I finally took the time to visit the beautiful winter forest close to where I live.
Strolling through this calm and cold landscape while listening to some dark and cold tunes from Trentemøller was very relaxing and inspirational.
I'm quite satisfied with the results I brought home and therefore start this year with some more organic content, in contrast to my usual, fairly geometric photos.
Here I did some experimenting with a shallow depth of field and its out of focus blur (aka bokeh), another feature usually absent from my photos.
Although the subject is trivial, I hope the result is interesting enough.
The hurricane Lothar from 1999-12-26 is most probably responsible for this glade, as it chopped of a lot of trees also in the Bremgartenwald.
The healing of the wounds shows a lot of biodiversity, as can be seen in this picture.
White Knuckled driving conditions through the Thompson–Nicola Regional district
Sub-zero temperatures.
The day before making this precarious trek through the Central Interior of BC, Canada , the news reported vehicles sliding off the road in all directions at this precise location.
Descending the highway hill was nerve racking to say the least, however I was in capable hands.
The pick-up truck in this image decided to travel down the center of road, in search of better traction.
As beautiful as this mountain highway is, wintery conditions can serve to be treacherous.

This poor little ladybird looked as though it should have found a warmer overwintering place.
It had moved since the day before, which was also sub zero. so hopefully it was able to survive this wintry blast too.
The Pathway..
Last Wednesday was a frigid cold day, sub zero temperatures with strong winds made it feel even colder. We made our way to Jack Darling Memorial Park and spend a few hours braving the cold to get some shots.
the cloud filled sky was changing by the minute, the light was so unpredictable my meter was getting a workout. at times it looked like the a sudden storm would crack the sky and either snow or hail would soon be pelting us.

Driftwood And Sand..
February 2022 was frigid cold, sub zero temperatures with strong winds made it feel even colder.
Suddenly the dark clouds dissipated and light fluffy clouds with hints of blue sky appeared,
I found a solitary piece of driftwood on the sandy shoreline and framed it against the backdrop of the ever changing sky to make this wonderful shot.

The other day I did a rough calculation how many layers of water molecules deposited per second it takes to build these beautiful icy coverage spikes overnight.
I came to an astonishing order of about 50 layers per second!

I would like to wish all my dear Flickr friends who celebrate Christmas a very Happy Christmas! <3
We are having severe cold, sub zero temperatures and wind gusts over 50 miles per hour. Thankfully it will only last a few days. I want to send out a prayer to all living beings out in this bitter cold and to all who suffer in the world. I am endlessly grateful for all I have <3
Thank-you to all who take the time to comment on my photos it is greatly appreciated!
Stay well!

These wintry scenes are now a thing of the past since our temperatures have now warmed up to +12C and the recent rains have all but washed away all the snow in low lying coastal areas of North Vancouver. The wonders of Nature never cease to amaze me.
After a 3 hour trek up the Snowy Mountains from Dead Horse Gap we finally arrived at the Rams Head Ranges, resisting the temptation we set up camp before it got too dark. The terrain around the location is hard work and at sub zero temperatures it's really difficult to move very far, fortunately we were surrounded by stunning scenery.

Sub-zero temperatures overnight produced a nice Hoar frost on the trees in the Pinery Narrows section of the Cuyahoga Valley for the CVSR's first Saturday trip of the year on January 22, 2022. Hoar frost forms when water vapor in the air contacts surfaces that are already below freezing and doesn't usually last long once the sun comes out. That was the case on this day. The 6771 has surely seen these conditions before being a veteran of many Canadian winters.
Mostly Eider ducks (thanks so much to Joan for the identification) doing their Eider duck thing in sea smoke on a sub-zero morning in Portland, Maine. I believe that two of them are the Red-breasted Merganser duck.

Life goes on in Alaska even when temperatures drop well below zero. I stood looking out across the silent frozen landscape, and the soft winter colors were breathtaking.
Another shot from the sub-zero morning last Saturday. Since then, we've had temperatures in the 60's, truck toppling winds (101mph in Colorado Springs on Monday), and now it looks like a snowy weekend again. Colorado once again proves that it can deliver up just about anything in the winter.
My apologies that I've fallen behind on everyone's photo streams again. I will be doing my best to do some catching up this weekend!

While setting up a shot of the skyline of the city this beautiful Husky wandered into my shot. I changed my focus and snapped this perfect shot of him before he returned to his masters side.

On this evening I was on the edge of suffering from hypothermia. The strong wind from the north delivered sub zero temperatures and the painfully slow arrival of 66746 at East Midlands Gateway with 4M19, the 11:50 Southampton Western Docks – EMG made it almost unbearable. With the strong wind buffeting both myself and Gav all over the place it seemed like a fruitless task to try and bag a time exposure especially using a long lens and a long exposure time. This was the best of the bunch, most had some camera shake.
66746 runs forward to the head shunt before running round her train.
Fifth and last image in this C-O-L-D series...
Yes, frigid and sub-zero, but nonetheless beautiful and full of colors- soft blue, red, violet, and yellow.
Thanks for joining me on my cold series through your views, favorites, and comments :)
With sub-zero temperatures predicted for the next couple of weeks - I am waiting for the day that our boreal forest welcomes spring flowers. Until then, I'll see them in my dreams.
