The BAE Systems Rapier Surface-to-Air Missile System was developed for the British Army to replace their outdated Towed Bofors 40/L70 Anti-Aircraft Guns. The system is unusual as it uses a 'Manual Optical Guidance System' sending Guidance Commands to the Missile in flight over a Radio Link, this results in a high level of accuracy, therefore a large Warhead is not required.
Entering service in 1971, it eventually replaced all other Anti-Aircraft Weapons in service with the British Army, both the Bofors Guns used against Low-Altitude Targets and the Thunderbird Missile used against Longer-Range and Higher-Altitude Targets. As the expected Air Threat moved from Medium-Altitude Strategic Missions to Low-Altitude Strikes, the fast reaction time and high maneuverability of the Rapier made it more effective than either of these Weapons, replacing most of them by 1977. Rapier was later selected by the RAF Regiment to replace their Bofors Guns and Tigercat Missiles. It also saw international sales, as of 2021, it was in the process of being replaced as one of the United Kingdom's Primary Air-Defence Weapons by Sky Sabre.
The first Rapier Units were delivered to the British Army in and the RAF Regiment 1971, in 1981 a new Rapier, FSB1 entered service. It had improved electronics and sensors, in 1990 FSB1 (M) was introduced with improvements to the Optical Tracker, Fire Unit and Radar Tracker. Rapier was at first a daylight fair weather Air Defence System, with the addition of the ''Blindfire'' Radar Tracker, Rapier became an all-weather night and day System.
Each Fire System can cover over 38.6 square miles of sky up to a height of 9,843ft, each Missile travels at over twice the speed of sound, and has a High-Explosive Warhead. During the Falklands War of 1982, Rapier Units were deployed to cover the beachhead at San Carlos, also used in the Gulf War of 1991 and the Iraq War of 2003.

For funzies. Pull the trigger back, and... let it go!
The launcher fires the ball successfully: it will remain airborne for about 1 ft after launch.
The smaller the piece to be fired, the further it will go... And the results would be even better if I could incorporate more springs...

The ramé-hart Automated Dispensing System (p/n 100-22) is a software-driven tool and control pump for creating single drops or dynamic drops such as required by advancing and receding and other dynamic studies. This hydraulic system uses disposable tips for multiple liquid studies and quick changes from one liquid to another. The system includes software, serial cable, stage adapters, one 250uL syringe (other sizes optionally available), and a set of disposable tips. The control software is embedded in both versions of the DROPimage software (Standard and Advanced) and is also available (stand alone) when used with non-ramé-hart products.

i've got this hanging over my bed now. found it at the dollar store near my place-- there were several colors available. think i might go back and get a couple more since they're only a buck.
A context free grammar with associated transforms in the plane and RGB space made these...
rules like
a -> bc
b -> bd
but never like:
d -> dd
each symbol is associated with a rotation, shift and scale in the plane, and a step in a direction in he RGB color space.
There are to real terminal symbols, termination occurs when the sub-tree would be less than a pixel in size, and the pixel at the resulting position is coloured.
Much like an L-System, I would say.
Actually because the tree overwrites itself in the image, does that make it context-sensitive, in that the result depends on other symbols? Certainly you need the image buffer as well as the stack to represent the process.

The Windows Boot configuration Data (BCD) store file contains some invalid information. WINDOWS 7
Answer from Google Gemini AI..
What does this mean on a failed reboot.... The Windows Boot configuration Data (BCD) store file contains some invalid information. WINDOWS 7
That message indicates that your computer's Boot Configuration Data (BCD) file has become corrupted or contains errors. The BCD is a critical file that tells your computer how and where to boot the Windows operating system. When it's invalid, the system can't find the necessary files to start Windows, leading to a failed reboot.
What is the BCD?
The BCD is a file that holds important boot-related information. Think of it as a map for your computer's startup process. . It tells the computer things like:
Which hard drive and partition to boot from.
The location of the Windows operating system files.
The boot menu options (if you have more than one operating system installed).
When the BCD file is "invalid," it means the map is unreadable or has wrong directions, so your computer gets lost during the boot process.
Why does the BCD get corrupted?
Several things can cause the BCD to become invalid:
Sudden power loss during a system update or file write operation.
Improper shutdown of the computer.
Hard drive failures or bad sectors.
Malware or virus attacks that target system files.
Installing a new operating system in a way that overwrites or corrupts the existing boot data.
How to Fix the Problem
The most common way to fix an invalid BCD is by using the Windows 7 installation or repair disc. Here's the general process:
Boot from the installation media. You may need to change the boot order in your computer's BIOS.
Choose "Repair your computer" from the installation screen.
Navigate to the System Recovery Options and select "Command Prompt."
In the Command Prompt, you can use specific commands to rebuild the BCD. The most common commands are:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd
These commands will scan your system for a Windows installation and rebuild the BCD file with the correct information, effectively creating a new, valid "map" for your computer to follow.
I just did a power reset....
When you perform a power reset, also known as a hard reset or power cycle, you're essentially clearing all temporary data from your computer's memory (RAM) and some peripheral devices. This is different from a simple restart or shutdown because it physically drains all power from the system, forcing it to reload everything from scratch.
How a Power Reset Works
A power reset involves three main steps:
Shut down the computer.
Unplug all power sources. This includes the AC power cord for desktops and the battery and AC adapter for laptops.
Hold down the power button for 15-30 seconds. This drains any remaining electrical charge from the capacitors on the motherboard and other components. .
Why do a Power Reset?
A power reset can fix various issues by clearing temporary glitches or corrupted data that a regular restart can't fix. It's often used when:
Your computer is frozen or unresponsive and a normal shutdown isn't possible.
Peripherals like USB devices, monitors, or keyboards are not working correctly.
The computer turns on but doesn't show anything on the screen (a "no POST" situation).
You are experiencing boot-related issues, as it can sometimes resolve minor conflicts that prevent the system from starting properly.
When NOT to do a Power Reset
While a power reset is a powerful troubleshooting tool, it's not a solution for every problem. It's not the same as a factory reset, which wipes your hard drive.
A power reset won't erase your files, but it also won't resolve software-level issues, such as corrupted drivers or a failing operating system. For those problems, you'd need to use software-based solutions like system restores or reinstallation.

07/10/25 Now the ebm died a few times powered off, and reset. Jiggled the SCSI plug, pulled the power cord off and performed a few reboots of the scanner.
All power to devices off overnight...
Made crunching noises a few times
Check SCSI PolarLight Shortcut not find a SCSI board!!!...... But SF Launcer does.... BUT no Adapter found when scan launched...
Finally got Holder recognised and doing a scan on the Neg holder, but SilveFast thought it was the slide holder.
went ahead to scan and the ebm crashed...
Restart with the large RED button failed!
The scanner is sitting, waiting with the amber light blinking.
Power on and bloody scanner crunching the holder again.
The ebm is DEAD ..
So go and have breakfast............................
I unplugged it, and it then booted up. Windows started!
BUT scanner won't load holder crunchers..... I gently forced the holder till it caught, and did a Scan of the Neg Holder with SilverFast, thinking it was a 4 slide Holder!
Then ran Overview gain with crunching noises... still only sees a "Slide Holder" and crunchers.... restart scanner. SF sill has the eject holder command and eject just crunches....
Doing a scan just crunches the gears of the holder. With thumb-holding the holder it shut up!
Overview is noisy... 'scanner not Ready"
Crounching of gears continues with the holder removed!!!!
Rebooted the scanner and the silent overview failed. won't even start. Overview command is visible..
11th Oct 2025
After a day's rest, restarted the ebm and Scanner OK
While scanning slides, the ebm crashed. I rebooted & It had recognised the slide holder, but would not scan a slide, just showed the empty slide space....and then I put the negative holder in and it loaded the B&W neg settings 12>8 Bit Greyscale!!
now scanned a few from Roll61.....

The system is based on 6 bike stations, respectively staffed by two employees in two shifts. Ecovolis program has proven successful in dramatically increasing bicycle use in Tirana, which, formerly, was a city without a developed bicycle culture. Ecovolis program is the first project in Albania that provides low-income adults with commuter bicycles as well as a donating program for children bicycles. The program recently completed two major steps, opening new bike stations in the city of Durrës and integrating Tourist Information Point Service to the bicycles stations' structure.
History
The Tirana Community Bicycle Albania project won financial support from the George Soros Open Society Foundation Albania (OSFA). An even larger contribution came from the US-based Pedal for Progress organization, which donated 450 bicycles. Sixty of these were used road bikes, which were modified and painted by local technicians to serve as public bikes in the Ecovolis scheme. Another portion was set aside to donate to children and to activists and volunteers at PASS. Still another portion were diverted to the project's Eco Bicycle Shop, a social enterprise which sells bikes for USD 50-150 and reinvests profits for the service and maintenance of Ecovolis bicycles. The main objective of the program was to introduce the community to an inexpensive, environmental friendly form of transport -- the bicycle; to sell used bikes at low prices; to donate bikes to the children of needy families and to PASS volunteers; to establish a bike sharing-scheme in the city (Ecovolis); and to employ financially disadvantaged people and young students to operate the bike-sharing scheme.
System
Each Ecovolis station is staffed by two employees in two shifts and contains 30 -- 60 bicycles. In order to use the bicycles it is required to provide a personal identification document (such as passport or ID card) or by subscribing to the Ecovolis membership Card.
The first black and red bicycles, (also the colors of the Albanian flag) were donated from US-organization Pedal for Progress, (which collect and donate used bicycles). As these bicycles were of different types, converting them for safe and comfortable public use took months of work. The price per bicycle varies from 60 US$ to 90 US$ each. The bicycle is equipped with a front bicycle basket, a behind carrier, a comfortable saddle and a public fender with the Ecovolis sign.
The bicycle stations also provide touristic information to the visitors and a list of the city attractions. Moreover, being a non-profit social enterprise, during particular days the program offers free bicycle service, cycling courses, donations of bicycles and helmets for children in need, bike tours and a bicycle recycle program.

Top: Linn Turntable of some sort.
2nd Shelf Left: CD Player; analog out ($20,000)
2nd Shelf Center: Network DAC; knows FLAC, MP3, AIFF, etc. The rep says it performs better than their CD player. I didn't ask the cost, but figure somewhere in the $20k range.
3rd Shelf Center: Analog Preamp
Bottom Shelf Left and Center: Power conditioners
The stack on the right consists of four 500 watt amplifiers each responsible for powering a single driver in the top most cluster of the right speaker and the bottom shelf is an electronic crossover. The cluster consists of a super tweeter, tweeter, midrange and mid bass.
Connection went something like this:
CD Player -> Preamp -> Crossover -> Amps -> Speaker
This was the best system of the show. Not by a long shot, but it was the best.
