For this picture I used an old, more or less acquired lens. It is a „Auto Beriflex 135 mm 1:2.8“ with M42 connector. "Beriflex" was a brand name of the Berlin company Beroflex AG. A system camera can be connected with a suitable adapter.

I didn't take this picture... it's of my daughter and her new friend... she's in the Bahamas and sent me this image... I thought it was too cute not to share!!
Pig Beach located on Big Major Cay is a beach on an uninhabited island located in Exuma, the Bahamas. The island takes its unofficial name from the fact that it is populated by a colony of feral pigs which live on the island. It has become a tourist attraction in modern times.

This Spotted Towhee and it's mate were lingering in a blackberries near where I'd settled to take some pictures of juncos. I gladly took advantage of the offering! At the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge.
This was shot one night later than the last post of Lost Lake, as the forecast looked much better for shooting the MW. This night, we lucked out with clear skies and no wind. The setting moon shed a little light on the mountain, which was the cherry on top!
This beautiful queen of the night cactus flowers between dusk and dawn. The flower is huge, short lived & has a nice fragrant.
This one is from my garden.
Thank for view and comment!

This old building is in the Jewish Quarter of Trebic, a town in Bohemia the Czech Republic, is one of the best preserved Jewish ghettos in Europe. It was listed in 2003 (together with the Jewish Cemetery and the St. Procopius Basilica in Trebic ) in the UNESCO World Heritage List and I believe it is the only Jewish monument outside Israel specifically placed on the List.
This was taken at the 28th Street Metro Cruise in Grand Rapids, last year.

Never changing, a view that has been seen over the many centuries. Interesting to see in this ageless shot the radar installation that guards the entrance to Plymouth RN base.

This is an image from the only day during our two-weeks-roundtrip around Iceland which I did not enjoy. We wanted to visit Aldeyjarfoss, a waterfall which is very tough to access in winter and early Spring but offers the most astounding setting within columnar basalt rock. The only day we had for doing so promptly brought weather misery. We got there only half way with our campervan, had to park kilometres away from the place, rescued four very silly young girls who I guess had recently made their driving license and had tried to access the waterfall with their 4x4 ending in terrible failure and them being stuck in an ice hole. After all that excertion we went on our hike to get to the waterfall, got lost in bad weather, poor visibility and snow that reached up to our waste soimetimes. In the end we only got short glimpses of the river and its strange volcanic rocklands but never reached the waterfall and were rather happy just to having made it back to our van :) And so it goes ... :p
I make this image public for getting an impression of the AVIF format (can be opened in the latest IrfanView, Chrome and Firefox): Link to AVIF in Google Drive
The AVIF image compression (in the HEIF container) is a very promising format as it provides good image quality in a very small package and is (in comparison to HEIC) free of any licenses. I hope Flickr as well as Google and Microsoft products will soon have full support for this innovation.
Besides the high compression efficiency the big advantage over JPEG is that a color depth per channel of 10 and even 12 bit is supported.
The uploaded JPEG is about 17MB in size, the AVIF 1.9MB.
This sample is generated using the avifenc.exe command line encoder for windows.
I used this parameters:
avifenc.exe --cicp 2/2/1 -r limited -y 420 -j 6 --min 30 --max 40 --minalpha 30 --maxalpha 40 in.png out.avif
The result is:
- 6 threads used (for my 6 CPU cores)
- to colorspace YUV420 (422 and 444 is not supported by the Windows AV1 extension)
- 12 bit per channel
In some of the first sunrays of the day CP 40B makes its way out of Minnesota City on the River Sub. This was a great chase that began up by Kellogg, MN and ended at Nahant Yard in Davenport, Iowa for about a total of 300 miles.
A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I went camping in Cunningham Gulch north of Silverton, CO, with some friends. The San Juans had just got their first dusting of snow on the mountain peaks and we were going to explore the Alpine Loop. It was fantastic weather, plenty of early fall colors with the bonus of snow tipped peaks. The overnight low the first night reached the low 20s, but the next day reached into the upper 60s. The one thing that would be the cherry on top to this trip was seeing a moose.
So, just as our day was coming to its conclusion, this guy appeared on the edge of a meadow near Howardsville, and he was kind enough to allow me a few snaps. but, he was pretty clear that I had come close enough.
