Ostgals (“Port end”) district west of Old Town is a collection of low rise homes. Some of them are especially old (as are the narrow cobbled streets). Once the district was inhabitted by dock workers, but today it is also liked by the local elite.
A quiet part of Ventspils, which began to form after the invitation expressed by the Russian government in 1836 and the announced advantages for the surrounding farmers to settle down in the dune belt, in order to prevent the city from becoming dusty with sand. Also it has been a village for fishermen. Nowadays, it is a unique, romantic environment with cobbled quiet streets, attractive 19th century. wooden construction and essential pelargoniums in the windows. Ostgal has been recognized as a monument of urban construction of national importance. In 2009, after a large-scale reconstruction, the city's Theater House "Jūras vārti" provides a buzz in Ostgal. Throughout the year there will be concerts, exhibitions, theater performances, celebrations and balls.
The church is always visible due to the open space surrounding it, while the bare trees are further away. I specially went to the back of the church to capture the scene with the bare trees.
Glad Påsk ,wishing you a wonderful Easter filled with love and joy

Thank you for the faves and comments
It truly means so much to hear from you ..
This male yellow warbler was very hard to see since it blended in so well with those surrounding wild grape leaves that were turned yellowish in the soft morning sunlight.
The hunting lodge, which dates back to a hunting lodge from the 16th century, was given its current appearance in the 18th century under Augustus the Strong.
In the years 1542–1546, Duke Moritz had his hunting lodge furnished with hunting trophies in the Renaissance style. The castle was later named after him, the original name was Dianenburg. The hunting lodge at that time already consisted of four thick round towers, which were connected by a surrounding defensive wall.
Another clue to my theme of the week. Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. Thank you for your comments and for those who made a guess yesterday! Another clue: This name references the raids that took place on Florida's Gulf Coast during the 17th century? I am looking for a particular name having to do with pirates.
The Castillo was originally built to act not only as a refuge for the townspeople but also as a military warehouse. Construction began in 1672 and is one of the oldest standing structures in North America.
Happy Wall Wednesday!
I found this seagull perched on a post leading out to the rougher waters of the area surrounding Venice. There were boats by each home or building there because after all it is only one of two ways to navigate Venice. The other is by walking.

Located on the River Thames in the London Borough of Southwark, this is part of a larger development called More London, including offices and shops.
This sunken amphitheatre called The Scoop is used in the summer months for open-air performances; The Scoop and surrounding landscape were designed by Townshend Landscape Architects.
The countryside surrounding Grenoble is fabulous. It is very lush, fresh, very green, and enveloped with mist most of the time. I wish you a wonderful day!
A visit to the Elan Valley in the spring is a fine day out. The surrounding hills are remote, wild and very soggy at the best of times, so after a thaw and then a lot of Spring rain the water pours down from the hills and fills the reservoirs to the point of spectacularly overflowing. Graig Goch is the top dam of the Elan Valley series, and is perhaps the finest with its elegant curve and arches - the best example of Birmingham
Baroque! The dam is 156m wide and 36m (118 feet) high, so when the water is overflowing it is a sight to behold.
I know it is a bit of a postcard shot - but when the view is this good, why not? For anyone going to photograph the dams in full flow, the morning is best to catch the sun on the water.
This coyote has given me some great photo opportunities lately. He has been seen in a cemetery that also has fields, woods, and a swamp area surrounding it.
London – In and around Brick Lane
This collection of images was taken in and around Brick Lane, London. This is an area full of New and Old Architecture, Markets, People, Graffiti, Doors, Churches and much more.
This selection is mainly Graffiti, Doors and Shop Fronts. I have made up some frames out of Doors, Walls and Other Material, hope they fit the purpose.
This is the first of a number of postings.
It is next to the bridge. This is not an embassy. Above the boat you can see the pub where you get “Gaffel Kölsch”. It is named "Ständige Vertretung". There you can drink beer which is normally only brewed in Cologne. But a lot of people have moved from Cologne and its surrounding to Berlin after Berlin became the capital of Germany. So they can drink its beer and meet people from home. If you visit Berlin sometime, you should drink a beer there. You can sit there directly at the River Spree.
It was a sunny day but the bad weather was coming.
Hello there! I hope all is well my friends! A new week is upon us! I am here featuring West Village by Apple Fall with the Belgravia skybox. It's the newest item/build at the mainstore! The crown molding and extra attention to detail make this the perfect chic home. It also comes with a skydome that gives it a bright and airy feel. Many of the items/decor in this home are from Apple Fall. I wanted to use a mixture of my favorite new items and older ones to give a cozy feeling in a home filled with treasures. I was inspired by the intricate detailing of the moldings on the walls and surrounding the entry ways. I have full details and credits on this space listed on my blog. Feel free to have a look! Thank you so much for the support! I wish all of you a blessed day and week ahead. xoxo <3333 Ebony

Ynys Giftan Island
Ynys Giftan Island is situated in the Dwyrd
Estuary in a rural location overlooking the
picturesque town of Portmeirion and provides
panoramic views of stunning coastline,
mountains and the Irish Sea. The Island is
approximately 3 miles from the popular town
of Harlech and 10 miles from the town of
Porthmadog. It is accessible by boat at high tide
and at low tide by foot, tractor or other suitable
vehicle for traveling across the Estuary.
One of only 43 of Britain’s unbridged tidal
islands, Ynys Giftan is in the wide Afon
Dwyryd estuary near the village of Talsarnau
in Gwynedd, North Wales. The Island has been
unoccupied for many years and has a unique
history. It is said to have been gifted to the
current Lord Harlech’s ancestors by Queen Anne
in the early 1700s, hence it became known as
Ynys Giftan (‘Anne’s Gift Island’).
I took the shots of this wonderful group of five trees yesterday at sunset. The group with this wonderful clouds and the surrounding is a highlight of my franconian experiences. We were lucky with this remarkable sunset and the nice weather.
This pano was stitched from 6 single shots.
The Elora Mill Gardens....
This is a shot of the gardens surrounding the mill in Elora Ontario. the restoration and conversion of the Old Mill on the Grand River is now mostly complete. The old mill turned into a restaurant and inn; the surrounding property and gardens lovingly renewed with flower gardens. such a vast improvement from the neglect of the last thirty years.

Stolzenfels Castle (German: Schloss Stolzenfels) is a castle in the Middle Rhine Valley in Koblenz. It stands on the left side of the Rhine opposite the mouth of the Lahn above the Stolzenfels district named after the castle. The complex was finally developed in the 19th century by the Prussian Crown Prince Frederik Willem and dates back to a Keur-Trier toll castle from the 13th century, which was destroyed in 1689. The neo-Gothic castle is the most beautiful building of the Rhine Romanticism, an art and culture movement within Romanticism in which the river landscape of the Rhine and the legends and myths surrounding the history of the GermanRhine Valley emerged, were central and exerted a major influence on German Romanticism. The complex also includes the so-called Klausenburg in the valley of the Gründgesbach, which housed the stables, staff houses and guest houses, and a 9-hectare landscape park. About 50,000 tourists visit the castle every year.

This is one of my favourite places in Cornwall. Lerryn is a delightful little village that sits each side of the River Lerryn, which feeds into the River Fowey a few miles south of Lostwithiel. Much of the surrounding countryside is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is heavily wooded and there are very pleasant walks to be had along the river banks. When the tide goes out the river simply becomes a small stream, leaving small boats stranded on the mud.
This is a macro of the center of a California Poppy. They grow in clumps near the waterfront, including in the medians of the roads.
Stunning late afternoon light illuminated this Hare casting a wonderful glow over the animal and the surrounding grassland
After our unscheduled tea party, and to fill a yawning gap, Jennifer said there are spectacular caves in the surrounding mountains, and so it was we were taken to the foot of a mountain. There we were loaded into a monorail train for a steep climb up the hillside at our own expense. The alternative was to walk up the mountain, but we all saw how steep was the climb and wisely elected to take the monorail instead.
At a station somewhere up the side of the mountain we disembarked and were ushered past a pay desk and into the Reed Flute Caves. They’re so named because reeds growing outside the caves are easily made into flutes. Inside the caves the light was dim, the temperature cool and the floor wet. Health and Safety, what health and safety.
The cave tour took the best part of an hour. The caves were lit with coloured lights, weird and wonderful shapes were described in the stalactites and stalagmites, it was better than the tea plantation, and way better than elephant trunk mountain and the lovers park. For me the highlight was an underground lake bathed in blue lights. Always read the itinerary and be suspicious of unexplained gaps.
It was a hazy day in Palm Springs... not great conditions for taking pictures. At least not until the sun got low enough to show the layers in the surrounding mountains.
This photograph was taken in August from High Street Car Park looking towards Parliament House (in the foreground) and surrounding landmarks.
The fireworks on the left of the photograph were released from the Padang (open field facing Singapore National Gallery, with the distinctive top). Other fireworks were released from Marina Bay, with these fireworks seen above the Parliament House and in front of Marina Bay Sands.
Monument Valley, Utah, an iconic symbol of the American West, is the sacred heart of the Navajo Nation and the ideal setting for your next adventure in the warm, high desert climate of southeastern Utah. In some ways, Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is the definitive West.
The valley is host to towering sandstone rock formations that have been sculpted over time and soar 400 to 1,000 feet above the valley floor. Combined with the surrounding mesas, buttes, and desert environment, it truly is one of the natural wonders of the world.
Stay the night and step out after dark to appreciate the timelessness and wonder of the Milky Way and the brightest stars in the sky.

On the skyline can be seen Jubilee Tower, which sits atop Darwen Hill. Completed in 1898 the tower was built to commemorate both Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, as well as a victory won by local folk granting them the right of access to the surrounding moors.
A shot that was discovered recently while clearing out old unused images. I figured this one still had some interest value.

Female spiders produce either one egg sac containing several to a thousand eggs or several egg sacs each with successively fewer eggs. Females of many species die after producing the last egg sac. Others provide care for the young for some period of time; these females live one or, at most, two years. Females of the mygalomorph spiders may live up to 25 years and those of the primitive haplogyne spiders up to 10 years.
The protective egg sac surrounding the eggs of most spiders is made of silk. Although a few spiders tie their eggs together with several strands of silk, most construct elaborate sacs of numerous layers of thick silk. Eggs, which often have the appearance of a drop of fluid, are deposited on a silk pad and then wrapped and covered so that the finished egg sac is spherical or disk-shaped. The females of many species place the egg sac on a stalk, attach it to a stone, or cover it with smooth silk before abandoning it. Other females guard their egg sacs or carry them either in their jaws or attached to the spinnerets.
I found this Four-spotted Pennant Dragonfly checking out what I think is a Spiders Egg Sack at Joe Overstreet Landing in Osceola County, Florida.
Plas Newydd, Address: Plas Newydd, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey , LL61 6DQ
Plas Newydd Coordinates.....Latitude: 53° 12' 9.36" N
Longitude: -4° 12' 57.60" W
Plas Newydd is a country house set in gardens, parkland and surrounding woodland on the north bank of the Menai Strait, in Llanddaniel Fab, near Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey, Wales. The current building has its origins in 1470, and evolved over the centuries to become one of Anglesey's principal residences. Owned successively by Griffiths, Baylys and Pagets, it became the country seat of the Marquesses of Anglesey, and the core of a large agricultural estate. The house and grounds, with views over the strait and Snowdonia, are open to the public, having been owned by the National Trust since 1976.
The house site was first occupied in the 13th century, and was known as Llwyn-y-Moel. By 1470 it belonged to the Griffith family, who also owned Penrhyn Castle near Bangor. Gwilym ap Griffith had acquired substantial Anglesey holding from his marriage to Morfydd, daughter of Goronwy ap Tudur of Penmynydd. Robert Griffith built the earliest parts of the current house in the early 16th century, creating a hall-house.
The Menai Strait (Welsh: Afon Menai, the "river Menai") is a narrow stretch of shallow tidal water about 25 km (16 mi) long, which separates the island of Anglesey from the mainland of Wales. It varies in width from 400 metres (1,300 ft) from Fort Belan to Abermenai Point to 1,100 metres (3,600 ft)

The day is drawing to a close around Widdop Reservoir . Widdop is a remote and beautiful area of moorland between Hebden Bridge and Burnley. The area has a wild and colourful setting of boulder-strewn bracken-clad slopes topped by millstone grit crags. Surrounding the reservoir on all sides are numerous small crags and boulders, which offer some excellent climbing and bouldering.

The Chapel on the Rock (officially, Saint Catherine of Siena Chapel) is a tourist landmark in Allenspark, Colorado, USA. The chapel is located on the grounds of the Saint Malo Retreat, Conference, and Spiritual Center of the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver which has been closed since November 2011.
In 1999 Boulder County designated the chapel as a historic site.
Pope Saint John Paul II prayed at the chapel during his visit to Denver for World Youth Day in 1993; he blessed the chapel afterwards. The pope later hiked in the surrounding woods and spent some time at the Saint Malo Retreat Center.
In November 2011 the Chapel on the Rock was spared from a devastating fire that destroyed a majority of the retreat center, forcing it to close its doors.
During the rock slides of September 2013 the Chapel on the Rock survived, though much of the surrounding terrain was destroyed

Except it's not. Just another shot of the old power plant that's been turned into a little village inside the city of Austin. As you can tell, I'm really taken by it. If I still lived in Austin, I would want to live here.
The Seaholm Power Plant was commissioned in 1948 to meet Austin's growing demand for electric power. The engineering firm Burns & McDonnell designed the complex, which was constructed in two phases in 1951 and 1955. The facility originally included a Turbine Generator Building, a Water Intake Structure and an Oil Heating Building. A guard booth and a storage building were added to the site later. Originally called "Power Plant No. 2," on 2 June 1960 the plant was renamed posthumously for Walter E. Seaholm, a prominent figure in the administration of Austin’s municipal utilities.[2]
Seaholm served as Austin’s sole source of electric power from 1950 to 1959, until demand outpaced the 120 megawatts the plant could generate with all five boilers running. As other stations were built the city's reliance on Seaholm waned, and in 1989 the plant stopped providing power to the city, though it was used as a training facility until 1996, when it closed entirely.[3]
Redevelopment[edit]
The site lay dormant until 2004, when the Austin city council requested proposals for redevelopment partners. Several firms and consultancies formed an organization called "Seaholm Power, LLC" which was designated in April 2005 to lead redevelopment of the defunct power plant and the surrounding site.[4] A master development agreement was reached with the city in April 2008 specifying the renovations and new construction that would be undertaken.[5]
Work began on the plant's redevelopment in mid-2013.[6] The interior of the turbine generator building was converted to a mixture of office, retail and restaurant space, with tenants occupying the facility beginning in 2015.[7] A residential tower called Seaholm Residences was constructed at the west end of the site, also opening in 2015. As of 2018, the city has not selected a final plan for the redevelopment of the water intake facility.[8]
A White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) buck is constantly aware of all things in our surrounding habitat as a matter of survival and in matters of reproduction. At this time of the year it is close to the breeding season for these animals and they are tentatively looking for a mate on the National Bison Range near St. Ignatius, Montana, U.S.A.
