Off the wet room is the small but important "dye room". This has a stove top surface with an extraction hood overhead as well as a separate fume cupboard. The room also houses a large reverse osmosis water system which can be hooked up to the washer/dryer as needed. A lot of water is needed, and promptly, when cleaning large tapestries, carpets and kilims.

Construction about to begin for the first phase of the new Textile Heritage Park, located on ground that once held Central Park - a shared park that was used by the nearby mill communities for recreation. Most recently, the area was a parking lot for the Monaghan Mill before it closed and became the Lofts of Greenville residential community. Now it will become a place to remember and learn about Greenville's textile heritage, while serving as a recreation space for the community.
The rich heritage of Jaipur's art and crafts dates back to the times of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. When he was building the city in the eighteenth century, he invited artisans from different parts of the country to come and make this city their home. He made special arrangements for their work and stay here, which attracted many craftsmen to this Pink City. The high level of craftsmanship that existed during those days can still be found in the colorful shops of Jaipur.

Using paper and a process of mono printing and sewing I create textile pieces that inspired by my experience of the East Anglian landscape. Repetitive lines in my work express a synthesis of movement, the horizon and textural lines within the landscape.

Here is an example of textiles rolled and stored on a wheeled rack in the basement of the De Young. This is an example of the extraordinary dedication of the Tex Lab Volunteers. Over the years each textile has gained a custom "shroud" or cotton sateen cover, complete with digitally printed identification number and sewn-on cotton twill tape ties to secure it in place. These act as a protective barrier to both dust and light.
