We heard on the news that due to the pandemic, our online food deliveries were likely to have a lot of substitutes in the coming days. And indeed we did get a Savoy cabbage instead of a pointed cabbage. Unfortunately it didn't taste half as nice as it looked.

Not a great deal happened with the light apart from a brief 5 minute window where I managed to capture this.

Some say the cement works are a blot on the landscape, for me the building is more like a cathedral.

Hope has the capacity to make around 1.5 million tonnes of cement each year

The cement is vital for UK construction - from homes and hospitals to railways and regeneration

Over 200 people work at Hope in a variety of jobs.

Most live within a few miles of the site

Studies show the works contributes over £60 million to the local economy every year

Our cement is made with local limestone and shale blended with imported shale substitutes

Up to half the fuel used in Hope's kilns comes from wastes that may otherwise go to landfill

After being 37 hauled all week, the Eastleigh based Test train ran this week. The usual "0Z37" ran, to remove them off, I knew it would be back to the usual 73/9s again. Here 73964 tnt 962 pass through Tudeley, working the 1Q56, Tonbridge West yard - Woking

I spent a substantial amount of time along the Devils Lake Sub today, and did not see a single train. Two and a half hours this afternoon, after a good hour in the morning, and nothing. The second train since sunset is passing now. So I've dug this shot from earlier this year out to post tonight. A westbound grain train slogging up the grade through Arvilla.

From around Christmas 2025, with a few days here and there as exceptions, JR Freight Train #75 has been utilizing an EF65 electric as standard power in place of their normal EF210.

Train 75 is an intermodal shuttle, operating 6 days a week during the midday between Tokyo Terminal and Sumida Terminal via JR's Nambu, Musashino and Joban Lines. No concrete reason for the change was given but considering these boxcabs have been used only as needed since 2024, many local railfans have eagerly welcomed shooting this JNR era classic once again on a daily basis.

"Substitute" grölten einst "The Who" und meinten genau das: Stellvertreter, Ersatz!

hatte man kurzerhand einige Zugläufe gestrichen bzw. abgeändert.

May be eaten as a garlic substitute, but is considered to be a noxious weed. iNaturalist reports "...is a perennial, bulb-forming species of wild onion, native to Europe, northwestern Africa and the Middle East. The species was introduced in Australia and North America, where it has become a noxious weed." If eaten by cattle, Allium vineale can impart an unpleasant, garlicky taste to beef and milk.

Amtrak's (Iowa Pacific) Hoosier State rolls into Dyer on a fine summer evening. The leader looks rough. However, I'm sure service was fine in the lounge car. Best short distance train I was ever on (under Iowa Pacific). Absolutely.

Having seen a couple of videos of Bulleid Pacific 34053 'Sir Keith Park' operating on The Spa Valley Railway, I was encouraged to go down for a trip on the line. On the videos I'd seen trains had been top and tailed with 34053 at one end and BR type 2 31 430 'Sister Dora' at the other end.

When I arrived at the railway however, I was advised that 'Sir Keith Park' wasn't in service and electro-diesel 73 140 would be top and tailing with the '31'. I didn't mind too much as I like the 'ED', particularly since they've painted it in BR blue livery instead of the Network SouthEast colours it used to have.

So here 73 140 arrives in The Spa Valley Railway's platform 2 at Eridge, with the first arrival of the day from Tunbridge Wells West.

Having spent several hours sitting on my favourite uncomfortable rock, I decided Mrs Otter was not going to put in an appearance.

It had nevertheless been a nice evening, watching the distant white tailed eagle and a flock of common terns.

As I made my way back home I suddenly spotted a pair of mergansers. Rather than being someway off shore as per usual, they were were sat on the rocks. They were as surprised as I was and swam slowly away enabling me to get a few shots before they rounded the headland.

The perfect way to round off the day.

She is selling "Juanes"

one of the main dishes of the cuisine of the Peruvian jungle and is widely consumed on June 24, the feast of St. John the Baptist (San Juan), hence the name. It is known that after the arrival of the Spanish people to Incan lands, missionaries popularized the biblical account of the beheading of St. John. This dish's name could therefore be, more specifically, a reference to the head of St. John.

The juane would have been a food usually made for travelers, as they could be stored for long periods without spoiling.

The juane is usually made on the basis of rice, meat, olives, hard-boiled egg, spices among others, which are wrapped with bijao (macaw-flower or heliconia) leaves and then put to boil for about an hour and a half. Rice can be substituted with cassava, chonta, the mixture of rice and cassava, beans, among other products. Before being wrapped in the leaves, the preparation is bathed with a mixture of beaten eggs to get the "pickup" (ligue in Spanish) of food and not fall off

No neon around here, but, once upon a time, there would have been at the cinema...and they still skeuomorph it.

Last time DCR had a shortfall of available 60s they hired in one from DB Cargo. I can only assume that due to Toton not servicing their locos anymore that today's substitute had to come from the very infrequently used 56 pool

This TV is older than me.

Which is quite quite odd. (:

I have to say that I actually do read alot more than I watch TV which didnt used to be the case. Im past the point of caring that i look like a nerd because im always getting books out in public places and being antisocial by reading them. :)

I think some of my friends should read more to be quite honest. :D

im eating an apple by the way.. :)

and just to clarify, if your a weakling like me, dont carry the TV yourself..although i did because my daddy thinks im weird and wouldnt carry it into the garden for me. :D

I totally stole the TV-in-your-back-garden idea from Chrisology. (:

P.S this is my only explore and im quite proud of that. (:

Let me give you the details behind this shot. Earlier last summer, I took a photo of my friend's GT3 (pictured) and really loved the angle and car. However, I didn't like the background. SO, I decided to try a composite and blend in a sky from a photo I took last year that I never posted. The sky photo is from a 7 minute long exposure at night. I am pleased with how this turned out.

Please leave a comment/fave if you like it. Please do not use/post elsewhere without my prior consent. Thank you.

The brutal cold over New Year's Week was taking its toll on Amtrak's equipment in Chicago. Many of their SC44 "Chargers" and P42DC's were sidelined due to mechanical issues related to the cold weather. As a consequence (a blessing for us), Amtrak substituted its regular locomotives on some of their trains with older B32-8WH's. Here, Amtrak 518 leads what is presumably a Lincoln Service deadhead for Chicago Union Station, seen approaching 17th St.

CN C40-8 2008 leads CN Q149 west past the GTW g-heads in Merrillville, IN. Originally, the IC unit second out was leading, but a stuck bell caused it to be taken out of the lead. Thankfully the substitute was also a nice leader and not a GEVO!
