It is almost time for Smugmug to close down Flickr for maintenance so that they can perform the mammoth task of transferring every single thing on Flickr to a new server. Hard to imagine, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that the transfer all goes smoothly. There will probably be a few glitches to iron out afterwards, but these will no doubt eventually be fixed.
The day before yesterday, 19 May 2019, I was out for the day with my daughter, to celebrate Mother's Day and yet another birthday for me. I always look forward to a day like this - my favourite way to spend a day! I hope she enjoyed it as much as I did. Unfortunately, the weather was cloudy and windy, especially when we went to Frank Lake after spending time at the Saskatoon Farm. We both still managed to get a few photos and, today, the colourful ones are most welcome, as we have yet another gloomy day. I think it must have rained again last night, as I can see there are puddles out there.
Our day started with a delicious breakfast at the Farm, after which we walked around the grounds. I always enjoy seeing the farm cats and dogs wandering about, inside and outside. Visitors are not allowed to bring dogs, which means that the farm animals can roam in peace.
The gardens have not yet been planted with flowers - just as well, as I noticed that there was a risk of frost on two recent nights. There are flowers blooming in the greenhouses, though.
Our next destination was Frank Lake, where we hoped to see at least a few birds. It was very quiet, with little to photograph - not the best time of the day. Two Eared Grebes were swimming near the blind, but what a challenge they were! Non stop swimming and constantly changing direction, fast. I think I ended up with a couple of photos that might be sharp enough to post - the rest have been deleted. A Yellow-headed Blackbird, perched on a cattail, was swaying in and out of the viewfinder.
It felt really good to get out, as I have been spending so much time going through all the images from our trip to South Texas. It did feel a little strange to be driving, as I have barely been out the last few weeks.
Love is like a flower; with proper nurturing it blooms and flourishes as each day passes.
Yet, if it is neglected, in a moment's time it soon withers and dies.
To hold love, you must treat it as a rare and tender flower, nurturing it with the utmost patience and care.
To keep it vibrant and alive it takes many long hours of continuous effort and constant attention.
To lose it takes only a moment of of forgetfulness, disinterest and mistrust.

You kill me. Day in and day out, I'm tied up with emotions. You never tell me a simple hello or a warm goodbye. It's been this way for as long as I can remember. I don't know what to do with myself anymore. You are mentally abusing me, and when it's a lonely night like this, it gets worse. You bring this darkness out, and I get confused with myself. You make me question my thoughts, my securities, and my feelings. I never know how to walk into a home feeling safe anymore. I pray for you. I pray for others. But tonight, I'm praying for myself.

JAGO: “Oh hullo there! We didn’t see you there.”
ORSON: “Indeed Jago, we didn’t! You were very quiet, crouching there and peering through Daddy’s front white picket fence.”
DAISY-MAUD: “We were just taking tea.”
ORSON: “It’s such a lovely day, we didn’t want to take tea in the parlour.”
JAGO: “So we decided to have it outside, here in the garden instead.”
DAISY-MAUD: “Would you care to join us? We always have room for friends. There is plenty of hot tea in the pot.”
The theme for "Smile on Saturday" for the 21st of October is "behind the fence", where you have to take a photograph of a fence and something behind it. I am not quite sure whether this will cut the mustard for this theme or not, so I have a second version if it doesn’t. The white out-of-focus bars to either end of the photograph are pickets in my front garden’s white picket fence. Often, if you should happen to pass my house and peer through the pickets on the fence, you will find my bears playing hide-and-seek, celebrating birthday parties, enjoying picnics, or as we find Daisy-Maud, her brother Jago, and friend Orson, taking tea. I hope you like my choice of this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile.
Jago was a gift from a dear friend in England. He is made of English mohair with suede paw pads and glass eyes. He is a gentle bear, kind and patient who carries an air of calm about him. He is already fitting in with everyone else very nicely.
Daisy Maud is Jago's little sister and was made by the same friend in England who made him. She is made of German mohair with floral fabric cotton paw pads that match her pretty sunhat, and glass eyes. A sweet and loving little girl bear, she is happy to be reunited with her big brother, Jago, and enjoys being spoiled by her new Daddy.
Orson, named after the little bear constellation, was made by the same friend who made Jago and Daisy-Maud. He comes ready dressed in 'trousers' made of German mohair accessorised with embroidered braces. His paws are ultra suede and his eyes are glass. He is described as being a little bit serious minded but very friendly. He's fine once he gets to know you.
This beautiful nursery rhyme tea set was made in England by the Shell China Company in the 1930s. It features six cups, saucers and plates as well as a teapot, milk jug and sugar bowl. Each piece is gilt edged and decorated and feature different nursery rhymes including: "Ding Dong Dell Pussy’s in the Well", "The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe", "Old King Cole", "Pat a Cake Pat a Cake Baker’s Man", "Little Tommy Tittlemouse", "See Saw Margery Daw" and &This Little Pig Went to Market" amongst others. The set I acquired from England, and it is a sister set to a 1920s Shell China Company nursery rhyme tea set and a 1920s faerie tale tea set. There are also doll (bear) sized tea spoons which are sterling silver salt spoons, and the spoon in the "Little Tommy Tittlemouse" sugar bowl is an Eighteenth Century mustard spoon and is sterling silver.

MY DAD:
A simple manipulation relative to the messages it expresses.
For those that are going through the very complex, confusing and often life-endangering eating disorders of Anorexia or bulimia, this artwork may not make sense. What they see in the mirror and the way they see themselves is often an image that is never good enough for their standards.
For the afflicted there is often much more room for improvement in many aspects of their life that craves control and which they may feel they have lost. A possible control for them manifests itself as their control, improvement, loss of weight. They see it as there is always "MUCH TO LOSE".
As sad and scary as this is for those with an eating disorder, it is even worse for their loved ones that often feel helpless as they witness the self-destruction of one they love. For the loved ones of the afflicted there is also "MUCH TO LOSE" in that they risk losing the one they love.
But if they truly love this person and do not want to lose this person, they must first get out of their own denial that what they see is only normal or its "only a phase she/he is going through". Without your help - They Wont! Loved ones need to accept what they are witnessing and take action. The actions may not be what some might naturally think.
The next step is to seek out all education on eating disorders and how to help their loved one get through this. Read the Internet. Call a help-line that specializes in eating disorders and ask for advice. Contact your Dr. Then take action on this advice.
Those with the disorder wont help themselves since they feel what they are doing is bettering themselves, perfecting themselves, controlling aspects of their life. So don't expect that just telling them that you suspect they have an eating disorder will make them go "OMG I didnt realize and I will now stop". They wont. They will be angry and only do a better job at hiding their weight loss actions from you. It has become an out of control obsession for them and they need much more help and support than that. They need a lot of love and support and well educated leadership / guidance (even though they wont see it that way) from those that love them.
So for the afflicted and their loved ones, there certainly is Much To Lose - but its surely not weight. If you love them - notice the issue, believe it, and Take Action.
There are several valuable sites online. Here is one good one on Eating Disorders:
HOW I MADE THE ART...
This artwork is a true SL photo manipulation of several elements. Two model photos used from the several I took of my friend Wise Sandalwood on a studio green screen. She did not know what I was going to use the model photos for but i gave her the details of what i was looking for in the model (a teen girl partly undressed but not nude and poses as if she was examining herself in a mirror). The avatar she provided and the outfit were perfect. The avatar was a normally slightly thin but still curvy girl.
I then had to take the model facing away from the camera and use photoshop to make her agressively unhealthy stick-like thin. I then took the avatar facing the camera and made her exceptionally curvatious. I was given the old fashioned stand up mirror from a fellow SL Merchant (thanks Sonya Haight) to photograph on a green screen as well.
I then merged the main elements together. I added a seperate mirror-glass oval in PS and used it to layer mask the front facing avatar expicitly into the mirror. Finally I added/blended three textures from Pareeerica's amazing library of textures into the art to give it that worn and weathered rusting frame appearance. The rust is symbolic as rust flaking from steel that once was strong is like lbs of weight falling from a woman (or man) that once was healthy and strong.

I used to think this is a Sarah Bernhardt peony, but now I have doubts. I have another (Sarah Bernhardt), right next to this one, and it is so fully doubled, almost 'frilly,' quite different.
Whatever this is, it's my favorite peony on the whole planet. (But then... I haven't seen them all....) It is extremely hardy, surviving past winters down into the -70sF (-55 to -60C) and comes back each spring with beautiful blooms in summer, with no protection other than growing in a bed against the south side of my house.
If you have any ideas to it's variety, I'd love to hear them. I am sure I would recognize it's name if I saw it, as I have only grown a half dozen varieties of peony, only four successfully.
This doesn't go out to anyone in particular. I'm sure plenty of people have been through this. Been rejected, been stranded, or felt that way. I usually don't hold back the things I want to say. I'm pretty outgoing. But, the one thing I want to say to someone, I can't. It's useless. But, maybe in 10 years I'll have my chance. :) <3
Thank you. <3

What is it that we are all looking for? Is it someone to love with all of the love we can muster up inside of ourselves? Is that the dream that we all dream? To find someone who will love us will all of the passion in their heart? Someone who will reciprocate the love that we give to them in every way?
Or is it really that we long to be appreciated for who we are... for what we are... for what we have overcome and for what we have achieved?
As I mature in years and in wisdom I understand that it's not too difficult a proposition to fall in love... it's more challenging to maintain that love and to keep the fire of pasion burning and the flames stoked with the growing together that results from the soft and tender shared moments in life... as I come to understand so much more about myself and the world... what I have come to understand is more than the quest for love... that obtaining a partner who appreciates you deeply and sincerely is the 'holy grail' of relationships.
There is no satisfaction so deep as to open yourself up to another human being in complete honesty and to have that person truly appreciate you.
To be appreciated is to be loved.
One of the initial views upon entering Upper Antelope Canyon, or Tsé bighánílíní, "the place where water runs through rocks" as named by the Navajo. The Antelope Canyons are located in the Navajo Nation and to visit the slot canyon you must use a tour guide that has been authorized by the Navajo.
The light and shadows combined with the curves and striations of the Navajo Sandstone make this a photographer's dream (at least mine) come true. In this image both the vertical and horizontal striations in the sandstone are visible. Despite the crowds and commercialization of these slot canyons, it's an experience I would not have wanted to miss.

According to the friendly lawnmower-man, Monkredding was empty and for sale when I visited, although I believe it has since sold.
From round the back, it is a bit easier to to see the fortified origins of the building. The block to the right, with the power line running to it, was built in two stages in the early 17th century, together with the round tower. The round tower has unfortunately been greatly raised in height, to unsightly effect! It gives the appearance of having been fed steroids, or Viagra perhaps!
Everything else is more recent.
Walking back to West Kirby from Hilbre Island as the tide starts to come in. Taken under a full moon.
The last of the photos from Hilbre Island at night for now. i kind of screwed up with my settings for most of the shots. i knew it was going to be a full moon but i had my camera set up to capture stars more than anything, stupid mistake really with the moon being full(to much light to capture lots of stars) ah well you learn. i'm hoping to go back before the clocks go forward on a moonless night for maximum stars(and not getting home past midnight!)
It's tricky to just shoot one active subject.
Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F14, 1/250, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (2x) + a diffused MT-24EX (flash head "A" set as the key on a Kaiser Adjustable Flash Shoe and "B" as the fill). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.
I cut an Eggplant flower and used gaffers tape to secure it to a leaf so it would be in a good position and I'd have something to keep the background from being black. When they started feeding I wrapped my left hand around behind the leaf to keep it steady and then rested the lens on that same hand. Video of the "studio" youtu.be/ouS4h35UMS0

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.
And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.
Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.

I allowed the police to put me in the cell, I didn't feel like I needed to break free, there would of been nothing there when I would of gotten home. They put in one of the holding cells for the night and told me to get some rest, but I didn't. They took all of my guns and gear, I let them. The other cell mates shouted things at me, telling me they were going to kill me, I believed them. The next day I was put into a police van, the journey took two hours. I didn't know where I was going, but I did know that it would probably be the last time that I would see Gotham. When the van stopped, the police escorted me to an old building, pushing their way through the flood of the press. All of the journalist shouting "Mr Lawton! What do you have to say about being the world's greatest assassin?"I just stared at them. When I got inside I realized where I was, a court. This was obviously not one of Gotham's court, this one was clean. The police put me into the witness stand, whilst the judge came in. Then the court case begun. It started of with them listing all of my crimes the past few years, twenty seven cases of murder, sixty two cases of assault and one hundred and thirty five cases of robbery. I could of sworn I did more. Then came the prosecutor, blabbering on about what sentence I should get. I did not listen to what he had to say though, my mind was some place else.n my head was just a image of Blaze taking of her mask and underneath being Katrina, I was so sure it was. Bang! Went the judges hammer, waking me up from my dream. "I know declare," he began to say "that you Floyd Lawton, shall be sentenced to death, but the electric chair!" The crowd gasped in fear, shock, horror. I had no reaction, in fact I felt like I wanted to die, after all, what did I have left?
Hope you like it :D

I undertook a post graduate in Unix at St. Patrick’s College about fifteen years ago and it was an interesting experience. A few days after completing the course the company that I worked for was purchased by Banta and I was made redundant as the new owners did not require Unix expertise. The post-graduate which was very expensive was sponsored and paid for by the EU and at the time I had believed that I was attending Maynooth University rather than St. Patrick’s because I did not know that they were not the same.
St Patrick's College is the "National Seminary for Ireland" (a Roman Catholic college), and a Pontifical University, located in the village of Maynooth, 24 km from Dublin, Ireland. In 2015-16 there were approximately 80 men studying for the priesthood at Maynooth, 60 resident seminarians and approximately 20 non residents. The college and seminary are often referred to as Maynooth College. The college was officially established as the Royal College of St Patrick by an Act of Grattan's Parliament in 1795. Thomas Pelham, the Secretary of State, introduced his Bill for the foundation of a Catholic college, and this was enacted by Parliament.
Degrees are awarded by the Pontifical University at Maynooth, which was established by a Pontifical Charter of 1896. The Pontifical Charter entitles the university to grant degrees in canon law, philosophy and theology. The college is associated with the separate Maynooth University.
