This is the Peachtree Rock. The triangular shape makes it look sorta like a peachtree, but I think it looks more like the outline of the state of South Carolina.
The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin, Germany. 19,000 square metres of 872 concrete stelae (concrete slabs) of different heights, designed by Peter Eisenman and officially opened in May 2005, fifty years after the end of the Second World War.
At some point, I had to push my knee further.
So it was on Saturday we agreed to go to Dover Castle, not too far if I became "lame".
Up at six, with it being not just light outside, but the sun rose just gone six, and it felt like it was going to be a great spring day.
I went to Tesco, we didn't need much, and with Jools only working three days next week, we have enough frozen meals for her lunches.
Tesco was pretty empty, so I rush round getting the stuff we needed, and some stuff not on the list, then back home for quarter to eight to pack away the gatherings and have breakfast of fruit. Spanish strawberries have now appeared, and some are tasty as well as juicy, so we have a big bowl of fruit and more coffee before it was time to go to the castle for when it opened.
What we didn't know was that this weekend is where folks who play the lottery or scratchcards could use an old lottery ticket to gain free entry to English Heritage or National Trust properties as a thanks for for grants from the lottery fund.
This would mean it would be crazy crowded.
This we found when we arrived at the turn off on Castle Hill to the castle, the queue of traffic leading all the way down, waiting for the ten o'clock opening.
More joined the queue behind us, this did not feel normal.
But once we were allowed in, we all took a parking slot, then walked to the entrance, we flashed our new membership cards, and walked up the slope to the Keep and the church.
St Mary in Castro looks quite modern, and inside is mostly Victorian, but there are signs it is older. In fact it is Saxon, though until the middle of the 19th century was ruinous, so was repaired as to how it now appears.
The arches and windows are clearly Saxon, though little else remains.
I took shots of the windows, arches and some fittings with the big lens, but by then others had arrived at the church, so having got my shots, we left.
And further decided to go back to the castle a less busy day, so walked down to the main area in front of the Keep and then back down to the car park, where all spaces were now full, and more cars arriving every minute.
It only takes five minutes to drive home, where it was time for a brew, and a day of relaxing ahead, with the strong possibility for me of 10 (ten) hours of sport, though in the end I bailed on the late England v France rugby match as Ireland won the Grand Slam.
At three, Norwich played Stoke, on a sunny afternoon, and romped to a fine 3-0 win, thus strengthening our claim to sixth place in the table, but a long way to go yet.
On the tellybox then was Fulham v Spurs, in which Spurs went all Spursy and lost 3-0, but it could have been worse.
Things I Know to be True, by Andrew Bovell
Things I Know to be True is a beautifully written drama centring on the lives of a family over the period of a year, poignantly presented through the seasons. It is described as a “complex and intense portrait of the mechanics of a family – and a marriage –through the eyes of four siblings struggling to define themselves beyond their parents’ love and expectations”.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Goodbye Angels
Red Hot Chili Peppers, also sometimes shortened to The Chili Peppers or abbreviated as RHCP, are an American alternative rock/funk rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983. The group's musical style primarily consists of rock with an emphasis on funk, as well as elements from other genres such as punk rock and psychedelic rock. When played live, their music incorporates elements of jam band due to the improvised nature of much of their performances. Currently, the band consists of founding members vocalist Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea, longtime drummer Chad Smith, and former touring guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of the best-selling bands of all time with over 80 million records sold worldwide, have been nominated for sixteen Grammy Awards, of which they have won six, and are the most successful band in alternative rock radio history, currently holding the records for most number-one singles (13), most cumulative weeks at number one (85) and most top-ten songs (25) on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. In 2012, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

When Andrew Marvell in To his Coy Mistress penned,
My vegetable love should grow
Vaster than empires, and more slow.
It maybe that he was referring to perennial potent plant power that does not fade like the fickle nature of man. It could be that vegetable love is more dependable even than fruit love as it grows more slowly and surely and can often be preserved for longer. My vegetable love extends to hot summer moments spent inside large canvass enclosure viewing prized vegetables shown by experts and judged by committee. I particularly enjoy seeing rosettes and certificates.
Thomas Banks. Monument to Penelope Boothby, 1793 . Penelope Boothby 1785 –1791) was a girl who has become one of the most famous child characters in British art. Her image inspired the paintings by Joshua Reynolds, Henry Fuseli, John Everett Millais, a sculpture by Thomas Banks, photographs of Lewis Carroll, sonnet of Brooke Boothby.
According to art historian Richard Warren in the art of the 19th-20th centuries Penelope Boothby became a classic child of the Romantic era, the keeper of heavenly innocence, a symbol of “what we have lost and what we are afraid to lose.”The image of Penelope was actively exploited by popular culture throughout the 20th century.

I've never played Genshin Impact, but it is a game that appeals to me. Taking the best parts of Breath of the Wild, and getting rid of the things I hate the most about that game (pretty much all of it), this Free-to-Play game has a massive following across several platforms - I think Switch is the only system that doesn't actually have a version of this game.
It amuses me to no end that Breath of the Wild purists get upset whenever this game is discussed because of the obvious homages.
Anyway, the point is the game itself isn't simply popular because it has borrowed some widely accepted game mechanics. There's also a large number of well designed characters. Figma got on that fairly quickly, with the first one to be produced being Mona, the "Mirror Reflection of Doom" version.. whatever that means.
I actually like magic users - they're usually my first choice in any fantasy game, and I feel the character design and accessories captures that nicely. Beautiful blue colour. Lots of shiny gold bits and pieces and well as stars, and an awesome hat - things that any self respecting anime magic users will have.
What I really like about this particular hat isn't the way it looks, but rather, it's so much better than the monstrosity that was Megumin. You see, this one attaches to the head with a peg, whereas Megumin required you to slip a piece of plastic between the hair pieces. I much prefer the former, even if there's a hole there.
Mona comes with three face plates, including one that is dedicated for expressions of personal pain. Based on the instruction manual and other parts, I'm going to guess being broke is kind of her thing, though I find other uses for it.
In terms of accessories, you have a magic blast and some sort of magic projection, but the star of that particular show segment is her Grimoire, which is mean to be posed floating on a dedicated arm - there's no real hands to grip it, and I'm not entirely certain the joints can actually handle the weight of the thing.
The Grimoire is actually a substantial piece, made up of three separate pieces of plastic joined with actual hinge pins, and comes with a separate clasp piece that shows how competent QC is supposed to work.
Speaking of articulation, the figure itself can do a wide variety of poses as expected, as there is little to no bulk in the way of movement.

Description: "Frederick Hollick achieved massive popularity and occasional notoriety during the mid-nineteenth century as a purveyor of sexual knowledge. A writer, itinerant lecturer, and self-accredited "medical man," Hollick spread his views of sexual form, function, and behavior to thousands of antebellum Americans through his home health manuals. The books that he based on his lectures sold hundreds of editions, traveled west, and were translated into Spanish. ... Following his mentor, the British socialist Robert Owen, Hollick held radical convictions about sexuality, marriage, contraception, and the liberatory potential of scientific education for the masses. But unlike other Owenite lecturers, he eventually claimed a special prerogative as a doctor—in his words, a "Medical Red Republican"—to speak publicly about these topics."--April Haynes, "The Trials of Frederick Hollick" (Journal of the Historty of Sexuality 12.4 (2003), 543-574), p. 545

Voronezh is a city and the administrative centre of Voronezh Oblast in southwestern Russia straddling the Voronezh River, located 12 kilometers (7.5 mi) from where it flows into the Don River. The city sits on the Southeastern Railway, which connects western Russia with the Urals and Siberia, the Caucasus and Ukraine, and the M4 highway (Moscow–Voronezh–Rostov-on-Don–Novorossiysk). In recent years the city has experienced rapid population growth, rising in 2021 to 1,057,681, up from 889,680 recorded in the 2010 Census, making it the 14th-most populous city in the country.
The first chronicle references to the word "Voronezh" are dated 1177, when the Ryazan prince Yaropolk, having lost the battle, fled "to Voronozh" and there was moving "from town to town". Modern data of archeology and history interpret Voronezh as a geographical region, which included the Voronezh river (tributary of the Don) and a number of settlements. In the lower reaches of the river, a unique Slavic town-planning complex of the 8th – early 11th century was discovered, which covered the territory of the present city of Voronezh and its environs (about 42 km long, about 13 forts and many unfortified villages). By the 12th – 13th centuries, most of the old towns were desolate, but new settlements appeared upstream, closer to Ryazan.
For many years, the hypothesis of the Soviet historian Vladimir Zagorovsky dominated: he produced the toponym "Voronezh" from the hypothetical Slavic personal name Voroneg. This man allegedly gave the name of a small town in the Chernigov Principality (now the village of Voronizh in Ukraine). Later, in the 11th or 12th century, the settlers were able to "transfer" this name to the Don region, where they named the second city Voronezh, and the river got its name from the city. However, now many researchers criticize the hypothesis, since in reality neither the name of Voroneg nor the second city was revealed, and usually the names of Russian cities repeated the names of the rivers, but not vice versa.
The linguistic comparative analysis of the name "Voronezh" was carried out by the Khovansky Foundation in 2009. There is an indication of the place names of many countries in Eurasia, which may partly be not only similar in sound, but also united by common Indo-European languages: Varanasi, Varna, Verona, Brno, etc.
A comprehensive scientific analysis was conducted in 2015–2016 by the historian Pavel Popov. His conclusion: "Voronezh" is a probable Slavic macrotoponym associated with outstanding signs of nature, has a root voron- (from the proto-Slavic vorn) in the meaning of "black, dark" and the suffix -ezh (-azh, -ozh). It was not “transferred” and in the 8th - 9th centuries it marked a vast territory covered with black forests (oak forests) - from the mouth of the Voronezh river to the Voronozhsky annalistic forests in the middle and upper reaches of the river, and in the west to the Don (many forests were cut down). The historian believes that the main "city" of the early town-planning complex could repeat the name of the region – Voronezh. Now the hillfort is located in the administrative part of the modern city, in the Voronezh upland oak forest. This is one of Europe's largest ancient Slavic hillforts, the area of which – more than 9 hectares – 13 times the area of the main settlement in Kyiv before the baptism of Rus.
In it is assumed that the word "Voronezh" means bluing - a technique to increase the corrosion resistance of iron products. This explanation fits well with the proximity to the ancient city of Voronezh of a large iron deposit and the city of Stary Oskol. As well as the name of Voroneț Monastery known for its blue shade.
Folk etymology claims the name comes from combining the Russian words for raven (ворон) and hedgehog (еж) into Воронеж. According to this explanation two Slavic tribes named after the animals used this combination to name the river which later in turn provided the name for a settlement. There is not believed to be any scientific support for this explanation.
In the 16th century, the Middle Don basin, including the Voronezh river, was gradually conquered by Muscovy from the Nogai Horde (a successor state of the Golden Horde), and the current city of Voronezh was established in 1585 by Feodor I as a fort protecting the Muravsky Trail trade route against the slave raids of the Nogai and Crimean Tatars. The city was named after the river.
17th to 19th centuries
In the 17th century, Voronezh gradually evolved into a sizable town. Weronecz is shown on the Worona river in Resania in Joan Blaeu's map of 1645. Peter the Great built a dockyard in Voronezh where the Azov Flotilla was constructed for the Azov campaigns in 1695 and 1696. This fleet, the first ever built in Russia, included the first Russian ship of the line, Goto Predestinatsia. The Orthodox diocese of Voronezh was instituted in 1682 and its first bishop, Mitrofan of Voronezh, was later proclaimed the town's patron saint.
Owing to the Voronezh Admiralty Wharf, for a short time, Voronezh became the largest city of South Russia and the economic center of a large and fertile region. In 1711, it was made the seat of the Azov Governorate, which eventually morphed into the Voronezh Governorate.
In the 19th century, Voronezh was a center of the Central Black Earth Region. Manufacturing industry (mills, tallow-melting, butter-making, soap, leather, and other works) as well as bread, cattle, suet, and the hair trade developed in the town. A railway connected Voronezh with Moscow in 1868 and Rostov-on-Don in 1871.
20th century
During World War II, Voronezh was the scene of fierce fighting between Soviet and combined Axis troops. The Germans used it as a staging area for their attack on Stalingrad, and made it a key crossing point on the Don River. In June 1941, two BM-13 (Fighting machine #13 Katyusha) artillery installations were built at the Voronezh excavator factory. In July, the construction of Katyushas was rationalized so that their manufacture became easier and the time of volley repetition was shortened from five minutes to fifteen seconds. More than 300 BM-13 units manufactured in Voronezh were used in a counterattack near Moscow in December 1941. In October 22, 1941, the advance of the German troops prompted the establishment of a defense committee in the city. On November 7, 1941, there was a troop parade, devoted to the anniversary of the October Revolution. Only three such parades were organized that year: in Moscow, Kuybyshev, and Voronezh. In late June 1942, the city was attacked by German and Hungarian forces. In response, Soviet forces formed the Voronezh Front. By July 6, the German army occupied the western river-bank suburbs before being subjected to a fierce Soviet counter-attack. By July 24 the frontline had stabilised along the Voronezh River as the German forces continued southeast into the Great Bend of the Don. The attack on Voronezh represented the first phase of the German Army's 1942 campaign in the Soviet Union, codenamed Case Blue.
Until January 25, 1943, parts of the Second German Army and the Second Hungarian Army occupied the western part of Voronezh. During Operation Little Saturn, the Ostrogozhsk–Rossosh Offensive, and the Voronezhsko-Kastornenskoy Offensive, the Voronezh Front exacted heavy casualties on Axis forces. On January 25, 1943, Voronezh was liberated after ten days of combat. During the war the city was almost completely ruined, with 92% of all buildings destroyed.
Post-war
By 1950, Voronezh had been rebuilt. Most buildings and historical monuments were repaired. It was also the location of a prestigious Suvorov Military School, a boarding school for young boys who were considered to be prospective military officers, many of whom had been orphaned by war.
In 1950–1960, new factories were established: a tire factory, a machine-tool factory, a factory of heavy mechanical pressing, and others. In 1968, Serial production of the Tupolev Tu-144 supersonic plane was established at the Voronezh Aviation factory. In October 1977, the first Soviet domestic wide-body plane, Ilyushin Il-86, was built there.
In 1989, TASS published details of an alleged UFO landing in the city's park and purported encounters with extraterrestrial beings reported by a number of children. A Russian scientist that was cited in initial TASS reports later told the Associated Press that he was misquoted, cautioning, "Don't believe all you hear from TASS," and "We never gave them part of what they published", and a TASS correspondent admitted the possibility that some "make-believe" had been added to the TASS story, saying, "I think there is a certain portion of truth, but it is not excluded that there is also fantasizing".
21st century
From 10 to 17 September 2011, Voronezh celebrated its 425th anniversary. The anniversary of the city was given the status of a federal scale celebration that helped attract large investments from the federal and regional budgets for development.
On December 17, 2012, Voronezh became the fifteenth city in Russia with a population of over one million people.
Today Voronezh is the economic, industrial, cultural, and scientific center of the Central Black Earth Region. As part of the annual tradition in the Russian city of Voronezh, every winter the main city square is thematically drawn around a classic literature. In 2020, the city was decorated using the motifs from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. In the year of 2021, the architects drew inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen as well as the animation classic The Snow Queen from the Soviet Union. The fairy tale replica city will feature the houses of Kai and Gerda, the palace of the snow queen, an ice rink, and illumination.

RAINBOW MOUNTAIN PART 1/3
Climb to Vinicunca or Winikunka/Montaña de Siete Colores/Rainbow Mountain.
This mountain is located between Cusco and Arequipa but closer to Cusco. So what I did: I took a local night bus from Arequipa and went off at 6am at the intersection to join people coming from Cusco and hiked up with them. So I saved time and money too 😜
Lot of people use the horse services to go up but they don’t know that actually the horses can’t go that high. So they will have to climb the last part by themselves anyway. I, of course, hiked all the way up by my own.

Dad (Olaf Steen), with Björn Herse's father in background. August 1948. Björn (Olaf's friend, not in photo) and his father were among friends and family that came to see him off at Oslo Pier en route to New York, and ultimately Cambridge, Massachusetts, to attend MIT. Björn traveled later to the U.S. where he studied at Lincoln University in Nebraska.
On February 13 2009 the Armenian Orthodox Church celebrated the eve of the feast of the “Presentation of Jesus to the Temple” by His parents.
Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral of the Armenian Catholicosate was full and lively particularly with young mothers and their children, parents and grand parents had brought their children to “offer them” to the Church and receive its blessings.
In his message Catholicos Aram I said that the parents of Jesus brought their child to the House of God in order to affirm that the Child belongs to the Church and therefore, he/she should grow in the Church with God-given wisdom and grace. “Your presence in this Cathedral today, confirms this conviction that our children are the children of God and will grow in our Church, with the spiritual and moral values taught by the Church, and that they will respond to the challenges coming from our societies clothed by the teachings of our Church.”
In the Armenian Orthodox Church, celebrations on the eve of the feast of the “Presentation of Jesus to the Temple” is concluded with a very ancient tradition of lighting bonfire. After the prayers, the clergy and congregation walk in procession to the place where the bonfire is lit, and they walk around the bonfire three times, symbolizing purification by light. At the end of the round, people take the light from the Church to their homes in specially prepared torches. copyright@Ashnag

Thanks to all the writers!
After a disastrous last weekend trying to bench this spot and being chased away by like 800 bikers, I went back this weekend and managed to be out here for a little over 5 hours without issue. 11:30 AM - 5 PM.
Not to say that there wasn't some sketchiness going on, but when you're out for hours your bound to see some shit going down. It's usually just homeless shenanigans, but I leave them alone and they leave me alone. Everyone just kinda' gets along and minds their own business. Just how I like it.
Spotted some AMAZING pieces today. Some of my favorite writers doing their best work, and not so best work, but seeing their work makes going out there worth it to me.
The added benefit: I got out of the house for a few hours, didn't think about work, life, the f-ing Covid, or anything else besides spotting some great pieces and getting the best shots of those pieces I could. Good times.
700+ shots this session, culled down to a little under 600. A lot of shots, yeah. But, every time I take a shot I'm documenting something that might get buffed next week and it will be gone forever. Documenting art that could vanish in a week, a month, a year.. Who knows. Either way, I've captured it, and will share it for as long as I can.
All in all, it was a good day.
Thanks to Vidterry I have changed the ID of this to a Viceroy. The bad news I still have not seen a Monarch this year, the good news is that this is a lifer for me - Thanks Terry.
I have changed the title to reflect the change
Viceroy not the season's first monarch. A lot has been written about the plight of the monarch butterflies this year. What is certain is that there are far fewer monarchs where I live than previous years. In fact this is the very first monarch that I have seen this year.

Visit with Runyon to his favorite place on earth - Swift Run Dog Park (near the intersection of Platt and Ellsworth and across the street from Lillie Park). From the City site: "The joint city-county Swift Run Dog Park is located at the northeast corner of the Swift Run landfill. It is bounded on the north by Ellsworth Road and on the east by Platt Road. The 10-acre Swift Run Dog Park is maintained in partnership with Washtenaw County with financial contributions from both the city and county." What a wonderful visit with Runyon and I today. He loves playing with the other dogs and it is great to see him run wide open. Pictures from Saturday October 31st, 2020. Hanging out with his morning crew. He really does like going to the Dog Park with his peeps!

Decided to mess about shooting a self portrait since I can’t carry my camera gear currently due to recovering from an eye issue.
Well when I say I issue I’ve been blind in my left eye for about 20 years thanks to complications of Type 1 diabetes & thanks to the numerous surgeries in it the eye is pretty deformed now and the muscles in my left eyelid are shot so I’m really self conscious about it - hence the lighting.
& the latest issue is a problem in my right eye affecting my vision which thankfully seems to be settling but in the meantime no carrying or lifting heavy weights.
I think in the current image conscious age we live in its very easy to be overly critical and really aware of the slightest flaw in our own appearance but realistically we are who we are, scars and all & that probably makes for more interesting photos that maybe capture more character.
