I have a green hand. Actually I have a green arm. It's starting to swell up a little bit, but I have yet to actually look at my finger.
Sugery went well. My only complication was dehydration. Still pretty numb, but the pain is starting to kick in. PT starts tomorrow.

Tuesday after surgery. More significant buising is starting to show, but the doctor told me to expect this. The bruising will get even prettier in the next few days. haha! The lymphatic system can't take the fluids out of the area quickly enough, so they settle mostly in the lower parts and less active parts. Although you can't see it in this photo, there is also pretty purple bruising around the heel area on both sides of my foot. Anyone who's had a severe sprain probably knows what bruising I'm talking about. The strange wrinkles on my foot are due to the Ace bandage wrapping that I wear off and on during the day to keep swelling to a minimum - I removed it just prior to taking this photo.
Spike and Lucy were fixed today. Spike had an additional surgery where he had to have the head of his femur removed.
He scared the vet after surgery because an extra dose of pain meds actually relaxed him to the point he stopped breathing. After 1-2 minutes they were able to get him breathing again, but they did have to tube him.

After surgery, I was required to spend 8 - 12 hours each day strapped into the "Continuous Passive Motion" machine." The goal was to get to a hundred degree bend. The dog took the every opportunity to jump on my incision and steal the slippers off my feet and blankets off of my torso while I was strapped in. He also napped on the CPM machine when it wasn't in use. It's a good thing I was in a perpetual pain killer haze.
I'm back home after surgery yesterday. I'm able to get around with a walker and after a couple of weeks should progress to a cane, and then eventually be able to do without any walking aid of any kind. We will check on my progress again later.

This is me trying to keep my nerves under control by being my usual cheerful jokey self, but there was no breaking these very serious and super professional nurses. They were really kind and compassionate though. Scott took this last shot of me immediately before I was taken into the operating room. I'm shy about letting everyone see how much weight I've gained but hopefully these will be the shocking before shots that I will one day soon be able to compare with the newer thinner shots of myself. You know, the ones where you go, "Oooh wow, look at that, you look like a completely different person." Just makeup and hair alone will make a big difference, and they gave me this enormous gown to wear, which ordinarily would have made me happy, considering all of the many years I have been forced to wear tiny little gowns that barely wrapped around my body and never covered my ass. Not these gowns, I was swimming in this.

I don’t normally display my ears but just to show that I had them pinned back a little. The stitching runs right round to the back as this is where the facelift joins the ear.
My menicus and cartlidge were all messed up and had to repair it . Surgeon had to remove build up (from arthrisis) from my bone. 3 surgeries in 1 place. I'm so lucky that I only had 2 inscisions instead of cut the whole kneecap.

I took this picture of my hand when the bandages came off after carpal tunnel surgery. I though it was facinating, the nurse thought I was a bit mad taking a picture. You can hardly see the scar at all now.

My grandson had his tonsils out this morning. This was taken while he was in recovery. He came through the surgery well.

If you read the blogs updated on my website you might know that i recently was admitted in the hospital, and released Thursday morning. I was allowed to take these off two days after i was released. When i was getting them taken off i asked my mother (who drove 4 hours to help me after my surgery) if she could take off the one near my belly button because i thought that would be the one with the most blood, and the most painful... which it wasn't. Slowly as she worked her way around each one had more blood than the last, and the final one had the most blood. Of course. I kept them around to photograph them because i sort of felt like it was an important symbol of a lot of this year. Since class broke out for summer so much has changed for me. I've met people who changed my life, experienced emotions in a way i never thought i would, saw the most inspiring musicians, came to terms with a lot of relationships, joined Symphony Magazine, and ultimately i'm a lot happier and confident. This surgery was just another important thing that needed to happen.
The Operating Room is a big room with lots of equipment and really big lights. When you get there your surgery staff, including the Anesthesiology you met earlier, will be waiting for you.
I want to let you know I'll be having back surgery on Wed. June 30th so I won't be uploading as much for a while. I'll be having a double fusion done L4-S1.
I'm very anxious today and needed to get my mind off things and do a very easy portrait. I have the Canon XSi on a tripod triggered by an Opteka infared remote that gives me 2 seconds to get my hand down. I have a Canon 430 EX II on the camera with a warming gel on it to match the lamp, bounced off the ceiling to camera left. Then I have a Quantaray 900W (cheap) flash on the top of the bookshelf also with a warming filter on it to mimic the light from the lamp. You can barely see it on my rising hairline forehead.
I wanted broad warm light and warmed up the color temp just a bit more than even the tungsten setting in Canon's DPP. I like this corner of the living room with the furniture, books and the colors. I wanted something kind of contemplative before surgery.
Since my back hurts and didn't want to hurt it more I didn't tweak stuff at all during the shoot but it worked out so well I hardly had to do anything afterward.
