you are the sun the moon the stars are you

and I could never run away from you

Daily Post #27

I need to get my mojo back...whatever that is and if I ever had any. Either that or take up the yoyo. I like the yoyo, but it always twists after a few tricks. The string I mean. Thank goodness its almost the weekend.

Florabella textures used.

When talking about photography texture refers to the visual quality of the surface of an object, revealed through variances in shape, tone and color depth. Texture brings life and vibrance to images that would otherwise appear flat and uninspiring.

Poem to a Sunflower

by Katherine R. Lane

I see you there in glory shining bright,

Following the sun and its path of light.

Standing tall above all others in the field,

You grow, conquer, and do not yield.

The little birds take great delight

In playing round you, from day to night.

With your petals of yellow and leaves of green

How very easily you are seen.

But there is more to you than first sight,

More than beauty and grander to delight.

Every beautiful aspect that appears,

Gives praise to the Father dear.

He made you a part of creation,

And you praise him in glorious celebration!

The beauty that within you is expressed,

Gives testimony to his greatness.

Sunflower, how I long to be like you!

Glorifying God in all I do.

Following the Son and His path of light,

To worship Him in His glory shining bright.

I can learn from you, my friend,

With every breath, praise to God, I might send.

With all of his creation telling the story,

Might I, with you, proclaim His glory.

The Graveyard Rabbit

In the white moonlight, where the willow waves,

He halfway gallops among the graves—

A tiny ghost in the gloom and gleam,

Content to dwell where the dead men dream,

But wary still!

For they plot him ill;

For the graveyard rabbit hath a charm

(May God defend us!) to shield from harm.

Over the shimmering slabs he goes—

Every grave in the dark he knows;

But his nest is hidden from human eye

Where headstones broken on old graves lie.

Wary still!

For they plot him ill;

For the graveyard rabbit, though sceptics scoff,

Charmeth the witch and the wizard off!

The black man creeps, when the night is dim,

Fearful, still, on the track of him;

Or fleetly follows the way he runs,

For he heals the hurts of the conjured ones.

Wary still!

For they plot him ill;

The soul’s bewitched that would find release,—

To the graveyard rabbit go for peace!

He holds their secret—he brings a boon

Where winds moan wild in the dark o’ the moon;

And gold shall glitter and love smile sweet

To whoever shall sever his furry feet!

Wary still!

For they plot him ill;

For the graveyard rabbit hath a charm

(May God defend us!) to shield from harm.

This weeks Macro Mondays theme is Texture.

My original ides was to take a very high magnification photo of one of the new security features of the latest US $100 bill design. The US is one of the most stable countries in the world economy, and therefore the US dollar is one of the most sought after, and trusted, forms of international currency. Current estimates suggest that two thirds of all US $100 bills are owned outside of the United States. Since it is so highly regarded, it is also the most targeted bill to forge.

In an attempt to thwart forgery, new security features have been added to the lager denominations of our paper money. These features are designed to assist in determining authenticity without the need for special tools. The security feature I was going to document is the raised printing on these new bills. If you move your finger up and down Benjamin Franklin’s shoulder on the left side of the new $100 bill, it will feel rough to the touch. This texture is a result of the enhanced intaglio printing process used to create the image. This texture is best felt using your fingernail.

After several attempts at depicting this texture, I found that one of the other security features is slightly more photogenic. The new design incorporates color shifting ink in several places on the new bill. This ink will change in appearance from copper to green in color, depending on the viewing angle. The change in color is the result of multi-layered metallic flakes added to the ink. When the bill is tilted, light reflects off these flakes at different wavelengths and changes colors. This is called color diffraction, which is also responsible for the color variations found on the wings of some butterflies.

This image is of one of the zeros in the 100 in the lower right on the front of the bill. In it, you can see multiple textures. The texture of the paper is very apparent. And most interestingly, the texture of the color shifting ink. Scale is important here. This image was captured at 5x magnification on a full frame sensor. This image has not been cropped. I think that the very fine printing in the background makes the image that much more interesting.

HMM.
