Stitch purchased 4.200 rockets, to be launched at midnight, as efficiently and with as little effort as possible. My recommendation was to bunch it up into a big pile, pour gasoline over it and light the lot. They didn't listen to me (I wonder why), but the result was rather spectacular nonetheless.
Another view of the #3 switch (to the right) into the Joseph Behr scrap yard off of the CN Freeport Subdivision. Notice the two yellow color guard rails bracketing the frog. These help to ensure that the wheels crossing the frog don't stray from their intended route. The small sign says "CN ENDS". In the background is the East Rockford control point / interlocking (CN M.P. 85.6W and IR M.P. 22.5) which is the location of the remote switch to the Illinois Railway lead. The IR can be seen coming in from the left. This is how the IR accesses the CN to switch Behr as well as the CN West Yard and the DM&E / IR yard which are just across the Rock River. This is also how the CP accesses the northbound ICE line at West Rockford. The CN curves to the right and passes under the dark structure visible just to the right of the signal heads. That is the historic Seminary Street timber stringer vehicle bridge built in 1901 and rehabilitated in 2008.
I lubed the switch with Krytox and the gold spring with Victorinox oil. To cap it off, I’m adding a clear switch top from Abo Studio.
