"We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures."

Thornton Wilder

Last week, after Lucy's back had flared again creating more paralysis, I thought a trip to the community gardens (...her favorite place to walk) might, on some level, inspire her healing. So I wrapped her up in her fleece blanket and carried her as we wandered through the gardens.

We watched the bluebirds and robins to see if we could find their new nests and stopped to talk with the gardeners we knew from past years who were there, eager to begin to work their plots. And when we stopped to photograph fences, she sat quietly watching.

As it turned out it was Lucy's last trip to the gardens. But I love knowing the we got to see them together one last time.

Happy Fence Friday, my friends, it's a good day to remember our treasures. :)

There were days I couldn't weep

Nights I couldn't sleep

And ev'ry thing I did just turned out wrong

Till there was you to dry my tears

Whisper love-words in my ears and this is why

I'm glad you came along.

Now there's a smile to cheer me up when I'm lonely

That I can call whenever I'm feeling down.

Smile

And you know that I'm only

Longing for the minute you'll be around.

Help me 'cause I'm trying to get over

The way I thought of love many times before

If ever you should go away and nobody else would be near.

There's always a smile to remember that you were here.

If I could fly I flew away to a bright blue summer-day

Tryin' to share my love with you for evermore.

Darling you made my life complete

You're ev'ry thing I need

I'll never be

The same I was before.

Treasure Tree - Since I started working in the environmental field, I've started learning a lot about native trees and plants in California on the job. What I didn't realize, is just how much this would impact my wildlife photography.

Now that my tree identification skills are significantly better, I'm able to identify candidate trees and habitat for certain species much more easily. My favorite tree species in California has quickly become the Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia). This particular specimen is likely well over 100 years old and an absolute behemoth! When I captured this image of the screech owls, my goal was to capture some of the beauty and scale of the tree as well as a pleasing background.

Environmental shots are something that I tend to neglect but they really can pay off, and I was extremely pleased with the results here.

My mum used to work for Matchbox 'back in the day' and every friday she would bring me a new diecast car home. I was a bit spoilt to be honest!

Winnie The Pooh. First published in 1926, this edition was printed in 1927. Infinitely loved by all three of us children, and read out loud to us at bedtime by our dad .... with many pauses to look at the illustrations by E H Shepard and to laugh at (and with) Pooh. Some of the best memories of my early childhood lie between these covers! And joy of joys .... Pooh couldn't spell either ... which comforted me in the days before dyslexia was known!!

What treasures are the crowd hunting for? When you see a crowd of people gathering and swiping on their smart phones, most likely you can think they are hunting the treasures of Pokémon.
