Vancouver, BC – Staff and volunteers at the Vancouver Aquarium are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Tag, a 15 year-old male Steller sea lion.
Tag was diagnosed with oral cancer last winter and was in treatment until his death in the early hours of this morning.
Prior to his diagnosis, Tag had a 10 year history of oral and dental problems, including several procedures to remove diseased teeth. A procedure last February for removal of abnormal tissue and teeth allowed a biopsy to be performed which indicated cancer.
During the spring Tag began chemotherapy and laser surgery. In addition, he was treated with new anti-inflammatory and gastric medications intended to make him much more comfortable. The level of expertise, professional resources and treatment Tag received reflected the Vancouver Aquarium’s commitment to the highest standards of animal health care.
“Experts from around the world helped us to develop a very sophisticated treatment plan aimed at ensuring that Tag would have the best quality of life possible for his remaining months with us.” said Dr. Martin Haulena, Vancouver Aquarium Staff Veterinarian.
Animal care staff observed abnormal bleeding in Tag’s mouth. Dr. Haulena decided to anaesthetize Tag last evening to further examine his mouth and to perform surgery in the Aquarium’s veterinary hospital facilities. The surgery revealed major problems in the mouth caused by a highly invasive and progressive carcinoma. Despite the medical team’s best efforts Tag failed to fully recover from the procedure and passed away shortly before 2am.
“I am very proud of our animal husbandry and veterinary teams that worked selflessly over the last few weeks. Tag was truly one of the most unique marine mammals that any of us have had the pleasure to work with. He will always be remembered for his noble heart, playful character, and gentle soul. He allowed us incredible insight into the world of Steller sea lions.” said Clint Wright, Vancouver Aquarium, Senior Vice President, Operation & and Planning.
Tag first arrived at the Aquarium as a two-week-old pup in 1993 as part of an original group of Steller sea lions participating in studies conducted by UBC Marine Mammal Research Unit researchers who are part of the North Pacific Universities Marine Mammal Research Consortium. Since 1980, more than 80% of the world Steller population has disappeared, leaving fewer than 75,000 individuals. Tag participated in comprehensive studies, the first of their kind, designed to explore the hypotheses that are thought to explain the population decline. The studies have provided hugely valuable information that is otherwise unobtainable from wild animals.

8. I once fell out of a three story building window into some bushes.

Thanks for tagging us, Agilestandard! Looks like we caught Roux babysitting one of his two litter mates. Let's see what he's got to share with us...
1. My name is Roux (roo) and my mom named me after clarified butter. At first I was a little uncomfortable with being named after a food component, but after all of the Food Network we watch together, I've come to enjoy my strange name!
2. I am a big 21 months old and stand a tall 24". So I'm short.. But I am one big Casanova!
3. Speaking of which.. I have a girlfriend! Her name is Layla and she is 75% poodle and 25% labrador. When we go out people always think she's the male and I'm the female... I'm okay with that. Though we may never have a litter, our love shall endure!
4. Pictured with me is one of my favorite litter mates, Olivia. She is older than I am by 12 months, but she's still smaller than I! Her twin sister Ava likes to wrestle with me. Just as they've helped me bond with humans, I've helped them become more comfortable with large dogs like me! I love them soooo much!
5. It's so hot here in Oklahoma... Mom keeps us inside during the day to play with my favorite toy (the racquet ball!!!) and then we enjoy runs in the evening. My mom is a good runner, but I can easily go further and faster than she (don't tell her I said that!)
6. I live with a black kitty named Luna. She is also older than I am, but still so much smaller! I am careful when I play with her, and let her rub up against me when she wants attention.
7. When mom got me at seven months I was scared of strange people coming and touching me. However, with lots of walks and playtime with strangers I've come to enjoy new people! I'm still timid of most men, though...
8. I know some tricks! I know heel, sit, stay, down, paw, sit pretty, go potty, come here, go to bed, crawl, back, leave it, and drop it! Speak is my newest trick, and I'm still not really sure what she wants me to do when she says it, but I'm learning.
9. I loooove squirrels and birds! Used to, when we would go running, I would veer off to chase them, but mom told me to stay with her, and now I only chase them when I'm unleashed.
10. I love my Flickr friends and hope to meet you all someday!

1. Photography is more a kind of nice disease for me than a hobby! I'am almost always busy with photography
2. I still live with my parents, but before my parents, they are my first friends

I was tagged by Foxy Belle. I got out my action figures for this one. Two guys talking and having a soda on the sidewalk next to the park while another man is out running carrying a water bottle.
I got these men at a toy show a few years ago. I got the 2 outfits on the right there, too. Love those outfits with the tiny buttons, pockets and details.

1) This is the most recent picture of me. I'm trying to look shy with a cup but failing miserably.
2) I have an intense phobia of moths and butterflies.

4) I went to university in Stirling (Scotland). Four of the best years of my life!
5) Currently saving to travel as I can't settle down until I get it out of my system

A little bit of me
1. I love heights, being at places high up. Mountain tops, towers, towers on mountaintops. I love looking at the horizon 360 degrees around. Love to feel the wind and hear its sound.
2. I like standing at seashores, my feet in the water, and stare at the sea for long.
3. Love traveling, want to see every corner of India, and visit all the countries of the world. Like the kind of travel where you wander on foot, meet the locals and listen to their stories about the place.
4. I’m passionate about trekking. Done a lot of forts/forests around my city, done a circuit trek in Uttaranchal, close to the Himalayas. Got a lot more of it to do.
5. Got a great wish to be aboard an aircraft carrier and fly in a Sukhoi. Drive/ ride full speed on Volkswagen's test track.
6. Played a lot of sports in school. Did swimming, basketball, tennis, martial arts. If I had to take up a sport again, it would be tennis.
7. I make miniatures/models, like to explore different materials for making them. Crazy bout stationery. I like traditional toys as well.
8. I often express myself through post-its. Ideas, expressions, thoughts, musings, stress, joy. It all gets penned down as words or drawings.
9. Like reading, tend to read more non-fiction. As a kid, started on encyclopaedias before Enid Blytons
10. Love food, different cuisines. Of the stuff I cook, I think ‘chocolate fudge cake’ is the star.
11. Love music, different genres. Want to learn the piano and the guitar. The last time I sang was in school, for choir. Now, I sometimes sing when I’m riding my bike, alone, happy, head in helmet. No, I don’t sing in the shower.
12. ‘My bike’ in the previous point refers to a no-gears scooterette. Have had it for several years now and is one of my best friends (wanna ride an Enfield one day)
13. I, quite literally, sleep with the camera next to my bed- my 9th floor house faces east and offers an (almost) unobstructed view of sunrise. Although, I don’t necessarily rise before the sun does.
14. Someday I’d like to touch a tiger, stroke its fur. I’d also like to hold a chameleon or a snake in my hand. (I’d prefer the non-venomous kinds though :-P )
15. Childhood dream was to be an astronomer. I’ve never been on a star gazing trip and would really want to go on one. Also want to own a telescope.
16. Some things I’d like to learn/do: hang gliding, mountaineering, horse riding, scrap metal sculpture, stop motion animation, scuba diving (picked few at random, there’s lots)
Right whale Catalog #2040, a 24-year-old female, was sighted five miles off Fernandina Beach, FL on February 10, 2014. Researchers from Duke University attached a small white suction cup-mounted tag to her back. The tag will stay attached for less than 24 hours, and will collect a wealth of information on her behavior and movements.

This is a Christmas Tag using one of the few wine-labels I still have left! Still have some for sale on Etsy if anyone is interested. I used the dove from the Swirl Christmas acrylic set after sponging with Tea Dye ink and stamping some holly and snowflakes. These make nice little gifts for Christmas and are quicker to make than a Christmas card! I am going to make some more in green and red. Added some string so that the recipient can hang it up.

11. szeretem a zenét, koncerteket... Ray Charlestól kezdve, a Beatlesen át a, Fatboy Slimen keresztül, a Quimbyig minden jöhet:D csak ne elektronikus gépzaj legyen.. najó prodigy, meg daft punk néha elmegy =)
12. szeretem az erős kontrasztot az életben is, nem csak a képeken:) ugyanakkor a harmóniánál nincsen jobb...
13. szeretnék egy 10-20-as sigmát.. szívesen fogadok HSM motoros, nikon bajonettes adományokat belőle:D

Photographer Mario Testino takes photos of famous people in towels for his "Towel Series". Let's do the same with dolls! We won't limit this to famous dolls, so the subject can be any doll you like a lot.

Thank you! =) Now, let me get down to business.
1 - Im 14 years of age, and not very creative when coming up with random facts about myself, so i pray, that i do not bore you all. =)
2 - I aspire to be a Psychologist and a Photographer living in Australia when i grow up.
3 - Im not the neatest person in the world, but i can most always find what i need when i need it.
4 - Monty Python amuses me much, and i have seen Holy Grail probably a thousand times. <3
5 - My boyfriend is two bands [ possibly a third ] oh, and i love him. I know that probably might be hard to believe, considering hes 16 and im 14, and love is unreal supposedly when it comes to young people, but i dont believe that. I think that any love, as long as its true is love. =) Seesh, im sappy.
6 - Im an anime addict, anime and manga. =) Bleach and Clannad are my favorites.
7 - I want to travel the world some day.
8 - My father [ rest his soul <3 ] was a photographer, and i believe that genetically he passed that down to me.
9 - Im a Christian. <3
10 - Im very quiet in school, while when im with my friends im very loud. =)
11 - I want to model. Editorial modeling, not commercial. =)
12 - My father died when i was 12.
13 - Me and my mother are practically sisters, i love her to death no matter what.
14 - I used to be REALLY into following the crowd, now i repel anything that gos along with anything hip or trendy.
15 - The Killers, Coldplay, and MCR keep me alive [ Music wise =) ]
16 - I have oodles of old camera stuff.
17 - I see a therapist, and i enjoy therapy. =)
18 - Rachel Devine inspires me often with her photography, and makes me never regret wanting to move to Australia.
19 - Ive been on Flickr before. It was when i first got my camera, and i wasnt very good [ still not too good. ] But i left because of a weirdo person that was being, well weird.
20 - I have owned a pair of converse for 2 years, they are falling apart but i still wear them almost every day.
21 - I have a shoe problem, im honestly addicted.
22 - I love designer clothing, and clothes in general. =)
23 - I adore Picknik, and Photoshop confuses me often. =)
24 - I will soon be 15. =)
25 - This wasn't too hard after all. =)
