12"ceramic tiles on concrete in small cloakroom profile cut around pan

This was more of a test of the camera than anything else. I had a little fun tinkering with it in lightroom.

The late Richard Collins was a brilliant restorer of glass and ceramics, he was also a versatile artist. These two tiles were produced in the late 70s.

*Did I make it too crisp?*

Anyway, this is the application icon for Tiles. It gives a little more of a hint about what area or niche this app will fill. (sort of :p). It plays on a lot of little things that will be more obvious when the app is released.

Just like the logo it features tiles or pieces coming together which is a play on the main view mode of the application and some of the core animation effects that will be present.

I'm pleased with the 48px and 32px icon sizes in particular but, overall, I have some concerns that I made the edges dark and it makes the icons look very crisp and sharp?

Well, I have time to walk away from it for a little while and come back and tweak it again if I dont feel it is correct.

Oh and can you spot a little nostalgic nod to the past in these icons anywhere?

Right after 9-11 all kinds of memorials sprang up in NYC (and all over the world, too) and in Greewich Village on the corner of Greewich Ave and 7th Ave people began to use a fence as a backdrop to hang tiles that they'd made at a local craft shop to commemorate the people who had died in the World Trade Center.

There were inpromtu bulletin boards all over the city where pictures and names of missing loved ones and friends could be posted and sometimes there were only descriptions like a tattoo of a heart on her neck or she wore diamond studs to work that day. Those sad postings have long been worn away by the weather and time, but on this street corner these tiles still remain as vibrant as the day that they were hung. The plants that were arranged on a small plot of dirt in front of this fence have grown quite nicely but what strikes me about the area now is that the billboards though they change from time to time seem to look so totally out of place.

Section of roof tiles on the Mátyás Church in Buda. I may have given the impression with all my black and white shots that Budapest is a drab place, but it's not: it's bursting with colour.

This is the second time I visited this amazing, largely abandoned space in the centre of Jozi. I took a tripod and a Canon speedlite and a flashlight to explore some areas that are pitch dark in broad daylight.

This was the most amazing find for me since I started taking Urbex shots and I wonder if it has been photographed in recent times. This space was pitch dark and the wall tiles leaped out at me when I shone a flashlight into the rooms. The tiling is almost Moroccan and it actually is not in keeping with the rest of the concourse. I need to find out why these walls were tiled in these bright and striking colours
