had a big convo with my mechanic marcelino about this little plant. he's a mexican meditator and a tree hugger in a literal sense - says they give him energy. anyways, he took positive inspiration from this in that nature is so adaptable & perseverant like people are, but it made me wonder about the randomness of where you end up settling down. this plant obviously doesn't know what a damn bad idea it is to try to grow here... i wonder if i've chosen my ideal place to live.

Over the past two afternoons I have taken advantage of overcast afternoons to create a “plant hospital” in one of my garden beds for all the unfortunates who suffered badly while we were on our trip earlier this month, too far from the reach of our automatic sprinklers though I tried to move them closer.
This cantaloupe vine flower provided me with a glimmer of inspiration, for most of my “patients” are on life support or comatose, and reviving them may be a miracle.
Since the Festival’s inception, the Committee has focused on exposing the greater Delaware Valley to the beauty and culture of the various islands and creating an awareness of the great contributions people of the Caribbean have made, and are still making to the world, and to the Philadelphia and surrounding community. CFC is a central part of the Social and Cultural Committee of the Caribbean/American Association of Pennsylvania, Inc. (“CAP”), a non-stock corporation, incorporated in the State of Delaware.
The success of the Festival resulted from the efforts and tenacity of the formed “Caribbean Festival Committee.” CFC, which formerly comprised of representatives from participating islands of Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago, was later joined by St. Kitts and Grenada in 1992. In 1993, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands came aboard. Additionally, we now have Guyana, Panama, Bahamas and St. Lucia aboard, for an aggregate of thirteen (13) islands. Honorable citations were presented in 1991 and 1992 to the Committee, from the late State Representative David P. Richardson, in recognition of CFC’s hard work and achievement, and also commendations and notations from current Mayor, John F. Street, State Representative John White, State Senator Hardy Williams, Jr. and from the Honorable Edward G. Rendell, former Mayor of the City of Philadelphia and the current Governor of Pennsylvania, for CFC’s contribution to cultural awareness in Philadelphia.
