It looked pretty sad in the op shop, but this test shot shows how well it scrubbed up. Another Tak 50 saved from the bin and back on a camera where it belongs.
test sur Loki, du SMC takumar 50mm macro, très bon aussi pour le portrait; fermé d'un demi stop, donc à f4.8
Super-Takumar 50mm f1.4 eight elements is legendary and very fine lens. Somehow, I use it less than I would like to. I like the bokeh. It varies from smooth to wildly and swirly, depending on circumstances. Sharpness wide open is satisfactory. The probable reason I do not use it enough is that I do not like the colors. They are quite strong, clear and saturated in all luminosities. particularly in highlights. It reminds me of american color films suburbia from 60ties. Or like painting done with pure colors out of tube. But, that is very subjective. Someone will like exactly that. It is a different kind of vintage look, the one I am less used to.
With a Takumar 58mm f2.4. HMBT!
Bonzo Din suggested I convert my previously posted colour image of this scene to black and white, using a sepia tone. I used a "Dark Sepia" filter on Nik, but it doesn't really show a lot of sepia. When I sent the image to Bonzo Din, he liked the results, so here it is.
lens test avec un cadeau de mon ami @alcosinus, un beau vintage Takumar 135mm F/3.5. Merci, Alain, pour ce cadeau !!

A fungi growing near our house on an old stump. We found it looking for the source of the dead rat smell - and this was it! Apparently toxic, which is no surprise - just smelling it is nearly fatal.
Taken with the Tak 55/1.8 @ f/8, extended.
With a Takumar 100mm f2
Many thanks to everyone viewing, fav'ing and commenting on this photo. It's great that such a very rare lens (only a few hundred were ever made) is getting a wider audience!
With a Takumar 58mm f2.4. This is a Heliar design lens. The Takumar 58mm f2, introduced the same year (1957), had a Sonnar design.
I've just posted a review on YouTube comparing the Takumar 58mm f2 with the Takumar 58mm f2.4. It's here if you're interested:
1st April 2015 was a glorious sunny day. I took my Auto-Takumar 35mm f2.3 out and captured these lovely magnolias.
The whole folder from the day contains some of my favourite images from this lens - and I vividly remember taking the photos. So I thought I'd go back and have another go at processing a few more images, and post this one today!
