I wish I had more video of this talented dude in action. He was one of the featured dancers in a government produced Pongal celebration that we attended. Pongal is a celebratory festival for the harvest, where food is abundant and the hard work of the season is over. This guy was dancing and contorting and bending every which way while smiling and keeping that very large yoke spinning on his head. At one point he had folded his legs lotus style, rolling around in circles with that yoke bobbing around. Mad skills.

I'm doing some cleaning in my little Bedroom-studio and found this pieces...

I think that I've done a little bit of progress in my skills...
Christmas Town is blessed with many talented citizens including a lovely soprano, a wonderful sidewalk artist (take my word for it, when there is no snow, he is a veritable Bert the ChimneySweep) and a concert cellist with a fancy for Bach. Dan our sign painter, however, has never been numbered among the great talents of the town. This may be because, as he maintains, folks in Christmas Town don't see sign painting as an art, don't appreciate the effort, the design work, the devotion required to create a lovely storefront sign. Or it may be because, though store front signs can be expressions of artistic talent, Dan's are not. Or, and this is what I think is at the root of it, Dan is kind of a shitty sign painter. In any case, one of the town's soft-hearted liberals, the owner of the Wednesday-Thursday-Friday Store, commissioned Dan to paint a sign for her establishment. The WTF is a grocery store that stocks primarily completely prepared or "almost there" meals - those made up of chopped up things that only need assembly. These are essentials for any working person who comes home to the blank faces of children who want dinner right now and if you don't give it to them right now they will eat their weight in Doritos while you cook and then not touch dinner. So, by Wednesday easily and certainly Thursday and inevitably Friday, you have no idea what you're making for dinner so you stop in the W-T-F store and get your almost-there meal and run home and cook it in the sure and certain knowledge that you will have to eat most of it for lunch tomorrow. Brilliant, yes. Christmas Town residents take their pragmatism seriously. And so while it is a thriving business, and one I wish existed between my work place and home, the W-T-F also stands as evidence of the fact that Dan is not an artist, doesn't have any talent, doesn't deserve more respect than he gets and even in the case of an acronym, he cannot spell.
