Jan. 31 - A few years back, our high school library invited art and industrial tech students to hear a sculptor - welder give a career talk! The speaker brought wire and beads for the students to create. I marvel how a student made this intricate design in the 1/2 hour time allowed. Even after 4 years, I still have this sculpture given to me, the teacher librarian. I wonder if this super talented youth went on to an Art program or is in a related field. Hope so! I often enjoy studying the fine craftsmanship of this sculpture, marveling at the detail and wishing for success, today and tomorrow, for the student!
I see real value in teaching Arts within our schools...develops Supermen and Superwomen talent!

I've been tagged by Karin A, a very talented and sweet Flickr-friend :)
I guess I have to tell ten things about myself that you might not know...
1. I'm 34 years old and live in a 67 square meter flat in Oslo with my boyfriend.
2. I feel like a clown wearing dark or sharp coloured lipstick and I seldom wear it. But I love to do stupid and clownish things and I'm a bit childish :)
3. I love reading books and can spend the whole holiday reading. Unfortunately I haven't been able to finish the great book "Shantaram" which I started reading this summer...
4. I love shooting macro (But I guess you know that). It's time for me to learn more about other types of photography, for example portraits and of everyday life and people. I respect privacy (maybe too much) and therefore find it hard to shoot people.
5. I've had a bout 10 different haircuts and colours the last 20 years.
6. I love to travel and prefer to know where I'm going next before finnishing the current one. I work in a travel agency, but because I work with communication it doesn't mean that I get to travel :) Paris and France is my favourite destination in Europa and I love to travel by train. A small part of my heart will always belong to New Zealand. I studied Film & TV in Auckland 10 years ago and almost every weekend and holidays I travelled around that beautiful Island(s).
7. My education is a bit strange... Computer Science, graphic design, Cultural studies, PR, Film & TV...
8. I prefer tea before coffe. Because I'm not used to coffein, coffe is perfect when I need to stay awake. It's like drug and I get hyper :D
9. I use much time looking for my phone and other things. I'm creative and I do think creative people are a bit unstructured and messy :) Well, at least that's my excuse :)
10. I prefer thinking before talking and sometimes I get bored if people talk too much and especially too much about themselves or are very negative. But if you have an interesting and fun story, I love to listen and also come with some fun stories myself :)

This gorgeous hand carved detailed wooden egg shaped rosary box was made in Poland. The people of Poland make the most beautiful carved wooden items. I have several boxes from them and they are just as magnificent.
The silver rosary came with the egg box which I inherited this treasure from my beloved Grandmother.

David Mellor Visitor Centre
David Mellor is internationally famous for his cutlery, and his chic factory in Hathersage, designed by Sir Michael Hopkins and purpose-built on the site of the old gasworks, is hailed as a minor masterpiece of modern architecture.
Built in local gritstone with a spectacular lead roof, it blends beautifully into the rural landscape. The factory is open for viewing on weekdays and visitors are welcome to take a look around and watch the various designs being made. The process is surprisingly low-tech and most of it done by hand – if nothing else it explains why the cutlery is so expensive (and collectable).
David Mellor died in 2009, and his talented son Corin continues the design tradition at Hathersage.
There is also a stylish shop, a classy café and an interesting design museum.
Street Scene
One of David Mellor’s great aims as a designer was to improve the quality of the everyday urban environment.
His modern lighting columns, bus shelters, litter bins, post boxes, bollards and outdoor seating were widely distributed and altered the appearance of the street scene throughout the UK.
Abacus Bollards
1975
They are designed to be used singly or in clusters. These bollards are both highly functional and pleasingly sculptural in form.
Mellor’s collaboration with Abacus resulted in the first modern street furniture in post-war Britain. His designs were installed throughout the country.
