The Four Poster System is an application device for treating deer for tick infestations. The setup includes rollers with a mild pesticide solution and a bucket of corn, which deer love. The deer put their heads through the rollers to get a treat and ticks are eliminated from their hide. This system is being used on Fire Island National Seashore in New York.

The MK 15 Phalanx Close-In Weapons System (CIWS - pronounced "sea-whiz") is a fast-reaction, rapid-fire 20-millimeter gun system that provides US Navy ships with a terminal defense against anti-ship missiles that have penetrated other fleet defenses. Designed to engage anti-ship cruise missiles and fixed-wing aircraft at short range, Phalanx automatically engages functions usually performed by separate, independent systems such as search, detection, threat evaluation, acquisition, track, firing, target destruction, kill assessment and cease fire. Phalanx underwent operational tests and evaluation onboard USS Bigelow in 1977, and exceeded maintenance and reliability specifications. Phalanx production started in 1978 with orders for 23 USN and 14 Foreign Military Sales (FMS) systems.

 

Phalanx is a point-defense, total-weapon system consisting of two 20mm gun mounts that provide a terminal defense against incoming air targets. CIWS, without assistance from other shipboard systems, will automatically engage incoming anti-ship missiles and high-speed, low-level aircraft that have penetrated the ship primary defense envelope. As a unitized system, CIWS automatically performs search, detecting, tracking, threat evaluation, firing, and kill assessments of targets while providing for manual override. Each gun mount houses a fire control assembly and a gun subsystem. The fire control assembly is composed of a search radar for surveillance and detection of hostile targets and a track radar for aiming the gun while tracking a target. The unique closed-loop fire control system that tracks both the incoming target and the stream of outgoing projectiles (by monitoring their incoming noise signature) gives CIWS the capability to correct its aim to hit fast-moving targets, including ASMs.

 

The gun subsystem employs a gatling gun consisting of a rotating cluster of six barrels. The gatling gun fires a 20mm subcaliber sabot projectile using a heavy-metal (either tungsten or depleted uranium) 15mm penetrator surrounded by a plastic sabot and a light-weight metal pusher. The gatling gun fires 20mm ammunition at either 3,000 or 4,500 rounds-per-minute with a burst length of continuous, 60, or 100 rounds.

 

CIWS has been a mainstay self defense system aboard nearly every class of ship since the late 70s. It was originally designed to defeat low altitude antiship cruise missiles (ASCMs) and was called the block 0. As antiship cruise missiles became more complex in maneuvers and ability to be detected, and warfare areas moved from open ocean to littoral environments, CIWS has evolved to meet the threat.

 

Block 1 incorporated a new search antenna to detect high altitude missiles, improved search sensitivity, increased the ammunition available for firing by 50 percent, a pneumatic gun drive which increased the firing rate to 4500 rounds per minute, and started using tungsten ammunition as well as depleted uranium. Block I improvements provide increased elevation coverage, larger magazine space for increased round capacity, a variable and higher gun fire rate, and improved radar and processing capabilities.

 

Block 1A incorporated a new High Order Language Computer (HOLC) to provide more processing power over the obsolete general purpose digital computer, improved fire control algorithms to counter maneuvering targets, search multiple weapons coordination to better manage engagements, and an end-to-end testing function to better determine system functionality.

 

Block 1B Phalanx Surface Mode (PSUM) incorporates a side mounted Forward Looking Infrared Radar (FLIR) which enables CIWS to engage low slow or hovering aircraft and surface craft. Additionally, the FLIR assists the radar in engaging some ASCMs bringing a greater chance of ship survivability. Block 1B uses a thermal imager Automatic Acquisition Video Tracker (AAVT) and stablilization system that provide surface mode and electro-optic (EO) angle track. These Block 1B enhancements will allow day/night detection capability and enable the CIWS to engage small surface targets, slow-moving air targets, and helicopters.

 

Baseline 2C improvements provide an integrated multi-weapon operations capability. During integrated operations, the command system controls CIWS sensors, target reports, mode employment, and doctrine. The sensors are utilized to provide 360 degree search and track coverage, while providing track data to, and receiving designations from, the Command system. This CIWS installation includes a conversion kit for each weapon group to facilitate ease and safety of maintenance; the "maintenance enclosure" kit installs the below-deck equipment for a gun mount in a prefabricated enclosure with the mount located above it.

I admit I disliked fuji when it started. From the X100 to the XPro1, the camera system, despite its completely seducing color science output, was completely out of sync with my practice in terms of autofocus speed and file. Now the X system has matured into something that I find very hard to match for mirrorless camera photography.

  

The XT1 comes to solve pretty much all the problems I had with the system: AF and Camera Operations (once u get used to the nobs, hard to go back to menus) are reliable and quick, Lightroom 5.7 renders the file beautifully (with Classic Chrome) and the viewfinder is bigger than that of a full frame dSLR. Not only the camera is now a great camera, the lens system is superb in its consistency: the 14, 23 and 56 are great highly recommended lenses and perform equally marvellously in sharpness, colors and BOKEH while also looking darn good with the Fuji design language. Image quality wise, you get clean files at most of the modern ISOs 200-6400 (you can push the 6400 raw up to 12800 if u want without much penalty or color shifts).

  

The running cost of ownership is also even more interesting. The body goes for around 1K$ and the rest of the "super prime lenses" (you'd want to shoot prime with this one) go for 1k$ or less each. You can get yourself up and running for less than a full frame camera with equivalent quality lenses.The XT1 ain't still sunshine and rainbow though: It requires the extra grip to enjoy shooting with it, it is not light, the battery lasts as much as a film roll, you can't use exposure compensation on "manual" mode to shift the auto-ISO values, the RAW files are HUGE 30-40mb a piece, low-light AF works fast as long as you have a contrast zone to hunt for but then you also have a magnificent manual focus experience. Classic Chrome (also available in LR 5.7) redefines the fuji photography experience by offering a raw file free of color distorsions and true of natural colors as well as a butt load of great micro-contrast off the file.

  

All in all, I have to say that I fell in love with it. It is truly the best enthusiast mirrorless system I've come across and it's now well matured.

 

If you use a full frame dSLR: switching to fuji will depend if you want the premium lenses or the full frame IQ but can't afford the steep 2K$ per lens or 2-4K$ per body, also if you want to sacrifice the extensive "flash system" that dSLRs have.

 

If you are using a crop sensor dSLR: switching to fuji will depend if you want to keep investing in photography lenses and equipment and don't have to shoot unpredictable fast moving subjects, like birdies.

 

If you use a Sony: switching to fuji will depend if you are fed up with the teenage identity crisis unpredictability of the system's evolution (new tech = new "test" camera = no "conclusion" camera = less lenses for existing cameras = change the name). The A7 system will flourish to lead the mirrorless trend one day but before that day comes, you have at least until 2016.

 

If you use a m43 camera: switching to fuji will depend if are willing to drop a bunch of practical technical features: super fast AF (fuji is DARN FAST but m43 cameras are INSTANT FAST), video (I don't shoot video) or image stabilisation or clinical sharpness (fuji images are sharp! but not as pixel sharp as m43... I mean no camera is as pixel sharp as the m43 an) or the touchscreen af point selection... all this for an upgrade in image aesthetics that's a compromise of m43 compactness (somewhat) and passionated lens designs (m43's got good lenses but no "omg wow what the heck" lenses, sorry)

 

If you shoot film: This is IT. Film nobs, Film look, Film grain, Film output… on digital. This is fujifilm making a camera with the color science they apply on their negatives, all of it.

The investment project will finance the first of three prioritized corridors of the planned regional rapid transit system (RRTS) network in India's National Capital Region (NCR). The Delhi-Meerut RRTS will pass through the densely populated sections of the NCR, connecting Delhi to Meerut in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The 82-kilometer corridor will provide safe, reliable, and high-capacity commuter transit services between various locations along the corridor. The investment project will finance rail track, signaling, station buildings, and maintenance facilities. It will also support capacity and institutional development of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), a joint venture company of the Government of India and states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, that is mandated to implement the RRTS project across the NCR.

Juni 2023 kamen Auszubildende im Beruf Fachinformatiker*in Systemintegration aus dem ganzen Bundesgebiet im Berufsförderungswerk Leipzig zusammen und stellten sich in dem 14-stündigen Wettkampf Aufgaben auf höchstem Niveau. Dabei waren nicht nur fachliches Wissen, sondern auch Kompetenzen wie Stress- und Zeitmanagement gefordert.

 

Pascal Böhler, der bei der Computacenter AG & Co. oHG in Hamburg ein duales Studium im Bereich Fachinformatiker*in Systemintegration absolviert, konnte sich am Ende gegen die starke Konkurrenz behaupten und gewann Gold. Platz zwei sicherte sich Jamie Alexander Helmke (optimal media GmbH, Röbel/Müritz). Gleich drei Teilnehmende holten sich die Bronzemedaille: Johanna Lexau (PricewaterhouseCoopers GmbH, Hamburg), Cedric Gehrke (Gehrke Econ GmbH, Hannover) und Lucas Rother (Bechtle IT-Systemhaus Aachen).
