Howard County Library System (HCLS) celebrates cultures of the world and the diversity of our community at the 2017 Evening in the Stacks: An International Affair. This year’s glamorous night of colorful entertainment and enlightening insights featured an intriguing conversation with author Nadia Hashimi. Ms. Hashimi discussed her international bestselling work, The Pearl That Broke Its Shell along with her other novels set in Afghanistan, including her newest book A House Without Windows. Held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Charles E. Miller Branch & Historical Center.

This old shoe tree (is that what it's called?) was on the back of my bedroom door. Since I am not Emelda Marcos, I am using it to try and track my actual expenses, and make it as easy as possible. I just drop in receipts from the store, or take a "chit" from the CAB, BUS, TIP, or COLECTIVO pocket and drop that in. There are blanks for other categories, and oops, I forgot to add a pencil to the current month's pocket. On a tight retirement budget, everything depends on record keeping to construct and maintain an accurate budget.

I've set up an irrigation system to help for those days I'm not home, or not able to water the plants. Testing it now to see if it works properly...The waterbag, with a small tube attached to it.
I was amazed to see this in Gatwick airport recently. The screen was faded, so its a bit difficult to make out, but this childrens computer toy thingy was powered by an Amiga. Now for those of you without a high enough geek lore skill to understand that, I got an Amiga 600 for my Eight birthday, I'm now 22. This system is being powered by a computer which is 14 years old. What you can just make out on the screen at the moment is the boot screen, instructing the user to insert a floppy disk. Sadly it seems that either the disk drive is knackered, or possibly the disk itself.
Edited to add: A bit of googling, (Thanks to the commenters) reveals that the system has been modified to replace the floppy drive with a flash device, meaning the system should have no moving parts.
Like a an Windows machine, if I don't get system updates and regular reboots I get infested with viruses and malware and all manner of bad behavior. This hardware is flaky. In the past 24 hours I've rebooted.
