Hard to believe, but there are over a thousand vineyards on Lanzarote. Most sell their grapes to a handful of prolific Bodegas such as El Grifo and Bermejo.

I made this little doggy. It's the first time I've made something like this.

The stuffed animals my kids chose to get custom made today at the "build a bear" kind of shop. All adjustments in Lightroom 2 beta.

Today I made a dish, Polish stuffed cabbage rolls. I haven't made in 20 years. It was as good as I remembered. I will definitely include it in my home cooking rotation. Those are not mashed potatoes; it's a dollop of sour cream and that puts these cabbage rolls over the top.

I've decided to do a big upload of most of the Valencia Bioparc photos on their own rather than upload them in and amongst the general Valencia stuff.

The day we flew to Valencia we were waiting for a taxi 4.30 AM and I felt the weight of my backpack - heavy! I decided to take an L series long lens out which was very heavy - and I almost never use along lens on these trips - but I replaced it with a 70-300 IS zoom that is ideal for travel. I haven't used it for years and was struggling to find it as the taxi arrived. I remembered that this lens wasn't the best I had used bit it would have to do. I knew there was a big zoo at Valencia but truthfully, I never thought we would go to it. The last time I went to a zoo would be over twenty years ago.

When we got to the Bioparc I put the long lens on and didn't take it off until we left. I would have been frustrated without it - it made a massive difference. Many of the photos are taken through dirty plate glass which reduced the contrast even further than my lens does. The animals can stay a long way out of the public's way - and they choose to! The day was generally overcast, which, to be fair, was probably a good thing, reducing the chance of harsh shadows.

There are no masterpieces but they'll do for a first attempt.

i made little niches in them.. one at a time.. and then stuffed them with goat ches and gave them a kiss of olive oil mixed with garlic and ground humus
