Ferrari testarossa

A child's view of the "cheese grater" strakes of a Ferrari Testarossa.

Rouven built the Ferrari Testarossa and created a write up of the build, read about it below! 👇 Hello, everyone,

today I can finally present a model again, which I built up the last few days.

It is the Ferarri Testarossa, which is a MOC from "Loxlego".

When I first saw the model featured on Rebrickable, I fell in love instantly.

Unfortunately, I also had to realize at this point that the vehicle could not be built cheaply, so I rejected the wish to build the vehicle.

During my summer vacation, the model caught my attention again and I researched a little more intensively how I could get the parts I needed cheaply. Additionally, I went to the trouble of documenting all of my "loose" parts in Rebrickable so I could see what parts I already have needed. And there really weren't that few of them.

Ultimately, the vehicle consists of my own components that I already own and components that I ordered from Bricklink.

I got the stickers from "forwartsticker.com".

In total, I needed about 6-8 weeks to get all the parts.

Since I'm not a fan of different-colored pins, I got all the common pins and axles in red and black, so that the vehicle looks almost flawless when it's finished. I even got the gimbals in black.

The Loxlego instructions consist of a PDF with over 1200 photos that visualize each construction step quite well. I think there were two small bugs here, but they didn't pose any problems.

Many thanks also to Eugen Teledezki for the rims created according to my wishes. These look confusingly similar to the original rims and simply look great on the model.

I chose the CaDA tires because they simply have the nicest tire profile.

I built the vehicle without PowerFunctions, since the 1:8 models are known to be too heavy and only moderately agile.

Nevertheless, the model has some nice functions that can be performed manually with the help of gears. This includes, for example, opening the doors and trunk (front) and adjusting the seat backrests.

Finally, all I can say is that I had a lot of fun building it and I think it's one of the most beautiful 1:8 models. #ferrari #testarossa #lego #rc #toy #design

Built as a U.S.-specification example, this Testarossa was completed by Ferrari in November of 1987 and finished in Nero paintwork over a matching Nero interior. As evidenced by its original window sticker, the car was shipped from Maranello to Los Angeles and placed on a truck destined for Grand Prix Motors in Seattle, Washington. Its first owner was George Heiser of Seattle, and he took delivery of his new Ferrari on 14 March 1988.

Heiser retained his Testarossa until at least 1995, when it was purchased by Keith R Beneson of Kent, Washington. The car remained with him for nearly twenty years, travelling just 5,949 miles from new. Purchased by the current owner in 2015, the Testarossa was exported to the UK, where it has remained ever since.

In July of 2016, the car received an engine-out service, which included replacing the cambelts. Since then, the car has been driven less than fifty miles, and it remains in excellent condition inside and out. In addition to the aforementioned original window sticker, the car is offered with its original owner’s manuals (including the original service manual), toolkit, jack, and a six-piece Schedoni luggage set.

Made famous for its role in Miami Vice and Sega’s Out Run, the Testarossa was Ferraris leading supercar in the mid-eighties. Its distinctive side strakes and ultra-wide rear track inspired many other supercar designs and they became a symbol of 1980’s retrograde culture.

The Testarossa was a larger car that accommodated mid-mounted radiators. This helped reduce cockpit heat and also had the effect of making the car much wider at the rear. It also provided more space in the front trunk.

The Testarossa was powered by a 4.9-liter version of Ferrari’s Boxer-12 which was effectively a 180º V12. Producing 390 bhp, 0–60 miles per hour was typically clocked at 5.2 seconds.

Together with Robin Kiewiet I have recently visited Classicpark, which contains of a collection of several classic cars. Since I barely know anything about the 'real' classic cars, this Testarossa was one of the only cars I knew. And damn, what car it still is.

"There are fast cars and fast cars. None of them comes close to the 180mph Ferrari Testarossa: it is firmly in that top echelon of high performance cars for which perhaps only two or three rivals qualify. The Testarossa is so excitingly fast you can relive the moments of spine-tingling acceleration from the mere mention of the revered name." - Motor.

Ferrari's flagship model, the Testarossa supercar revived a famous name from the Italian company's past when it arrived in 1984. A 'next generation' Berlinetta Boxer, the Testarossa retained its predecessor's amidships-mounted, 5.0-litre, flat-12 engine, the latter now boasting a maximum power output raised to 380bhp at 6,300rpm courtesy of four-valve cylinder heads. Despite the power increase, smoothness and driveability were enhanced, the car possessing excellent top gear flexibility allied to a maximum speed of 180mph.

Rivalling Lamborghini's Countach for presence, the Pininfarina-designed Testarossa succeeded brilliantly, the gill slats feeding air to its side-mounted radiators being one of the modern era's most instantly recognisable – and copied - styling devices. A larger car than the 512BB - the increase in width being necessary to accommodate wider tyres - the Testarossa managed the trick of combining high downforce with a low coefficient of drag, its graceful body being notable for the absence of extraneous spoilers and other such devices. Despite the increase in size over the 512BB, the Testarossa was lighter than its predecessor, the body - its steel doors and roof excepted - being, somewhat unusually for a production Ferrari, of aluminium. Luxury touches in the well-equipped cabin included air conditioning, electrically adjustable seats, tilting steering wheel and plentiful leather. Unlike some of its rivals, the Testarossa possessed light controls and was relatively easy to drive, factors which, allied to its outstanding performance and stunning looks, contributed to an instant and sustained high level of demand.

Finished in classic Rosso Corsa, this example of Ferrari's epoch-defining supercar dates from 1988, by which time the early cars' controversial high single mirror (monospecchio), which gave good rearwards visibility but could obscure oncoming traffic, had been replaced by two conventional mirrors mounted lower down on the 'A' posts. The vendor advises us that the car is in pristine original condition having received a major service in 2019 that included replacing the timing belt, clutch, and tyres, so that it is in excellent driving condition. There can be few, if any, more original and better examples available. After opening the driver's door, you are surrounded by the subtle scent of the well-maintained and 'as new' beige leather interior, while the circa 16,500 kilometres driven so far have left no traces of wear either inside or out. Despite its supercar credentials, the Testarossa is a capable Grand Tourer, and this example comes complete with its original and untouched factory suitcase set (original price approximately 8,000 DM), making it the perfect companion for long weekend trips. This exceptional Testarossa wants only for a new owner eager to enjoy the unique sound and performance of its glorious 'flat 12' engine.

The Ferrari Testarossa is a 12-cylinder mid-engine sports car manufactured by Ferrari, which went into production in 1984 as the successor to the Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer. The Pininfarina-designed car was originally produced from 1984 to 1991, with two model revisions following the ending of Testarossa production and the introduction of the 512 TR and F512 M which were produced from 1992 to 1996. Almost 10,000 Testarossas, 512 TRs, and F512 Ms were produced, making it one of the most common Ferrari models, despite its high price and exotic design. In 1995, the F512 M retailed for $220,000. The word Testarossa is Italian for "fiery redhead".

The Testarossa is a two-door coupe with a fixed roof that premiered at the 1984 Paris Auto Show. All versions of the Testarossa had the power fed through the wheels from a rear-mounted, five-speed manual transmission. The Rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout (engine between the axles but behind the cabin) keeps the centre of gravity in the middle of the car, which increases stability and improves the car's cornering ability, and thus results in a standing weight distribution of 40% front: 60% rear. The original Testarossa was re-engineered for 1992 and released as the 512 TR, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, effectively as a completely new car, and an improved weight distribution of 41% front: 59% rear. The F512 M was introduced at the 1994 Paris Auto Show. The car dropped the TR initials and added the M which in Italian stood for modificata, or translated to modified, and was the final version of the Testarossa, and continued its predecessor's weight distribution improvement of 42% front: 58% rear. The F512 M was Ferrari's last mid-engine 12-cylinder car, apart from the F50 and Ferrari Enzo, featuring the company's last flat engine. The Testarossa was replaced in 1996 by the front-engined 550 Maranello coupe.

The vehicle should not be confused with the Ferrari TR "Testa Rossa" of the late 1950s and early 1960s, which were GT sports cars that ran in the World Sportscar Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
