the odd patch of grass is due to the removal of the old Damen viaduct, which leapt a mile+ over the stockyards. it, and the Ogden viaduct over Goose Island, never carried that much traffic and were abandoned, although they look really cool on old maps.

The Amtrak Late Shore and Capitol Limiteds of 8/19/2011 were cut short at Toledo due to a collision in Indiana. The passengers were bussed to Chicago and the trains were turned and serviced here.
