The waterfront terminal of the Central Rail Road of New Jersey. Built in 1889, it received passengers from the Jersey Central's services that extended to Atlantic City, Phillipsburg and Scranton, as well as long-distance trains of the Baltimore & Ohio from as far away as Chicago until 1957. In 1967 the struggling company agreed to state plans for the Aldene Connector which redirected trains onto the Pennsylvania Railroad's Main Line (now Amtrak's Northeast Corridor) and this terminal went dormant. It was badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy but re-opened to the public in 2016.
IC&E GP9 114 picks up three IAIS loads of scrap out of Iowa Interstate's Rock Island, IL yard on its way back to Nahant with the 910 (Nitrin) job. This is Terminal Junction which used to be a maze of diamonds, but now has half the track and is a maze of switches.

While exploring the park, I came across this mini peninsula in the harbour. As I went to take a photo of the Terminals across the bay, I noticed a family of Mute Swans that were resting themselves near the water. They were obviously used to people as I was able to get quite close to them.
This was taken in Harbour View Park in Collingwood, ON. The best place to start exploring this park and all of it's trails in right behind the Tim Horton's and McDonalds on Huron St.
The Georgian Trail passes through this park as well as beautiful Boardwalk trail that hugs the harbour, offering fantastic Georgian Bay views.

A view of the Trans-Bay Terminal with the skin being attached. I also noted that the large tubular supports were being painted a shiny white today. The Salesforce tower under construction can be seen on the right.
Chapter 22 (22.1) - Coasting
(We rejoin our Dharma Drunk heroes somewhere on #StatenIsland).
Marylou and I slip into a small dive a few blocks away from the ferry terminal and find seats at the elbow of the bar. She orders a ginger ale and I order a club soda. We're finally ready to come back up for air. We're ready to exit the wormhole clear and sober. The bar is near empty. Light falls through the window and we can each see the nightworn heaviness weighing on each others faces. She is the hungover cousin of Ingrid Bergman and I am the hangdog brother of Peter Lorre and we are teetotalling at a poor facimilie of Rick's bar from CASABLANCA. Although we await no papers of transit. There is no Sam to serenade us from his flatback piano. There is no music at all. Just the underscore of mindless drinking from the four men who flank us. They weren't supposed to end up here. This wasn't what was supposed to happen. There was supposed to be glory and glamor. Riches and dragons to slay. The hands of maidens to claim. There was supposed to be a world they would set alight, everyone praising their names. They weren't supposed to end up alone with their whiskies and soda here in the middle of the morning at a divebar somewhere at the edge of the universe. A single ferry line and a highway the only ways back to the rest of the city. None of us were supposed to end up here.
But here we are. Marooned like folk with no country.
Marylou picks up a coaster and slowly balances it on its edge atop the bar.
I watch her carefully balance the coaster on its edge for the next few minutes.
It stands on edge by its own accord for a fleeting second and then falls.
She picks up the coaster and slowly balances it on its edge again. I watch her for a few more minutes.
It stands on edge again by its own accord for a few brief seconds, and falls once again.
She picks up the coaster again and slowly works to balance it once more on its edge.

Between terminals at Chicago O'Hare, there is this walkway lit by neon lights in the ceiling.
And between the terminals of my trip back to Boise, I had a stopover at O'Hare.

This is a picture of the old Lackawanna railroad terminal in Hoboken, NJ. At one time, the Lacawanna terminal was a busy center of travel - being one of the only ways to get to certain parts of New Jersey easily from New York. Ferries also ran out of this terminal which complimented Hoboken's once great shipping businesses.
Now, all the shipping copmpanies are gone. The rail system is a small fraction of what it used to be; the ferry system is also half of what it once was. The terminal suffered and it is now an eyesore despite the great design and intricate detail lost on "modern" structures.
There is a revival of sorts, however, and the entire terminal, which now houses NJ Transit offices, is being refurbished; I think the idea is to bring small businesses and shopping back to the area.

Taken on Public Square in downtown Cleveland, I really liked how the Terminal Tower was reflecting in the glass entrance to the BP Building. I'm not sure which one I like better, the single reflection or the double one.
Front facade on Grand Central Terminal in New York City. The clock is the world's largest example of Tiffany glass.
Remake of this shot trying to minimize the harsh shadows by waiting for an overcast day.

Terminal Tower is a 52-story landmark skyscraper located on Public Square in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. It was built during the skyscraper boom of the 1920s and 1930s, and was the fourth-tallest building in the world when it was officially dedicated on June 28, 1930. On a clear day, visitors on the observation deck can see 30 miles from downtown Cleveland. Available for purchase at dalekincaid.com.
