Ultramarine Terminator
I painted this Terminator (from the Space Marine Adventures: Rise of the Orks board game) as a member of the Ultramarines chapter part of a "March for Macragge" challenge. Macragge is the homeworld of the Ultramarines chapter of Space Marines so in March hobbyists are sometimes encouraged to paint some Ultramarines... Not that the Ultramarines really need the help, as they are one of the most commonly represented factions in Warhammer 40,000, and hence in wargaming as a whole.
My paint scheme for this Terminator was inspired by two Terminators shown off all the way back in issue 115 of White Dwarf, published in 1989. They were painted by Tim Prow using prototypes for the paints in the then forthcoming Space Marine Paint Set.
I in fact dusted off my 33+ year old copies of Marine Dark Blue and Ultramarine Blue for this Terminator, but the end result turned out a bit lighter and more vibrant than the fairly desaturated look Tim Prow achieved back in 1989. Still I like the less flamboyant overall look I achieved here, with mostly grey details, rather than the current standard for Ultramarines Terminators, which paints most of their trim (and their helmets) in white.
