The Morning Helena Switch (Y HEL0601 29 A) is in the process of setting out their cars at Helena Yard in Helena MT, March 29, 2018. MRL SD40-2XR was built for the C&NW in January 1966 as an SD40. Nikon F, f2 50mm, 1/500th at f5.6, Fuji Acros 100.
Just a simple shot I kind of like of this switcher framed up nicely between the short waving cane and the tall swaying palms.
Sunday morning dawned clear and dry so after a great Cuban breakfast I checked out the shop then drove down south of town for some morning shots of the east side of the Clewiston Mill, the beating heart of US Sugar Corporation and it's truly impressive rail operation. I hiked down from Davidson Road east of tracks along the levee a half mile or so where I could look west at Sugar Junction and the mill yard.
If you have a long lens this is a really cool spot to pull in some of the action and photograph locomotives that don't get out on the road. This 400mm telephoto shot illustrates how modern this railroad is with a solar panel and signal visible for a DTMF controlled power switch of which there are hundreds on this railroad. And it's also quite clear that no one is in the cab if this loco which is working a dump job at the mill and is being operated by remote control.
USSC 203 is an EMD MP15T blt. Oct. 1984 as Seaboard System 1214, which wore its same number on CSXT before coming here sometime after 2015.

Maryland Midland's UBHF pulls onto the Hanover Subdivision at Highfield with their pickup from the CSX local. Once the crew clears the switch in the distance, the CSX job will couple up to the cars that the Midland has left for them. After the local clears, the Midland will back up to clear the switch and then proceed east back to the yard at Union Bridge MD.

On a crisp and windy Christmas Eve, the Exshaw switcher pushes a cut back into the Lafarge cement plant at Exshaw after blocking their cars in the yard.
A former Southern Railway SD24 (SD9 now) works as a switcher at a grain elevator in Cozad Nebraska. At the time of this photograph the locomotive is 65 years old.
South Shore 801 switching Burnham Yard shortly after the 800's were assigned to the Gary Switcher in February 1975.

Closing out this mini-series of L516 doing some night work at New Richmond is this view with the conductor reporting on the radio after the moves have been made, all the switches restored, and the train put back together. I've been photographing SD60s about as long as I've been photographing railroads, they look great by day but also cut a fine profile at night. February 1, 2022.

The A&M Sand Switcher begins its day switching the various sand plants around Springdale and Rogers. The Monnett Turn and Rogers Local will go on duty within the hour followed by the Springdale Local later that morning. The Sand Switcher religiously uses #32, originally BRC #601 and one of six ALCO C424s delivered to the Belt.
A pair of UP MP15ACs (both originally MILW) slowly approach 9th St. while switching ARM-DAT in KC's West Bottoms. The actual office for ARM-DAT is off camera to the left, but this long-ago vacant building, which obviously was a bar or liquor store, provides a more interesting view, especially with the old Schlitz sign.
The track actually runs down the middle of State Line Rd (out of frame to the right), so depending on which side of the locomotive the crew would get off on, they would be either on the KS side or the MO side.
Pabst Brewing Company now produces Schlitz and Old Milwaukee.
A pair of IC geeps lead CN local L508 onto the single track at Byron, WI on the railroad's Waukesha Sub. The train will stop ahead to begin work at the Quad plant located here.
Bangor & Aroostook GP38s 82 & 83 are working in the yard at Searsport ME on September 16, 1991. Today's crew switched out the old friction bearing tank cars that were used for transporting diesel fuel. The Geeps were a 1967 delivery which involved the BAR trading in their two E7 passenger diesels towards the order. By this date, September 16, 1991, the 38s had now served the BAR longer than their E7 predecessors had.
