With most of Monrovia and the surrounding areas under King International and Lotus control the situation is starting to dull. A little over a week has passed sense the initial conflict, and PALM resistance in the area is waning. KI and Lotus forces are approaching the PALM insurgency in the area with extreme prejudice and thus far it seems to be quite affective in suppressing terrorist activity, not only in Monrovia but also in the surrounding provinces.

With the release from PALM occupation the area is finally returning to a state of normality, the civilian death toll is finally starting to drop and while there is a long road to recovery, the first steps have been made.

Key deer (odocoileus virginianus clavium), the smallest of all white-tailed deer, is a subspecies of the Virginia white-tailed deer. These deer inhabit Big Pine Key and various surrounding keys. They are not found anywhere else in the world.

Due to uncontrolled hunting and habitat destruction, their numbers were estimated less than 50 animals in 1940's. With the establishment of National Key Deer Refuge in 1957 and intensive law enforcement efforts, the population has since increased and has now stabilized. The estimated population is approximately 600 deer on Big Pine Key and No Name Key (this does not include other keys in the deer's range).Highway mortality is the greatest known source of deer loss.

The shoulder height of Key deer is between 24-28 inches. Does weigh 45-65 pounds while bucks weigh 55-75 pounds.

Rutting season activities begin in September, peaking in early October and decreasing gradually through November and December. Some breeding may occur as late as February. The gestation period is 204 days with fawns born April through June. At birth fawns weigh 2-4 pounds.

Antlers are dropped February through March, and re-growth begins almost immediately so that by June, bucks with 2-inch stubs are seen. Antler growth is completed by August, and velvet is rubbed and kicked off in early September.

Key deer feed on native plants such as red, black and white mangroves, thatch palm berries and over 150 other species of plants. Key deer can tolerate small amounts of salt in their water and they will also drink brackish water, but fresh water is essential for their survival. They must also have suitable habitat to ensure their future existence.

No records exist documenting the origin of the deer in the keys. It is believed the deer migrated to the keys from the mainland many thousands of years ago, across a long land bridge. As the Wisconsin Glacier melted, the sea rose dividing the land bridge into small islands known as the Florida Keys.

The earliest mention of Key deer is found in the memoirs of Fontaneda, a shipwrecked Spaniard held captive by the local Indians. Records suggest that the deer were found around Key West and were used for food by residents and ship crews alike. Although early records indicated sporadic wider distribution of Key deer throughout the lower keys, current data indicates they occupy a range from Johnson Keys to Saddlebunch Keys.

Hereford, and its surrounding colourful patchwork of agricultural fields, is featured in this Copernicus Sentinel-2 image.

Hereford, which is the county seat of Deaf Smith County in Texas, is widely known for its agriculture industry. Known as the beef capital of the world owing to its large number of cattle fed, Hereford can be spotted in the centre-bottom of the image. The area is known for its semiarid climate, with heavy farming and ranching sustained by irrigation from the Ogallala Aquifer – a massive underground reservoir spanning eight landlocked states.

A variety of crops are grown in the area including corn, wheat, maize, soybeans and onions. Circular shapes in the image are an example of centre-pivot irrigation systems, where equipment rotates around a central pivot and crops are watered with sprinklers. This type of irrigation helps farmers manage their watering demands as well as help conserve their precious water sources.

This composite image over the High Plains in Texas was created by combining three separate Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) images from the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission spanning from 17 March to 21 April 2019.

Shades of red, yellow and green depict changes in vegetation growth at the beginning of the season. Black patches of land indicate very low vegetation for the season, while white signifies a high level of vegetation during these dates. The Normalised Difference Vegetation Index is widely used in remote sensing as it gives scientists an accurate measure of health and status of plant growth.

The US Route 60 can be seen cutting across the bottom-right of the image. The motorway is a major east-west US route, which runs over 4200 km from southwest Arizona to the Atlantic Ocean coast in Virginia.

The Thuya Garden and surrounding land is a wonderful blend of semi-formal English border beds and indigenous eastern Maine woodlands situated on a granite hillside overlooking Northeast Harbor. Visitors by sea can tie up at Asticou Terraces Landing and walk up the 1/4–mile Asticou Terrace Trail to the garden and lodge, passing the Joseph H. Curtis Memorial and enjoying the views from several lookouts along the way. Parking is available at the landing and at the top of Thuya Drive. The construction of Thuya Lodge began in 1912 and was completed in 1916 by Joseph H. Curtis who summered there until his death in 1928. Thuya Garden was created by Charles K. Savage beginning in 1956 through 1961 on the land that was formerly Mr. Curtis’ orchard. The garden's herbaceous borders are a pleasing mixture of colorful annuals and perennials defining the two sides of an expanse of grass lawns leading to the upper pavilion at the northern end and a shallow reflecting pool at the southern end. The Entrance Gates, pictured to the right, were designed by Charles K. Savage and hand-carved in cedar by Mr. Savage and Augustus D. Phillips. Many of the Soderholtz vessels were originally part of Beatrix Farrand's collection at Reef Point in Bar Harbor. [Source: gardenpreserve.org/thuya-garden/index.html]

Thuya Garden is a gorgeous flowering garden located on a granite hillside overlooking Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine. It was originally designed and built in 1956 - 1961 by Charles K. Savage, a long-time resident of Northeast Harbor, along with financial support from John D. Rockefeller. The garden exhibits an English style influence with special input from Beatrix Farrand so that it will incorporate the unique character of the Maine coast. A variety of annuals and perennials line the two long sides of the garden. An open observation pavilion sits at the top of a slight incline on the north end overlooking the main garden that cascades down to a shallow reflecting pool below. Thuya Lodge was constructed from 1912 - 1916 by summer resident Joseph H. Curtis, its owner and Boston based landscape architect. The garden was constructed in an orchard also owned by Curtis. A memorial in his honor is located part way up the Asticou Terrace Trail. Thuya got its name from the abundance of white cedar (Thuya Occidentalis) located in the area. It is a popular beach and the name of the surrounding suburb in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Bondi Beach is located 7 km east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Waverley Council, in the Eastern Suburbs. Bondi, North Bondi, and Bondi Junction are neighbouring suburbs. Bondi Beach is one of the most visited tourist sites in Australia. The sweeping white-sand crescent of Bondi is one of Australia’s most iconic beaches. Reliable waves draw surfers while, nearby, hardy locals swim in the Icebergs ocean pool year-round. Trendy, health-conscious Sydneysiders head to laid-back cafes around Hall Street, while hip backpackers frequent the area's casual pubs. Walkers and joggers use the clifftop Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk, with its dramatic scenery. 8018

Moose of Grand Teton

Moose are the largest member of the deer family and love cold weather. They frequent marshy meadows and edges of lakes and streams. About 800 Moose inhabit the southern part of Yellowstone, Grand Teton National Park and surrounding national forests. Moose are most heavily concentrated in Grand Teton Park.

To keep from sinking in mud while feeding, as the animal lowers its foot, a large dewclaw spreads to better support the weight. Similarly, the odd-looking crook of the hind leg allows a Moose to pull the leg straight up, more easily releasing it from deep, sucking mud.

Bull Moose lose their antlers anytime between December and March. Most of the Moose drop them in January. Immature bulls may not shed their antlers for the winter but retain them until the following spring. Female Moose do not have antlers.

A new set of antlers begin to grow the following spring, nourished by the covering of furry skin known as velvet. They take three to five months to develop fully – the velvet is then scraped and rubbed off against bushes and branches. The antlers are then ready for battle. Generally, each set of antlers will be larger than the one before.

Birds, carnivores, and rodents eat dropped antlers as they are full of protein and Moose themselves will eat antler velvet for the nutrients.

Take note—cow Moose with young can be particularly dangerous.

Sometimes it´s worth to explore you surrounding. Never heard of this place till some days ago. In german it´s called "Kesselgrotte". There are further more places in this area. I am really sure to do a lightpaint at this place in the next weeks.

The only thing i was not so much happy with it, the weather was to good. I prefer capturing forest scenes without sunlight. I wonder why we spend so much money in weather forecasts, in the most cases like here, they fail.

May be i buy a frog and put in a glass, i think his forecast will be much better ! :-)

The range of my wideangle with 17 mm didn´t match with this scene so i solved it with a panorama.

Artists Statement:

This painting captures a fleeting moment in early winter, where the landscape is transformed by the low, golden light that bathes the scene. The curving river bank, gently blanketed in snow, is outlined on the one side by trees whose tops glow with the warm hues of the rising sun. Painted in a high-key fashion, the work employs soft, coarse horizontal strokes for the water and a smoothness to evoke the feel of the flat white snowy fields, while the water—rich in greys, reds, and pale purples—reflects the cold light and the dark reflections of the trees, creating an interplay of warmth and chill.

The overall composition is designed to feel ephemeral, as the edges of the scene gradually fade into the surrounding whiteness of the snow, giving the viewer a sense of both the vastness and quiet intimacy of winter. The trees, though delicate in their soft brushwork, stand resilient against the cold, their glowing tops providing a gentle contrast to the more muted colours of the water and the snow.

In this piece, I sought to explore the subtle beauty of winter’s transitional moments, where the harshness of the season meets the fragile warmth of light. The interplay of colour and light, combined with the fading edges, speaks to the transient nature of time—how moments of clarity are often fleeting, but nonetheless beautiful in their impermanence.

Koh Nang Yuan is a small island located near Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand. It is known for its striking beauty, white sandy beaches and the unique narrow strip of white sand that connects the three small islands. This sandbar only appears at low tide and creates a picturesque view. Koh means "island" in Thai, and Tao refers to "turtle". The name is derived due to the presence of sea turtles in the waters surrounding the island. Like Koh Tao, Koh Nang Yuan is known for its excellent diving and snorkeling opportunities. The underwater world around the island is rich in coral reefs and various marine animals. Visitors can enjoy activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, diving and relaxing on the idyllic beaches. On Koh Tao you can encounter different types of soft corals, including fan corals and soft leather corals. Here you often find the famous Finding Nemo clownfish and other clownfish. They are often associated with sea anemones, in which they seek shelter from predators. The area is also home to various types of hard coral, such as brain coral, table coral and staghorn coral. You can find colorful parrotfish feeding on coral and algae. Reef sharks can be seen regularly here, especially during deeper dives. You can encounter different types of moray eels, such as the giant moray eel. Sea cucumbers, sea urchins and starfish: these marine invertebrates are found on the seabed. Several species of lobsters and crabs inhabit the cracks and holes in the reef. Sea turtles are the most iconic inhabitants of the waters around Koh Tao. You may encounter several species of sea turtles, including the green sea turtle and the hawksbill turtle.

Sea turtles are often seen on diving and snorkeling trips around Koh Tao island, and sometimes they even rest on the seabed or swim along the reef. An encounter with a friendly sea turtle in the water is an unforgettable experience. We came across a very old turtle with a shell length of up to 2 meters! Sea turtles can live more than 100 years. These gentle creatures are curious by nature and can sometimes come close to you, creating wonderful interactions. Sea turtles often exude a calm and tranquil grace as they glide through the water. Their slow, fluid movements can be hypnotic and convey a sense of peace. An encounter with a friendly sea turtle leaves a deep impression and makes you aware of the importance and conservation of marine animals in their habitat. It is a reminder of the fragility and beauty of the underwater world. Koh Nang Yuan is sensitive to the impact of tourism, and efforts are being made to preserve the island. Visitors are often encouraged to take back their waste and follow sustainable practices. It is important to respect local regulations to preserve the beauty of the island for future generations.

Another typical scene in small, incorporated towns in rural Indiana is a property with an array of junk vehicles. These small town junkyards, usually with weeds growing high and trash everywhere, are often ignored by local leaders, either due to limited enforcement capabilities due to no zoning laws, or an unwillingness to enforce existing laws that prohibit the junkyards. Surrounding property values are diminished, rodents become a regular issue, and the quiet rural catastrophe begins to gather more and more steam.

Composed mainly of chalk and clay excavated from the surrounding area, the mound stands 40 metres (130 ft) high and covers about 5 acres (2 ha). It is a display of immense technical skill and prolonged control over labour and resources. Archaeologists calculate that Silbury Hill was built about 4750 years ago and that it took 18 million man-hours, or 500 men working for 15 years (Atkinson 1974:128) to deposit and shape 248,000 cubic metres (324,000 cu yd) of earth and fill on top of a natural hill

The base of the hill is circular and 167 metres (548 ft) in diameter. The summit is flat-topped and 30 metres (98 ft) in diameter.

ENGLISH:

Marstrand is a seaside locality situated in Kungälv Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden. The town got its name from its location on the island Marstrandsön. Recently the town has expanded to the neighbouring island Koön, which has bridge access to the mainland.

Marstrand has held city privileges since 1200. The most striking feature about Marstrand is the 17th-century fortress Carlsten, named after King Carl X Gustav of Sweden. During the last quarter of the 18th century Marstrand had the free port status, granted by the King Gustav III.

Marstrand is a popular sailing resort in summer time. It is also the venue of the annual Match Cup Sweden, a match race sailing competition.

Administratively Marstrand and its immediately surrounding islands constituted a city municipality of its own until the local government reform in 1971, when it was merged into Kungälv Municipality.

Moskovsky Victory Park (Московский парк Победы, Moskovskiy park Pobedy) is a public park in the Moskovsky District of Saint Petersburg, Russia. The name of the park was given in honor of Victory in the Second World War.

Victory Park is situated in the south part of Saint-Petersburg and bounded by Kuznetsovskaya Street, Moskovsky Avenue, Yuri Gagarin Avenue, Basseynaya Street. The address of the park administration is Kuznetsovskaya Street, 25. Park covers an area of 168 acres (0.68 km2).

Victory Park was created as the area redevelopment of the former site of the brick factory soon after World War II ended. The factory site and surrounding area carried a sorrowful reminder for surviving citizens. During the war, the factory facilities were used to cremate victims of German blockade and bombardments during the Siege of the city. The ashes were transported in mine cars and dumped in the nearby flooded pits. The brick factory was located less than a mile from Russian front-line positions along one of the city's major routes - International Avenue (now Moskovsky Avenue) - close to the south outskirts of the city. Several pictures taken by Nazi aerial reconnaissance in one of the harsh winters during the Siege shows that the crematory facility was heavily used as seen by markings on snow-covered area. Estimates on how many victims were cremated there widely range from at least 117 thousand to over 600 thousand bodies. Soon after World War II, the factory building was erased and the area was redeveloped into a park.

Victory Park was officially opened on July 7, 1946 and covered only the 1/7 of the present-day territory. During the next decade, the park grew to the present boundaries. The original quarries, trenches, and foxholes were preserved and further developed into a system of channels and small ponds. The 1950s saw construction projects in the park led by Soviet architects Evgeniy Katonin and Valerian Kirhoglani. They created a summerstage, fountains and several pavilions including two propylaea-like buildings at the main entrance. In further years, sculptures and monuments were installed throughout the park. A major alley called "Alley of Heroes" features busts of Soviet heroes, hence the name. Among statuaries in the park are the monument dedicated to Soviet marshal Georgy Zhukov and statues of Soviet war heroes Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya and Alexander Matrosov. In the 1990s, the Orthodox chapel and commemorative plaque were erected at the former site of the crematory facility.

The park features several entertainment options including a small amusement park, playgrounds, cafés, boat rental, mini-golf, tennis courts and outdoor ice skating rink. Transportation to the park is provided by a namesake subway station (Park Pobedy Metro) at the south-west edge of the park.

Round the back doubles of Winchelsea Beach today, I could of sworn I was on the set of The Wizard of Oz, with all the bewitching Blackthorn surrounding me and luring me down the different pathways....and no, I hadn't been drinking..... Of course the path wasn't yellow, Tish looks nothing like Toto and there wasn't an Oompa Loompa in sight! But nevertheless, it was absolutely stunning!

The surrounding mist vanished with a soft rush of cold, wet air. Above it’s thunderous undertones, the loud hiss of the falls came down upon him now crisp and clear. He found himself standing in an opening; a cavernous stone sanctuary scooped out of the jungle mountain by the tireless years of tumbling boulders, rushing mountain water, and following air. Craggy cliff walls, dappled with sunlight, towered upward in an almost vertical climb, and tangles of roots and vines slithered down over moss covered ledges and outcroppings, to hang limp above a calm glistening pool of water at the base of the falls. There above the white veil of falling water, lay the gaping black mouth of an immense cavern...

This hill might not be of any significance in most places; however, in a place so flat like the state of Florida it is looked upon as an actual mountain.

Sugarloaf Mountain is the fifth highest named point in the state of Florida. At 312 feet (95 meters) above sea level it is also the highest point on the geographic Florida Peninsula. The mountain is in Lake County, near the town of Clermont. Comparatively, Florida's highest point, Britton Hill, rises to 345 feet (105 meters) above sea level in the Florida Panhandle. However, Sugarloaf Mountain is the most prominent point in the entire state.

Sugarloaf Mountain, located along the western shore of Lake Apopka in Lake County, Florida, is the northernmost named upland associated with the Lake Wales Ridge, a series of sand hills running south to Highlands County. The mountain, really a ridge with rolling dome-like peaks, rises abruptly from the surrounding flat terrain. Its prominence is thought to be 245 feet (74 meters), with its highest peak having a local prominence of approximately 200 feet (61 meters) relative to the surrounding ridge. Despite not being the highest point in Florida (which is Britton Hill near the Alabama border, the lowest high point of any U.S. state), Sugarloaf Mountain's summit is the most prominent peak in the state, and in a national ranking, is more prominent than the most prominent hills in both Louisiana and Delaware.

Prior to the 20th century, Sugarloaf Mountain was a wilderness dominated by sandhill and flatwood pine forests. By the 1920s, logging had stripped the mountain of its hardwood vegetation, permanently altering its native environment. Scrub began to grow on the mountain’s slopes, in addition to grapes, which were planted mostly to the south of the mountain for a decade or so.

By the 1940s, grape farming had declined due to fungal diseases, and it was replaced by citrus farming. Citrus plantations flourished on the flanks of Sugarloaf Mountain, providing the basis for the local economy until the 1980s, when freezes began to systematically devastate local groves. As the citrus industry faded, property on the mountain was rezoned for residential development, with value seen in the mountain’s panoramic views of the surrounding area. Other lands abutting the mountain, primarily along Lake Apopka, were preserved with the intention of restoring long absent ecologies. Only a few citrus plantations and vineyards managed to persist to the present day.

Sugarloaf Mountain’s geology is tied to the formation of Florida’s sand ridges, specifically the Lake Wales Ridge. The mountain consists of relict sand ridges and dunes formed in a marine shoreline environment approximately 2 million years ago during the Pleistocene epoch. Since the Pleistocene, the sands comprising the mountain have probably been uplifted due to isostatic rebound of the crust beneath the Florida Platform. The uplift is attributed to the karstification/erosion of the platform, which is reducing the weight on the underlying basement rock, triggering a process similar to post glacial rebound.

Sugarloaf Mountain was recently recognized for its scenic, cultural, and historic value. The state of Florida designated the Green Mountain Scenic Byway, which primarily traverses the eastern side of the mountain. The route offers rare panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and access to newly acquired ecological preserves and historic sites. Biking along the Byway as well as on other roads on the mountain has become popular, due to the challenge imposed by the relatively rugged terrain of the mountain compared to the surrounding area.

Sugarloaf Mountain also featured a golf course designed by the firm of Coore & Crenshaw. The course, part of the proposed private Sugarloaf Mountain Golf Club residential development, was somewhat unusual in Florida, and took advantage of the relatively prominent topography. The golf course was closed in 2012 due to low turnout and the inability for the planned development to take hold following the 2008 housing bubble and has remained abandoned since.

The sights and scenery surrounding Scarborough beach are something to be admired. The mountains stand tall around you and the vast endless ocean lying before you make this beautiful and serene beach to relax at. Stunning rock pools to explore are waiting on the shoreline and the waves welcome the surfers to challenge them. A stroll along this secluded and long white sandy beach is very pleasant. It is advisable to be cautious while swimming due to the occasional rip current just off the beach. Scarborough beach is never over crowded but can get busy in summer when the tourists flock to these gorgeous sands. Being a very spacious beach there is always space for you and your family to soak up the sun without feeling invaded by others playing ball on the beach or those flying kites on a more windy day.

The easternmost edge of Jupiter’s Great Red Spot and surrounding south tropical disturbance are captured in this image from NASA’s Juno spacecraft. At left, wispy tendrils from the Red Spot give the atmosphere a layered appearance as they partially obscure cloud features below.

Jupiter's appearance is a tapestry of vivid colors and swirling atmospheric vortices. Many aspects of the planet’s atmosphere are still a mystery. For example, the origin of individual storms or churning cloud features is unknown. By studying Jupiter’s weather up close for the first time, Juno is helping researchers better understand how atmospheres work in general – including our own. What we learn about Jupiter’s atmosphere will also help scientists understand how gas-giant planets work in general, including those now being discovered beyond our solar system.

This color-enhanced image was taken at 3:01 a.m. PDT on April 1, 2018 (6:01 a.m. EDT), as the spacecraft performed its 12th close flyby of Jupiter. At the time, Juno was about 7,900 miles (12,750 kilometers) from the planet's cloud tops, above a southern latitude of approximately 26 degrees.

The name of the traditional river of ancient Chittagong is Karnafuli. This river is an immortal witness of thousands of years of history. Starting from the eastern hills, this river has merged with the Bay of Bengal on the wide western side. The scenery of the two banks of Karnafuli is amazing. Fishing boat with fishermen's equipment on the river bank in the morning at Karnafuli river (Kaptai). When fishermen fish in the fog-covered river in the winter morning, an unearthly environment is created. It's like a heavenly morning.

Chittagong, the holy land of Bar Auliya and the green land of natural beauty, has developed on the banks of Karnafuli. One of the main reasons for this beauty of Chittagong is Karnafuli. The port built on the banks of this river is economically important. Chittagong port is very old. The river is losing its romance. The river is only being attacked because of the profiteering people. The only hydropower plant in Bangladesh has been built on Karnafuli.

Orion and the Running man.

Captured over a few clear moonless nights from the Derwent valley UK .The constellation of Orion is now getting low on the horizon and soon to disappear again until the Autumn. As one of the brightest objects in the night sky the Orion nebula is visible to the unaided eye as the middle ‘star’ in the asterism of Orion’s sword . Seen here the bright core has carved out an Earth facing hole in the dust and gas clouds so you can see in to an intense region of star formation . Above and to the North is a fainter reflection nebula known as the Running man . Here nearby stars have insufficient energy to ionise the gas and emit light as in Orion but there is enough to reflect a scattering of beautiful blue and purple hues on to the surrounding interstellar dust of the running man .

The picture represents around 7 hours of RGB natural light with no colour added or changed so as your eyes would see it if you had a built in long exposure setting 👽 . To achieve this it was Shot at 550 mm focal length with 120 x 3 min subs and 120 x 30 second subs in the backyard .

Little French Key’s surrounding area was first settled by a Frenchman pirate and was thus called “Frenchman Cay,” which was later abbreviated to French Cay or Key. Little French Key is one of 53 Cays in and around the Bay Islands. and it is without a doubt one of the most popular, if not the most popular destination on Roatan. It is certainly a favorite among cruise ship travelers as the cay offers an all in one experience.

The key offers visitors, Horseback Riding, Snorkeling, an underwater museum, a wild animal refuge, Kayaking and

paddle-boarding.

From the 8th century BC. the settlements of the surrounding hills united and the city of Rome was founded. The Forum Romanum also known as Foro Romano, is a plaza surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. When you look at the Roman Forum today, you will see a large plain full of ruins. Yet this has not always been the case. Once the Forum Romanum was the bustling center of Rome. Everyone came here. Acting on political talk, important decisions were taken at the Roman Forum. The Colosseum built in the 1st century AD in Rome, was the largest amphitheater in the Roman Empire. The construction was started in the year 72 and was funded by the Siege of Jerusalem in 70. After its completion in 80 it was consecrated by Titus. The games at the opening lasted 100 days. There were 76 entrances that were numbered with Roman numerals (the numbers are still visible above the entrances XXIII-LIV). It offered place between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators. There were four gladiator schools in the niegbourhood of the Coliseum. During normal games in the Colosseum, wild animal fights were held in the morning. The arena was arranged appropriately with rocks, bushes, etc. At noon there was a break program for interested parties in which convicted prisoners were thrown for the wild animals. The afternoon program with the gladiator shows was the highlight. The Coliseum is depicted on the Italian 5 Euro

cents.

We visit Rome on a hot summersday and temperatures soar to over 40ºC. Photo of Samantha in front of the Colosseum which was the largest amphitheater in the Roman Empire. The construction was started in the year 72. It's still an iconic symbol of Rome. We took it slow amid region’s most intense heatwave.

“Jimmy Simpson Jr.” Peak: The trail is a bit steep and challenging all the way up till the end great views. Hiked on Monday, no other hikers on that day, just four of us. The start of the trailhead was difficult to find, we went to the wrong starting point, it was climber’s route (need rope), not the hiking trailhead, had to slide down along the crushed stones. Finally found the marked little orange ribbons on the trees. Bushwhacking for a good portion at the beginning part of the trail. Felt more like an animal trail and it probably was, until we were on AllTrails “path” as other hikers put the orange ribbons on the trees. We spent quite time stopping to check AllTrials map, to make sure we were on trail, and thanked all the pioneer hikers who tied orange ribbons on the trees as signs. We saw summit when we got to the first viewpoint, not realized it was so difficult to reach… steep and lots of crushed stones. We hiked zig zag patterns, used hands and feet all together for the final 100 meters...

Reaching to the summit, we were rewarded with this panoramic view of Bow Lake and the surrounding glaciers, feeling a connection to the raw power and beauty of nature. The crisp mountain air filling the lungs, and the silence of the high altitude allowing for reflection and introspection… The journey up to the peak was tough, but always rewarded with the fascinating scenery! The colors of the lake changing with wind and light, this special blue-green patterns lasted just couple of minutes!

The experiences on the summit could not be expressed with words! Especially found the black metal box, looks like finding the treasure... under the pile of stones on the summit! There was a small notebook, all the hikers who reached to the summit, wrote down their names on it. The signatures were traced back to 20 years ago! Four of us put our signatures on the last page! There would be metal boxes (Black or Pink) with notebook inside on all the challenging/difficult summits all over the world, it was an honor putting signatures on it. I was so proud of writing my signature with all other hikers' signatures in the past 20 years together in this summit!

Climbed down was a bit easy, we got the right trail path. Next time, we will take orange/pink ribbons to tie on the trees to make the path stand out to help fellow adventurers.

A bit of history: Mount Jimmy Simpson Jr. is a majestic peak located in the Canadian Rockies. It is named after a notable individual, Jimmy Simpson Jr. who loves exploring the great outdoors and is particularly fond of hiking in the Canadian Rockies. One of his favorite hiking spots is Bow Lake, located in Banff National Park, Alberta. Rising high into the sky, Mount Jimmy Simpson Jr. is adorned with rugged cliffs, snow-capped peaks, and pristine alpine meadows. Its slopes are covered in lush forests, showcasing a vibrant display of colors during the changing seasons.
