CLARION ALLEY in SAN FRANCISCO is known for it's incredible GRAFFITI & MURAL SIZE STREET ART. The works change every so often, usually when some a-0's destroy a piece with dumb tags. It's worth coming down to the Mission/Valencia corridor to experience a long tradition of street art. This alley used to be just political inspired murals. Now the art runs a gambit of fun to political.. (HINT: lots of trendy restaurants on the connecting Valencia Street. Though the alley is not really safe at dusk/night)
This is the sign outside of a head shop at a market place in Suzhou (I think), China. It's taken with a longer exposure and camera movement. I wanted it to look like you were looking at it while under the influence.
The Avison Ensemble has performed many times at Nicholas Parish Church, Guisborough where we've enjoyed the beautiful medieval architecture and the wonderful acoustic.
We're celebrating our first anniversary of joining Flickr and want to show you the amazing venues we've played and recorded in during the year, most of them in the North East region and some in London. Thanks to all of you who've joined us for concerts in these beautiful venues and for looking at our photos. Here's to another great year coming up of concerts, images and films. Hope to see you soon and look forward to sharing more inspiring images with you ... Our next concert is in Bamburgh Castle and we've included some images of this stunning castle too!
The Avison Ensemble is the outstanding period instrument orchestra based in Newcastle upon Tyne, which plays and popularises the music of Charles Avison (1709-1770) and other English classical composers of the Baroque period, such as Garth, Arne and Herschel. The Ensemble also performs Purcell, Handel, Vivaldi, Corelli, Geminiani, Pergolesi, Teleman, Rameau, Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.
Various photographs taken with Canon Sure Shot Z135, Fujifilm 400 of New York/Times Square/Harlem, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Will make note of which city is photographed.
Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live here. : )

GRAND OPENING World Press Photo, Willy-Brandt-Haus, Berlin 2015
The Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus e.V., Gruner+Jahr and the magazines Stern and Geo present the photo exhibition.
A clear statement against the persecution of homosexuals in Russia has been voted the world's best press photo of the year. The jury of the World Press Photo competition awarded the prestigious prize to Danish photographer Mads Nissen. He photographed the gay couple Jon and Alex in an intimate moment in Saint Petersburg. The photo is part of a larger project by the photographer on the subject of “Homophobia in Russia”.
The jury justified its choice by stating that the photo impressively addresses a universal topic. Life in Russia is becoming increasingly difficult for homosexuals, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people. “Sexual minorities face legal and social discrimination, persecution and even violent hate crimes from conservative religious and nationalist groups,” the jury's report states.
“This photograph has great aesthetic power and shows humanity,” said jury chair Michele McNally, director of photography at The New York Times. “Violent images today are produced by terrorists for propaganda purposes. Our response to this must be more subtle,” said jury member Alessia Glaviano.
The jury selected the winners from around 98,000 photos from 131 countries. Prizes were awarded to 42 photographers in eight categories. The winning photos will be shown in an exhibition in Amsterdam from April and then in over 40 countries. They will be exhibited at the Willy Brandt House in Berlin from June 5 to 28.

I took a couple Times Square shots. Little did I realize, I actually took a way more pics of this tower than the tower on the other side.
I'll probably be experimenting with these pictures a little more.
Times Square shortly after the 2008 new year, i quite like the way the red neon reflects off the road. The colours in the glass of the building on the right are also quite cool.
Had to significantly lower the intensity of the neon, the neon is quite overpowering in HDR.
Manhattan is one of the most interesting and exciting places i have ever been, such a good spot for urban photography.
The image is surprizingly well aligned for a night HDR given that i just took a deep breath and held the camera as still as i could in my hands, i guess all the lights make it effectively like daytime.
I took this series of shots while the Times Square Ball was on display in Macy's Department Store in Manhattan.
From Wikipedia:
Each year on New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square in Manhattan, New York City, a time ball made of crystal and electric lights is raised to the top of a pole on the One Times Square building and then lowered to mark the coming of the New Year. The Ball descends 77 feet (23 meters) over the course of a minute, coming to a rest at the bottom of its pole at 12:00am. Toshiba's Times Square billboard directly below the Ball counts down to midnight as well.
Every year up to one million people gather in Times Square to watch the Ball drop, and an estimated 1 billion watch video of the event, 100 million of them in the United States.
