Sweep, sweep,

Chimney sweep,

From the bottom to the top,

Sweep all up,

Chimney sweep,

From the bottom to the top.

Climb by rope,

Or climb by ladder,

Without either

I'll climb farther.

Folkestone

There were many riots scaring streets and squares of screwedCITY, but none was as strange as "The Great Silent March" of potato farmers from Tuberosa Planitia. In the final act, the farmers (along with their urban supporters) gathered in sweep-A-BOO square wearing Matt Damon masks and demanding dismissal of McCullogh's ambitious plans of turning Tuberosa Planitia into concrete simulation of Mars landscape. Honoring screwedCITY tradition, protesters were brutally dispersed by S.R.C.S (Special Riot Control Squad) whose members, in this particular instance, were wearing Ridley Scott masks.

Normally, sweep-A-BOO square is one of the most desolate spots in screwedCITY. Overlooked by pentaCRAMMED depots it offers nothing more than scenery of Cold War paranoia valued only by stranded Buckminster Fuller impersonators...

I photograph a lot of different kinds of abandoned vintage transportation at night. Abandoned aircraft, trains, buses, trucks. But never a street sweeper. Until now. This is a 1926 Austin Street Sweeper. In the late 1880s, street sweepers performed an important function given the constant horse droppings. During this time, the first mechanized sweeping systems were developed, with a water sprinkler dampening the dirt and debris to reduce dust flying. This four-cylinder street sweeper grew out of that, and included not only the water spray system but a gutter broom and a large rotating rear broom. Although almost 100 years old, the design is not so different from the street sweepers of today. I lit this amazing vehicle with warm white light using a handheld ProtoMachines LED2 light painting device during the exposure. This was located at the Motor Transport Museum near the border of Mexico. This may appear in my second book of night photography that I am working on now. Thank you for looking!
