East wall details of The Address Condos. Developed by Chestnut Hill Homes and designed by Quadrangle Architects, it was completed in 2012.
The building on the left is a luxurious hotel called "The Address". This is from where I took some of my Burj Dubai shots (see in the comment box below).
I wish I had composed this shot differently, with the hotel more towards the center, but that's the best vantage point I could get...
To create this composition, I shot the buildings at ISO 200 f/2.8 (1 to 13 sec bracketed shots, then digital blending). For the fountains, I really needed a fast shutter speed, so I used ISO 800, f/2.8 and was able to get 1/80 sec shutter speed. Then I did the final composite of the buildings and the fountains.

Taken this morning 40 minutes after sunrise. Already very hazy and hot, above 35 C. Thanks to my friend Jacques whom I had to wake up at dawn to let me in his apartment so I could get on the balcony! Hopefully from that same balcony I will be shooting the grand opening of the Burj Dubai on 9/9/9.
Digitally blended vertorama made of 3 portrait shots (11mm at f/8), then manually stitched horizontally.
The dark green color of the water is due to sand deposit at the bottom. You can see a lighter green patch where they started to clean it.

So my uncle took me to the 46th floor of the Address Hotel of Dubai which is a private under construction area with 360° view as he is having the permission of using the hotel's elevator.

Thanks to my wife who has friends currently staying on the 20th floor of the prestigious "The Address" hotel facing the Burj Dubai and its fountains. You can imagine my excitement taking shots from this vantage point!
Those same friends will still be there during the official opening of the Burj Dubai on 9/9/9. No need to tell you where I will be shooting that day!
Still not so much light from the Burj Dubai, you can see some details on the first floors though. Well, just a few months to wait!

This is the view from the observation deck on 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. You a a wonderful view on The Address Hotel.
The lake is the Dubai Fountain. The Dubai Fountain is a record-setting choreographed fountain system set on the 30-acre manmade Burj Khalifa Lake, at the center of the Downtown Dubai development in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was designed by WET Design, the California-based company responsible for the fountains at the Bellagio Hotel Lake in Las Vegas. Illuminated by 6,600 lights and 25 colored projectors, it is 275 m (902 ft) long and shoots water 240 feet into the air accompanied by a range of classical to contemporary Arabic and world music. It was built at a cost of AED 800 million (USD 218 million). The fountain is animated with performances set to light and music. It is visible from every point on the lake promenade and from many neighboring structures.
The bridge leads to Souk Al Bahar. Souk Al Bahar is an Arabesque shopping mall and entertainment destination located in the heart of the prestigious Downtown Dubai, on the Old Town Island. Souk Al Bahar features over 100 shops in an eclectic retail mix that includes 22 restaurants, cafés and lounges framing the souk’s extensive waterfront promenade. Souk Al Bahar (‘market of the sailor’) derives its name from both its traditional souk architecture of natural stone corridors, high archways and subdued lighting and its unique ‘sea-side’ location on an island in the Burj lake. The cultural theme flows throughout the mall, with boutique shops showcasing the Arabian heritage through a mix of authentic handicrafts, fashionwear, perfumes, carpets and furnishings.
The Address is a hotel with 600+ apartments and nearly 200 hotel rooms situated near the Burj Dubai development area.
I shot this image from the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa next door. I think it really puts the height of the Burj in perspective.
For example: The Address is the bright white building on the left. It's 63 floors, and almost 1,000 feet tall (991m). That building looks tiny compared to the incredible height this picture was taken from.
The Hancock Tower is only about 125 feet taller than 'The Address'.

The Address Downtown Dubai is een wolkenkrabber in Dubai, Verenigde Arabische Emiraten. De bouw begon in 2005 en werd in 2008 voltooid. Voordien werd het project Burj Dubai Lake Hotel & Serviced Apartments en The Address Downtown Burj Dubai genoemd.
Ontwerp
As I was saying in my previous post, the good weather (as in not scorching hot) is slowly coming to Dubai and with it comes the photo season. This weekend was looking really good, with nice blue skies, so I grabbed by camera and started searching for some new interesting locations to capture the continually growing skyline.
After a bit of smooth talking with some security guards I was allowed on the roof of one of the buildings in the Business Bay area with a perfect view of what looks like a huge roundabout built around the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and The Address Hotel. I was there from late afternoon until after dark so as you can imagine I will post quite a few shots from there in the coming weeks.
In terms of post-processing, this one was a bit complicated. My 12-24mm lens was not wide enough to get the top of the Burj Khalifa together with the curved road at the bottom. So I had to shoot 2 images and blend them later in Photoshop, matching the features of the building as well as the gradient of the sky. I’ve also used Topaz Adjust to enhance some of the details in the tower.
On another note, if you have been enjoying the blog over the last year, your vote in the Photoblogs Awards 2011 would be highly appreciated. Even if you don’t vote, you should have a look at the site as there are hundreds of really cool photoblogs from all around the world.

If you have visited my blog before, you’ll know that sometimes I speak about the difference between how you see a scene and how you can actually capture that scene with a camera. Although purists will probably argue with this, sometimes it’s just impossible to capture a scene just like you perceived it through your eyes. The reasons might be as varied as the camera’s ability to capture light in a certain way or differences in size and distance between subjects. This was exactly the case with the image below.
This weekend I met up with Daniel, a Dubai-based photographer that has a great eye for landscapes and who has some amazing shots from quite a few places around the world. Daniel and I have been wanting to shoot together for a while now and it was great to finally catch up.
We headed for Business Bay trying to get on a roof or two, which didn’t really work so we ended up at the end of the Dubai Creek extension looking for some nice skyline shots. As luck would have it, just as the sun was setting and the “blue hour” was beginning I noticed a beautiful new moon sitting just above the horizon.
Now, all of you who tried to photographed the moon alongside a city landscape will know that it’s a difficult thing to do as the moon will always look very small compared to everything else. Knowing that, I decided to shoot the landscape with my wide angle lens and the moon with my 70-300mm lens and to superimpose the two images. I’m quite happy with the result and to me it is a more accurate representation of the scene I witnessed. As always you can roll-over the image to see the original (straight from the camera) shot. What’s your opinion? Was it worth photographing the moon separately?
