Amsy ♡

The line of trees on the left reminded me of an execution squad after shooting their victim.

Stealthy male Sharp-shinned Hawk hunting my feeder. Judging from the feather fragments tangled in his right talon and lump in his craw, it looks like he's enjoyed some success.

Rare winter visitor. Uncommon during the rest of the year. Smallest hawk. Most often seen during the fall season's southern migration.

The Terminator crashed my daughter's wedding reception.

Gotta love slow shutter speed, hand held shots of motion.

Walk the terminator... But be careful... You don't know what the Moon hides in its depths, beyond the shadows.

The future looks grim and the thought of giving up sounds liberating. But that is not for us the warriors. The stakes are high when fighting for a future. Sometimes we have to make sacrifices in order to progress.

We most terminate those bad thoughts that impede us to move forward.

I've had this done for months. I always forget to post them!

Market Street is an important thoroughfare in San Francisco, California. It begins at The Embarcadero in front of the Ferry Building at the northeastern edge of the city and runs southwest through downtown, passing the Civic Center and the Castro District, to the intersection with Corbett Avenue in the Twin Peaks neighborhood. Beyond this point, the roadway continues as Portola Drive into the southwestern quadrant of San Francisco. Portola Drive extends south to the intersection of St. Francis Boulevard and Sloat Boulevard, where it continues as Junipero Serra Boulevard.

Market Street is the boundary of two street grids. Streets on its southeast side are parallel or perpendicular to Market Street, while those on the northwest are nine degrees off from the cardinal directions.

Market Street is a major transit artery for the city of San Francisco, and has carried in turn horse-drawn streetcars, cable cars, electric streetcars, electric trolleybuses, and diesel buses. Today Muni's buses, trolleybuses, and heritage streetcars (on the F Market line) share the street, while below the street the two-level Market Street Subway carries Muni Metro and BART. While cable cars no longer operate on Market Street, the surviving cable car lines terminate to the side of the street at its intersections with California Street and Powell Street.

Construction

Market Street cuts across the city for three miles (5 km) from the waterfront to the hills of Twin Peaks. It was laid out originally by Jasper O'Farrell, a 26-year old trained civil engineer who emigrated to Yerba Buena, as the town was then known. The town was renamed San Francisco in 1847 after it was captured by Americans during the Mexican-American War. O'Farrell first repaired the original layout of the settlement around Portsmouth Square and then established Market Street as the widest street in town, 120 feet between property lines. (Van Ness now beats it with 125 feet.) It was described at the time as an arrow aimed straight at "Los Pechos de la Chola" (the Breasts of the Maiden), now called Twin Peaks. Writing in Forgotten Pioneers.

On All Saints' Day weekend 2024, the route between Rosenheim and Freilassing was completely closed due to construction work. Long-distance services were cancelled or rerouted over a wide area via Passau. The Meridian regional trains terminated in Rosenheim. Travellers were advised to take the route via Mühldorf. The Südostbayernbahn proved to be surprisingly flexible and deployed class 218 locomotives with double-decker coaches between Mühldorf and Salzburg instead of the scheduled class 628 multiple units in order to cope with the increased volume of passengers. This meant that locomotive-hauled passenger trains were used on this route again after a long time. At midday on 1 November 2024, the fog typical of the time of year lifted. So the opportunity was taken to photograph RB 27981 to Salzburg Hbf hauled by 218 463 near Salling.

The line that separates day and night is called the terminator. It is also referred to as the "grey line" and the "twilight zone." It is a fuzzy line due to our atmosphere bending sunlight. www.terryaldhizer.com

Not Arnold's Terminator! This is the term used for the line between the light and dark areas on the moon. This is heavily cropped, but shows a lot of detail.

The history of Gas Street Basin (sourced from Wikipedia)

The Birmingham Canal, completed in 1773, terminated at Old Wharf beyond Bridge Street. When the Worcester and Birmingham Company started their canal at a point later known as Gas Street Basin the Birmingham Canal Navigations Company (BCN) insisted on a physical barrier to prevent the Worcester and Birmingham Canal from benefiting from their water!

The Worcester Bar, a 7-foot-3-inch-wide (2.21 m) straight barrier 84 yards (77 m) long was built perpendicular to the run of the two canals. Cargoes had to be laboriously manhandled between boats on either side.

The Worcester and Birmingham Canal opened between Birmingham and Selly Oak on 30 October 1795 but took until 1815 to complete to Worcester, at which time, after much lobbying by iron and coal masters and the Worcester and Birmingham Canal Company, an Act of Parliament was passed to open up the bar and the bar lock was built. There were toll offices either side of the bar lock and tolls were collected by each company from boats using the canals.

The Worcester Bar still exists, with boats moored to both sides of it (where the boats are moored in this picture). It is connected to Gas Street via a footbridge reconstructed to a design by Horseley Ironworks of the 19th century (on the right side of the picture).

During the 1990s much of the area around the basin was redeveloped and older buildings refurbished.

No cutting and pasting, that was the actual dude. I actually had to lighten his face it was so dark. Only upped the detail and made the background monochrome. No adding of color.
