A beautiful statue of Amitabha Buddha sitting on a Lotus Base, handmade from copper alloy and 24 K gold with gold paint on his face.
His hands are in Samadhi mudra holding a vessel in his hands containing the nectar of immortality.
Long ago, Amitabha was a king who renounced his kingdom to become a monk. Called Dharmakara Bodhisattva, the monk practiced diligently for five eons and realized enlightenment and became a buddha.
Amitabha in Sanskrit literally means boundless light, boundless happiness and boundless life. Amitabha, who is also called Amita or Amida Buddha, is one of the most ancient dhayani buddhas. Amitabha presides over a celestial paradise called Sukhavati, or "realm of bliss," also called the Pure Land, which in Buddhism is understood to be a state of consciousness. Those reborn in the Pure Land experience the joy of hearing Amitabha teach the dharma until they are ready to enter Nirvana. This is the Land of Amitabha Buddha, the world of utmost joy without suffering. With the spiritual power of Amitabha Buddha, all beings in this world will understand Buddhism easily and practice diligently, and attain enlightenment eventually. Therefore by reciting Amitabha Buddha's name, Buddhist followers hope that they will be born in this Pure Land after their lives on earth. They even worship at times holding a patra on the same posture. Amitabha is one of the most popular and well-known Buddha.
In particular, devotion to Amitabha is at the center of Pure Land Buddhism, one of the largest schools of Mahayana Buddhism in Asia. According to the Mahayana scriptures, Amitabha possesses infinite merits resulting from good deeds over countless past lives as a bodhisattva named Dharmakara. Amitabha is translatable as ‘Infinite Light,’ hence Amitabha is often called ‘The Buddha of Infinite Light.’
Amitabha, the Buddha of Boundless Light, embodies the energy of compassion that flows out into the universe.
Amitabha symbolizes mercy and wisdom. He is associated with the third skandha, that of perception. Tantric meditation on Amitabha is an antidote to desire. He is sometimes pictured in between the bodhisattvas Avalokiteshvara and Mahasthamaprapta.
Depicted in the mudra or gesture of meditation, he holds a begging bowl, a symbol of infinite openness and receptiveness or a vessel containing the nectar of immortality.
Amitabha is the fourth and most ancient of the five Transcendental Buddhas that embody the five primordial wisdoms meditation. He presides over the Buddha realm Sukavati (Tibetan: Dewachen), a Pure Land that is the expression of his own field of pure expression and nothing else. Amitaba is the Lord of the Padma or Lotus family and is the pure expression of the wisdom of discriminating awareness, which transmutes the poison of attachment and desire. He and the other Lotus family members support the gradual unfolding of one's spiritual petals into enlightenment. Amitaba is red in color, sits in the full-lotus posture with his two hands resting on his lap in the MUDRA of meditative equipoise. He is most often depicted in thankas flanked by two eminent bodhisattvas, Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and Vajrapani, the Bodhisattva of Power. It is the special vow of Amitaba that to benefit beings that are caught in the realm of their own confusion and suffering that if they remember his name with faith at the time of their death they will take rebirth in Sukavati. Through this they will achieve enlightenment and not again fall into a realm of suffering. This is due to the power of the merit of Buddha Amitaba's virtuous activities accumulated throughout his countless lives as a bodhisattva. Because of this, meditation upon Amitaba is widespread and very popular. He is the particular focus of the faith of the Pure land Schools of Buddhism and of the meditative training of Powas or Transference of Consciousness that enables one to transfer their consciousness into the field of pure perception of Sukhavati, the Realm of Great Bliss at the time of their death. In some mandalas, Amitaba is depicted in union with his Wisdom Consort Gokarmo, who embodies the pure element of fire.
Birth of the mysterious Alchemical Sentinels
3 months working day and night with an exceptional “dream team"… a big thank you to ACS, Luc, my trusty Giant who could lift a juggernaut onto a balcony (QED Thierry Loir) Thomas Cart'1, Goin, and of course Marc for the paints.
I have managed to set up my installation of 99 raw steel sculptures with an incredibly demanding specification: none of the 3600 work on the DDC site were to be hidden… we had to think about power sources, water crossings, access for construction machinery including the telescopic booms (3m wide)… public safety, ERP museum standards, etc, ... constantly alternating between the visible and the invisible...
Are they inhabited? I don’t know. One thing is certain: each sentinel stands as a unique sculpture in terms of its alchemical elements and paintwork (either with anti-rust paint or voluntarily with paints that do not resist rust). This autumn, each sentinel will reveal – with the acid rain – different interpretations, depending on the paints and solvents used, making each one different, with stratifications that future archaeologists will decipher.
But my most perilous challenge was to create a giant (9000 m²) installation that envelops the Abode of Chaos with dozens of tons of steel, so that my visitors, from any angle, enter a dreamlike fantasy and where the world of the Abode of Chaos on the one hand and that of the 99 monumental sculptures (named "Alchemical Sentinels" during an extremely busy night ) intersect like the Inframince defined by Marcel Duchamp (or, how to build intensities by subtraction).
These 99 Alchemical Sentinels are now the guardians of the Sanctuary that the Abode of Chaos has become. I designed them as veritable quantum energy wells that we placed with patience and wisdom at different spots all over the Abode of Chaos.
There are 99 in total, made of 10mm rough steel (50 tons), welded to form perfect equilateral triangles. Each of the three sides constituting an Alchemical Sentinel is itself cut to reveal a meurtrière, again in the shape of an equilateral triangle, presenting a superb Euclidean geometry to the visitor.
These 99 Alchemical Sentinels are each placed at specific energy points on the 9000 m² of the Abode of Chaos. Some are hidden by vegetation or natural landforms or are placed in relation to existing works. Others are located in our private and professionals spaces.
In my alchemical work that began on 9 December 1999, the three gates arranged in an equilateral triangle with one vertex pointing upwards, form the luminous delta. They represent the three elements that alchemists work with. These three elements are sulphur, mercury and salt.
Note that the three elements found in the Prima Materia (or Alchemical Chaos) are very closely related. The point triangle is also the symbol of the fire philosophers.
The equilateral triangle resting on its base – like the three points – is the symbol of the fire element, one of the four elements that the alchemist works with in the laboratory.
The geometric properties of the equilateral triangle evoke absolute perfection by their spiritual strength and their age-old symbolism going back to ancient Egypt… strength, beauty and harmony.
They will remain for a thousand years as witnesses to a civilization lost through the folly of men.

St Andrew, Colney, Norfolk
I passed this church for years before I ever went inside. It sits within the urban area of Norwich, on the busy Earlham Road just before it disgorges its heavy load of traffic onto the A47, and I have always thought it rather a poor, beleaguered thing. It was only when I cycled from Bowthorpe, that most maligned of Norwich suburbs, and turned off the road into a little lane with cottages and the beautiful church in its graveyard, that I got a sense that Colney really was once a little village. Indeed, a map inside the church shows that the greater part of the parish is south of the Earlham Road, and is still intensely rural today.
This is one of half a dozen or so round-towered churches in the urban area of Norwich, and unless you are viewing it from the main road it has the most successfully rural setting of any of them. The churchyard is a narrow one, and it is easy to forget that, until a few years ago, the route of the main road ran alongside the churchyard wall, and heavy traffic thundered past within a few metres of the church.
A reminder of the traffic that once passed so close, and probably the best-known feature of St Andrew, is the headstone to John Fox recut and reset above the south porch entrance. It reads Sacred to the memory of John Fox who on the 20th December 1806 in the 79th year of his age was unfortunately killed near this spot having been thrust down and trampled on by the horses of a wagon. READER if thou drivest a team be careful and endanger not the life of another or thine own. The tower above is heavily restored, but there are double-splayed window holes, and there are also carstone quoins below in the west wall of the nave, both suggestive that this dates back to Saxon times. Otherwise, the church is generally 14th Century in character, albeit with the crispness of its 19th Century restoration.
You step into a church which feels entirely Victorian, although very much with a fitting sense of its rural past. The great treasure of the church is the late medieval font. It is an exotic species - I do not think there is another like it in East Anglia. It features the signs of the four Evangelists carved characterfully, the winged lion, bull and eagle taking off with their scrolls in their mouths, the angel of St Matthew holding his in front of him. Facing east is a very good Crucifixion scene, but the most extraordinary panel is that which faces west. It shows a hooded figure kneeling, a donor perhaps, next to what appears to be a man tied to a post with arrows sticking out of his body. Now, this being East Anglia, your first instinct might be that it is intended to represent St Edmund, but the imagery is so close to that of St Sebastian that I think that is who it is meant to be. And, given that this is such an unusual font, it raises the suggestion that this font did not come from Colney originally, and possibly not even from elsewhere in East Anglia.
Norwich has contributed more than its fair share of familiar 18th and 19th century family business names, and perhaps the most prominent in the modern age is that of the Barclay banking family of Colney Hall. This was their parish church, and when Evelyn Louisa Barclay died at the age of 37 in 1899, the windows in the chancel by Edward Frampton were placed in her honour. They are worth more than a glance, because they feature Mrs Barclay and her eight children. The most charming window shows her at her reading desk, a baby on her lap and an infant on the floor, the six older Barclay children standing and listening attentively. They are in the height of late Victorian gravitas before it transmuted into the triumphalism of the years before and after the First World War. The oldest boy, Terence, standing in blue, met a tragic and curious end, for in 1911, when he was 29, he was mauled and killed by a lion kept in the menagerie at Colney Hall. His little brother David, the infant sitting at his mother's feet, died just five years later, mortally wounded on the Western Front during the First World War. Both of them are buried in the churchyard.
In the decades immediately before the Reformation, there was a great flowering in East Anglia of brasses for Priests, and there is one here, to Henry Alikok, who was Rector, and died in 1502. It is a chalice brass, depicting a chalice and host, to denote that the commemorated person was a Priest. It sits on the edge of a great expanse of orange tiles, which appear to have been painted. I assume that they are actually late Victorian, perhaps contemporary with the Barclay windows, and I couldn't help wondering what had been obscured.
A memorial to William Scott is a reminder of the days of the Raj. He was a Cornet of the Bengal Light Infantry, and he died at Jullunder in India in the year before the Indian Mutiny. He was 23 years old. The inscription quotes Genesis, Shall not the God of all the Earth do right, which must have been small comfort to his parents, I think. Outside in the graveyard is another memory of an Eastern tragedy, this time a modern one, in the form of a memorial to a local woman who died in the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004.
Here, it is hard to blot out the traffic on the busy road, or the vision of Bowthorpe across the fields. But two jays were obviously quite happy with the way things were. In recent years, these beautiful birds have followed their cousins the magpies into the cities. From being shy birds, they are becoming rather fearless. These two hopped from the churchyard wall onto the top of two adjacent 19th Century headstones, watching me with interest, dipping and tilting their tails slightly to find a balance. The sun came out, and their vivid buff and sapphire dress was jewel-like in this green of late spring. The tufts on their heads made their sharp eyes quizzical. It made a perfect photograph. But, of course, as soon as I lifted my camera, they launched themselves into the air, and were gone.

Transmutation by John Glew at the 2014 Doddington Hall Sculpture Exhibition
Doddington Hall is a grade I listed Elizabethan mansion complete with walled courtyards and a gabled gatehouse. In Doddington, North Kesteven, Lincolnshire.
It was built between 1593 and 1600 by Robert Smythson for Thomas Tailor, who was the registrar to the Bishop of Lincoln. In the 12th century the manor of Doddington was owned by the Pigot family who sold it to Sir Thomas Burgh in 1450, and eventually to John Savile of Howley Hall in Leeds. In 1593, he sold the manor house to Thomas Tailor who commissioned the present house. It was inherited by his son, and then his granddaughter Elizabeth Anton who married Sir Edward Hussey of Honington in Lincolnshire. Their son Sir Thomas Hussey inherited in 1658. Sir Thomas's three daughters were his co-heiresses when he died in 1706. Mrs Sarah Apreece was the surviving heiress and on her death in 1749, her daughter Rhoda, wife of Captain Francis Blake Delaval of Seaton Delaval Hall in Northumberland, inherited. It then passed to her second son, Sir John Hussey-Delaval, and he had improvements made to the Hall in 1761 by Thomas and William Lumby of Lincoln. John's younger brother Edward inherited in 1808, and his daughter, Mrs Sarah Gunman, who inherited on her father's death in 1814, left the Hall to Lieutenant Colonel George Jarvis in 1829. On his death it passed to his cousin the Rev Robert Eden Cole, and it remains in private ownership today. In the mid 20th century the Hall was restored by Laurence Bond and Francis Johnston.
The Hall's contents, including textiles, ceramics, porcelain, furniture and pictures, reflect 400 years of unbroken family occupation. It is surrounded by 6 acres (24,000 m2) of walled and wild gardens with flowering from early spring until autumn.
The Hall and Gardens are open to the public, with facilities for private tours and school visits. A temple designed by Anthony Jarvis in 1973 stands in the gardens. Summer concerts and occasional exhibitions are held in the Long Gallery. Other businesses have been developed on the estate such as the sale of Christmas trees, weddings and a farm shop selling local produce.

Needes she another Monument of Stone,
Who had so many better than this one,
All which were with noble hearts, whom her decease
Transmuted into marble Niobes:
Each Tombe was arch'd about with weepeing eyes
Whom sorowes blasts did likewise cristalize:
True Pietye, Vertue, Love, and honour'd blood,
On both sides as Corinthian columnes stood:
Three Children Angells were which did disperse
Youth, Beautye, Wealth, like flowers on each hearse:
A foliage of humane fraile estate,
The basiment of the worke did variate:
But Glory, like a Pyramid above,
The Fabricke crown'd, & reach'd y Court of love.
This lady's prayers was interrupted by the lion dance company during the commencement ceremony.
During the event, many believers pay respect to the Gods, their ancestors and pray for well being. While some passed this tradition to the younger generations, it is a rare scene to have younger people attending the praying events.

The Ghost Festival, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, or Yu Lan is a traditional Chinese festival and holiday celebrated by Chinese in many countries. In the Chinese calendar (a lunisolar calendar), the Ghost Festival is on the 15th night of the seventh month (14th in southern China).
In Chinese tradition, the fifteenth day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar is called Ghost Day and the seventh month in general is regarded as the Ghost Month (鬼月), in which ghosts and spirits, including those of the deceased ancestors, come out from the lower realm.
Distinct from both the Qingming Festival (in spring) and Chung Yeung Festival (in autumn) in which living descendants pay homage to their deceased ancestors, on Ghost Day, the deceased are believed to visit the living.
On the fifteenth day the realms of Heaven and Hell and the realm of the living are open and both Taoists and Buddhists would perform rituals to transmute and absolve the sufferings of the deceased. Intrinsic to the Ghost Month is ancestor worship, where traditionally the filial piety of descendants extends to their ancestors even after their deaths.
Activities during the month would include preparing ritualistic food offerings, burning incense, and burning joss paper, a papier-mâché form of material items such as clothes, gold and other fine goods for the visiting spirits of the ancestors

We went to a special Friends-of-Yorkshire-Sculpture-Park event this evening, an exclusive viewing of the final stage of a research and development project "Hot Heads" by pa-Boom (www.pa-boom.com).
The project was designed to create, build and test a series of large scale sculptural human head braziers/fire sculptures, and tonight was the first public lighting of them.
They reminded me very much of the work of Juame Plensa (who so far has been my favourite exhibition at the sculpture park).
Armed with a complementary hot chocolate and slice of parkin, we headed over to the burn site, where the 3 large heads were duely set alight- there's something very beautiful about fire, and it was interesting to see how they came alive and changed over time as the charcoal slowly caught fire and over time glowed and decomposed.
The heads themselves were very well constructed, with the metal mesh frame containing and keeping the shape of the heads as the charcoal burnt and also controlling the burn - being a relatively small managable crowd it was refreshing at an event like this to actually be allowed close to the fires - they were roped off a little, but realistically you couldnt stand next to the rope for any length of time they were packing so much heat (infact I felt positively freezing wondering back from a little to take a wide shot!)
I'm looking forward to see where the project leads next - it made for a wonderful autumn evening and i'd do it again at the drop of a hat!

a long project of Z\W\A\R\T magazine in a former militairy building:
“The abandoned building KKN24 is located on Buitenplaats Koningsweg a former military base in Arnhem, The Netherlands.
The building was a sleeping-quarter for soldiers, 4 in one room. 39 Rooms in the whole building. The building is waiting to be demolished, meanwhile it transforms back to nature. In october 2014 artist BiOP got permission to use the building for site-specific artworks. He invites several artists to transmute the building and their artwork, 24hours a day. [ ]
During Code Rood ( Code Red) the art and the building can be visited (every last saturday).”

The overconsumption of energy is an ongoing issue in a world where we heavily depend upon our limited resources. Although the issue has been acknowledged, what we as society fail to understand is the speed in which our resources are being depleted. We are constantly harvesting and consuming energy, yet the energy or power is never returned. This imbalance is what I aim to highlight through this video. I am trying to, from a state of mind perspective; transmute these elements into something safe that is not harmful to the environment. I would like to position this difficult situation in a much better light where I am utilizing confetti as the symbolism for energy and power.
I think that these two garbage ransacking creatures are chihuahas, but they might be fox terriers or some sick hybrid of hyena and shrew. In any case, I've been stalked by pit bulls that I was fonder of.
Anyone who has seen my photostream knows that I am fond of animals, all kinds of animals: dogs, cats, snakes, rabbits, dolphins, turtles, squirrels, armadillos, opossums...
But, didn't some fellow say that evil exists because good men do nothing, like run the little bastards over, or bring that pit bull into the cul-de-sac for a day.
But noooooooooooooooooooo, the barking disgusting vile little creatures are still around, still free.
The owners are nice enough folks, who swear that they try to keep the beasts in, but, if roaches can get through cracks as small as 1/16", as the pest control commercials say, these two can't need much more than that, and they probably transmute to malodorous vapors and get through anything, anyway...
Will no one rid me of these turbulent beasts?

Jasper is the stone of selflessness; it is the mother of all stones bringing about Love of all mankind. Red jasper assists in transmuting pain, especially menstrual pain. To draw away focus from pain, back to the centre. For emotional, mental and physical pain, it is a grounding and healing stone. Jasper makes its effects known slowly and gradually, just like nature. It's considered an emotionally calming stone, and can be an excellent stone for either those who are hypersensitive to crystalline energy and find it difficult to work with, or for those who like change to be a gradual, unfolding process.

** Origin and facts of the Hungry Ghost Festival:

'Floating Satellites' is an audiovisual interactive installation where position data of a series of artificial satellites orbiting around the planet earth is fed into the interactive system and used for graphic visualizations and sound control.
The orbits of the satellites around the planet earth act like a visual sequencer, and when the satellites cross specific coordinates events are triggered into the audiovisual generation system.

A look around Lucca, this wasn't a guided tour but we were being taken towards the Piazza Anfiteatro. The weather was fine in the morning.
A look round Piazza del Giglio in front of the Teatro del Giglio.
Giglio, always artistic and cultural landmark of the city of Lucca, in 1985 he received recognition for traditional theatres. His birth dates back more than three centuries ago when the Council of the Republic of Lucca established by decree a public theatre that had an intense attitività artists over the centuries.
The Teatro del Giglio (Theatre of the Giglio) is the historic city theatre and opera house located in Piazza del Giglio #13 and #15 in the center of Lucca, region of Tuscany, Italy.
The prior Teatro Pubblico (Public Theatre), inaugurated in 1675, which had been destroyed by a fire and rebuilt. After the Napoleonic upheavals, the site had fallen to ruin. A new theatre, represented by this Neoclassical-style structure, was built at the site in 1818 by Giovanni Lazzarini. The rusticated portico is surmounted by a balustrade upholding pilasters, that lead to a tympanum with the coat of arms of the city. The frieze reads Teatro Comunale del Giglio.
The name giglio or lily derives from the fleur-de-lis emblem (?), that was part of the Bourbon heraldic shield of the reigning duchess, Maria Luisa of the House of Bourbon. In the early 19th century, the interiors were painted by Luigi Gatani, while the sipario or theatre curtain was painted by Federico Tarquini.
During the 19th century, the theatre underwent updating, adding gas lighting in 1872, and electric lights in 1911. It was closed for two years during World War War I. A major refurbishment took place in the 1980s. A statue of Garibaldi stands in the square in front of the theatre.
Sculpture trail around Lucca by Jiménez Deredia.
The City of Lucca, with its culture and history, is the ideal setting to present the works of Jiménez Deredia. The circular and oval shapes of the Costa Rican artist's sculptures accompany the spectator along a fluid and harmonious path into the urban fabric of the Tuscan City. In this exhibition, Jiménez Deredia presents symbolic-transmutative sculpture of an organic nature which presents the idea of cosmic participation. The Costa Rican artist provides a spherical-circular view of human beings by means of a series of "Geneses", which narrate a story of time and space through the transformation of matter, and which, according to the artist, lead us to "acknowledge that we are transmuting stardust".
Recuerdo Profundo
Snow White and her seven dwarfs were Italian, not German, as has long been presumed, claims a book by an Italian literature scholar. Figurines, the most ancient of which date back to the 17th century, legends, tales, amulets to protect, or to make themselves invisible: what is the origin of garden gnomes?
Everyone knows them, from the 7 dwarfs in the cartoon Snow White to the garden dwarfs, often represented as minors. But the dwarves with their caps and their mining tools really did exist.
The fairy tale, set down by the Brothers Grimm at the end of the 19th century, was traditionally thought to have its roots in German folklore.
But Giuliano Palmieri, an academic in Treviso, claims Snow White, or perhaps Biancaneve, came from the Dolomites in a region of the Cordevole river north of Belluno. The area was known for its magnesium-rich iron mines, which provided the raw material to make weapons for Venice.
Dr Palmieri says the fairy tale derives from an ancient ritual in the regions when a beautiful, noble girl would be sent down a mine which was running low in ore so she could "transmit her vital energy to Mother Earth".
And the miners would have had to have been small to fit in tiny tunnels, hence the seven dwarfs, Dr Palmieri says in his book The Lost Kingdoms of the White Mountains.
It is likely many were of German origin, and told the story to relatives over the border, where it was eventually picked up by the Brothers Grimm, he believes. The theory comes at a time when fairly tales and their origins are the focus of considerable attention in Italy, and the country is keen to claim back its own. Anticipation of a new film of Pinocchio, directed
by and starring Roberto Benigni, famed for La Vita e Bella, is at fever pitch before its release in Italy on 11 October.
"The funny thing is that now it is necessary to explain to the Americans why an Italian is making Pinocchio," Nicola Piovani, who has composed the music, told an Italian newspaper. "They are convinced he was invented by Walt Disney."
In Venice, the Serenissima, aware of her fame and prosperity during the Renaissance (Francis I was King of France at the time), needed precious minerals and metals for her trade (goods often paid for in gold) or for her art (cobalt blue for Murano's stained glass windows)... However, cobalt, silver was missing....
In Venice, dwarves, more or less alchemists, having the science of metals formed a powerful corporation of prospectors and miners. Their small size allowed them to slip through the bowels of the earth in search of rare veins and stones. The rocks being hard, the galleries were narrow. Besides their funny cap is a Greek cap, phrygian but padded with straw at the top to soften the shocks when they hit the rock. Mithras. Mithras Phrygian Cap originated from Phrygia, a centre of Mithraism in Anatolia, the capital of which was Konya. Mithraism was celebrating in holes with energy from deep earth. Mithraism, also known as the Mithraic mysteries, was a mystery religion centered to relationship between sun and earth, the initiates in the blood of a bull slaughtered above their head, over a hole in the ceiling of the Mithraeum. The cave is without Sun energy and full of earth electricity for the initiation rites. Mithraïsm is supposed to be an amazing old science .
For this reason, the statuettes in our gardens often depict them with a long cap, a pickaxe or shovel and a miner's lamp.
Venice, the richest city in the West at that time was in search of new mines. She called upon the dwarves who secretly set out to explore in new lands north of the Alps. Every spring they crossed the Alps and their experience, their know-how, their secrets allowed them to find gold and other precious metals in remote places.
Only their mines being in Germanic territory, they made themselves discreet avoiding the few peasants of these remote regions. Sometimes they were afraid of what was being said. It seems that they put bones at the entrance of their mines to dissuade the curious.
Their small size made them mysterious. They hid and disappeared easily, invisible and discreet. Hence the legend of their invisibility and that of the gnomes, and other creatures of legend which however take their source in the reality of the dwarfs of Venice...
From this time there remain the statuettes, legends, 7 dwarfs all minors in a famous cartoon and, near Venice, a villa with 6 statues of dwarves.
