This boarded up shotgun house may date to the early 20th Century. It would be nice to believe that it was saved and relocated for local historical preservation purposes.
Shotgun houses generally consist of a gabled front porch and two or more rooms laid out in a straight line. Rooms are directly connected without hallways. Shotgun houses may have derived their name from that room format, as it was sometimes said that a bullet shot from the front door would pass through the house without hitting anything and exit through the back door. However, the term may also be derived from togun, the Yoruba word meaning “house” or “gathering place.” Although shotgun houses are small, were inexpensively built, and generally lack amenities, they have been praised for their architectural virtues, which include the ingenious use of limited space and decoration such as gingerbread trim and brightly painted exteriors. They represent a unique African American contribution to architecture in the United States, dating from the early 19th century to the early 20th century.

This is more of a tribute to metal and hard rock in general than a single track, but I’ve rediscovered some classic albums during lockdown. Fade to Black was one of the first Metallica songs I heard back when I was at school in the 80’s and started a lifelong following.
The song itself is pretty deep, after reminding myself of the lyrics it’s all about suicide, so please don’t think it’s reflected in my mood!
Just last week I bought a cracking new pair of Bluetooth earphones that a are perfect for thrashing too whenever I get the chance! (Today while cleaning the bathroom)
I was going for the classic metal album cover look à la ‘The Black Album’ or ‘Black in Black, originally I shot a marble which was kind of cool, then I found this lump of iron pyrite which seemed to fit the theme perfectly!
The Ode to Joy was adopted by the Council of Europe as its anthem in 1972. ... It's a tune about peace: Ode to Joy represents the triumph of universal brotherhood against war and desperation. Indeed, Beethoven himself put to music a poem that praises and wishes for freedom and peace between all peoples.Feb 11, 2018

According to the current theme, group members were supposed to represent an adage in a photo. I chose "You've got to crack a few eggs to make an omelette", which means that if you want to achieve something, you often have to destroy something or make difficult sacrifices. I used an egg cup, a chocolate egg filled with colourful sweets and a teaspoon for the photo.

Best buddies??? ... Time will tell ... They both have eyes on the prize ... Mini-sandwiches are just waiting for the taking on the deck ... Both guys are so close to the outdoor deck a short distance across the yard ... Who's going to win or will they both get a share????

I remember taking this pic a couple of years ago. I was actually sitting in a parking lot, waiting for my brother to come out to the car, when the sky opened up like some kind of portal to heaven! I was entranced by the beauty of it, and took many shots, hoping to capture the splendor of it, but not a single one quite nailed it. Even with processing, what I saw in person far outshone the image my camera and I could render, but it's still beautiful.

So 2023 has got off to a good start despite the incessant rain because I remembered to take my hayfever prevention - that being a teaspoon of local honey before my breakfast.👍
This is an old Mass Path that is over 300 years old. Indeed it could date back to the 1600s which is the date of the original church it leads to. It runs between Kilcoole/Delgany and to the village of Kilquade to the church of St. Patrick. Families would have travelled the 3 miles along here on their way to church and back home again on Sundays long ago. There is a lovely feeling to it and Im sure it comes from the people and children away back then, who walked here with goodness and love in their hearts every Sunday and on holy days many years ago.
The path was cut in half by a new dual carriage way a few years back but the council kept the right of way open and built new access stiles to it on either side of the road as the locals were not prepared to see it closed. Good for them! The people still use the path for walking and exercising their dogs. They also maintain it and keep it trimmed back a bit but not too much as the wildness of it is in keeping with its character. It follows along by a small stream and to me it is a very special place. I often walk it and I did this morning.
Here is a link to the old church in Kilquade which has a great history and if I was religious, I think this is where I would go every Sunday but Id have to walk the old path like those good people all those many long years ago.

Wow! Im amazed how popular this photo is and its really such a simple thing. I didnt have a tripod so I took it hand held.
I had to take it at 4.5 and the best I could manage was 1/40th of a second. Ive steady hands luckily. Real photographers do it hand held!!!! Lol!
Its a great place and I like the history and the simplicity of it.
I think thats what people [You! ] like about it.
So a big thank you and hug to you all!

To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.
