Geiranger is a small tourist village in Sunnmøre region of Møre og Romsdal county in the western part of Norway. It is in the municipality of Stranda at the head of the Geirangerfjorden, which is a branch of the large Storfjorden. The nearest city is Ålesund. Geiranger is home to spectacular scenery, and has been named the best travel destination in Scandinavia by Lonely Planet. Since 2005, the Geirangerfjord area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Seven Sisters waterfall is located just west of Geiranger, directly across another waterfall called "The Suitor." Norwegian County Road 63 passes through the village. Geiranger Church is the main church for the village and surrounding area.

Excerpt from audeladupaysage.com:

The small yellow houses of the city were built in the 18th century. They are a mixture of Danish and Dutch influences (many Dutchmen settled in the surrounding area in the 16th century to exploit farmlands).

The rocks at Cannon Beach, like Haystack Rock, are primarily basalt sea stacks formed from ancient volcanic lava flows that intruded into marine sediments. Over millions of years, erosion and geologic uplift exposed these formations, which are now surrounded by marine life and protected as a National Wildlife Refuge. The surrounding area also features other sedimentary rocks and features, such as ashflow tuff and conglomerates, which can show signs of alteration and contain minerals like pyrite and agate.

Close up of the forest surrounding the lake. It is a mix of evergreen and deciduous trees.

The main purpose of the CBET (community-based ecotourism) in Yeak Laom is to conserve the forest and the lake that are important for Tampuan people in the surrounding areas, which is roughly consistent with the needs of tourists who want to visit a pristine forest and an beautiful lake.

The entrance fee to the lake goes to the Yeak Laom community, and the community members manage the lake and the surrounding forest. They can also sell handicrafts and foods in designated areas. This arrangement has worked well so far for more than two decades.

Coloured leaves on a Maple branch amid greenery of the surrounding brush .

Captured this image on Sunday afternoon about 40 minutes before sunset on my first pelagic trip of the year. The sheer amount of birds was the most I've ever seen on one of these trips, with roughly several thousand great shearwaters alone surrounding the boat for almost 2 hours. I only saw a few individuals of this species amongst the many greats, and it was a fun challenge trying to track them through the enormous flock.

This photo was taken on a trail along the ridge surrounding Kamakura, which leads from Hasedera to Zeniarai Benten (銭洗弁天). The trail is poorly marked, partly very narrow and steep; therefore not for everyone.

Kamakura was the site of Samurai's first government called Kamakura Bakufu (鎌倉幕府). Bakufu is usually translated to Shogunate but literally means "temporary headquarters during a military campaign (府) partitioned by curtains (幕). Shogun (将軍 shougun) means "commander in chief."

Kamakura is open to the Sagami Bay in the south but protected by steep mountains in other three directions. Kamakura was chosen for the headquarters from a military point of view, more specifically, its advantage in defence against the attacks from the outside.

The Minamoto clan that established the first shogunate descended from an imperial linage. In this sense, they were aristocrats. They specialised in military matters and came to be regarded as a head of warriors from Samurai clans and thereby increased political presence in the imperial court in Kyoto and finally overwhelmed the emperor.

The official title of Minamoto no Yoritomo (源頼朝 1147-1199), the first shogun, awarded by the imperial court was "Commander in Chief of the Expeditionary Force against the Barbarians (征夷大将軍)." But the title was over-interpreted to authorise his status as the head of Samurai clans and further the acting head of Japan.

The area surrounding the bay itself, also called Marina Bay, is a 360 hectare extension to the adjacent Central Business District. It is also the new downtown of Singapore built on reclaimed land. In the reclamation process, Telok Ayer Basin and Inner Roads was removed from the map by reclaiming land, while the Singapore River's mouth now flows into the bay instead of directly into the sea.

Day 6 - After a short hike to the west end of the Peedee Trestle you catch your breath and wait. After a few minutes the chaotic rumble of 60 year old locomotives is your first clue that the train is approaching. Then a hint of exhaust, distinguished from the surrounding mist by its blue color, drifts over the pine forest. The rails reflect a golden light and the magic is soon upon us. Two former Milwaukee Road locomotives lead the St Maries River Railroad Plummer Turn across Peedee Creek on a bridge that once carried the Milwaukee mainline through these mountains. This was quite the experience.

AMALIA GLACIER

We follow Estero Peel until we come to Amalia Glacier, located in the middle of the

Southern Ice Field - the third most important fresh water reserve in the world. It’s

elongated silouhette seems to fall off the mountains, and is an incredibly beautiful

sight. Its ice tower and the contrast of its coloured ice against the mountains are

spectacular. Amalia Glacier has an approximate width of some 2.5 kilometres and an

elevation of 70 metres. The most important part of this ice mass is fed by the heavy

snowfall that affects the region during most of the year.

Its colors are of gorgeous azure hues. This glacier is

enormously important for science as it has a volcano that rises from its very centre.

This is Mount Reclus, which is a total mystery to volcanologists because of its location

and behaviour.

The life guard towers designed by the architect Arne Jacobsen, standing tall against a breathtaking backdrop. These sleek and minimalist structures, with their clean lines and distinctive shape, harmoniously blend with the surrounding natural beauty.

“For me, a landscape does not exist in its own right, since its appearance changes at every moment; but the surrounding atmosphere brings it to life - the light and the air which vary continually. For me, it is only the surrounding atmosphere which gives subjects their true value.”

Since 2014 in China, bookstores—both private and state-run—prominately display the leader’s official writings, now published in multiple volumes and translated into numerous languages.

In this photograph, between the leader's glorious works (the white-covered volumes on the left) and the red-bound books on the right documenting his glorious experiences and achievements, the guy on the floor is absorbed in a mobile game. What I couldn’t capture in this photo was another man dozing off behind me.
