Close up of a glass duck figurine that was sitting on one of the tables at my house. I shined a laser on it near the bottom to produce the red glow. My friend gave me the idea of making a Terminator reference in the title.
I've been playing paintball heavily for a long time and this is the craziest guy I've ever encountered. He played terminator (where he stays in the game until he calls himself out) againts 15 other guys. This basically amounted to getting wailed on by these 15 other guys. He was wearing a thicker coat and still you can see the result of his "rampage". I alone went through about 300 rounds on him before he called himself out. What some people will do...

Terminator arm. From the original 1984 movie. Saved from an explosion by someone working on the movie. Smart.
This time I got a much better view of the terminator, visible at high altitude after sunset.
The terminator is simply the line between night and day- on the Moon it is easy to see and is a pretty hard line because there is no atmosphere.
On Earth, you live through it every day- it's called dusk, light being diffused by the atmosphere. But up in space, Earth casts a shadow, starting at the terminator. If you go up high enough, it is visible. Here you can see the beginnings of the shadow Earth casts into space. And if the Moon is close enough to earth, it's the shadow that causes a lunar eclipse.
It was an exceptional evening on the way home, and the shadow was more visible than ever. And, I was lucky to have gotten an upgrade to first class, and I had my camera (the good one) right there with me! So, I took this 7-photo panorama. I had to manually stitch it- the features were too vague for the autostitch software to make use of.
Besides the obvious dark wedge of the shadow and the airplane wingtip for reference, I really like the subtle band of red along the top edge, where only redder light was being passed.
The shadow is also called the Umbra, and the diffuse edge is called the Penumbra.
