A friend of mine suggested that I took snaps of my g shock collection using my home studio set up. How hard can it be right? turned out, its hard. I was aiming for rim lighting but for the past hour or so, I think this is the best I can get to.

Lights : 2x Interfit EX150, 1x softbox and 1x Umbrella
Thanks to Sara and Tammy who was willing to do some modelling, while I learn the very difficult art of Studio lighting and photography. So many things to consider, look out for and to factor in vs. street. Different mindset, different elements. Knowing your camera does help though :-)
I wanted to use window light, since it is cloudy today..so GIANT soft box....can't beat that...
instead of shooting with back drop facing the sky, by putting it this way, I can eliminate the back drop reflection..
I wanted to try lighting it underneath, but then I realize I need to place the speedlite directly underneath the bowl..that would require me to bring another set...
At this point, I was pretty hungry and plus Aidan had already been down for the 1st half of his 90 mins nap...so may be some other time. (Hey, I did cook and set up the whole thing in 30mins...)
The good thing I found out about putting the glass not directly on the back drop..it makes the shadow less noticeable..plus you can see the reflection.

These are from waaaaaaay back :D Haven't got round till now to share them with you all.
Anyway I was so inspired by fellow Flickerinos smoke shots that I had to give it a go myself, first attempt and still got a long way to go but its a cool start and I wanted to show you all something different :)
Pretty much straight off the camera. Gels on the 580ex 2 were used to colour the smoke.
Setup shot below.

Power....all be damn, I don't remember lol
Step #1 in stacking glasses:
Make sure you have everything out of the way before you try and adjust them
Step #2:
Make sure you adjust how much water you have in them before you put the other glass in
Step #3:
Paper towels are a necessity when you are shooting at the school's studio ;)
These steps are brought to you by Lisa's mistakes. Learn them...live them lol

Mathijs happy at shoot. He finds the studiosetup very interresting and is suprised every time the flashes went off.
Shot wih the use of Nikon CLS. Built in flash as trigger. SB-800 on 1/16th thru umbrella on the front left and silver reflector on the front right. SB-26 on 1/4th triggered by optical slave for background illumination.
Kodak No. 2A Folding Cartridge Premo, circa around 1930 apparently. Makes a nice subject for a still life set-up.

Set up:
This whole set up was all done on my white coffee table. Position the flowers and the pendant on a white pad, and then I place my light tent/Ikea’s laundry basket behind the table as white back drop. In order to achieve bokeh effect I crinkle up some tinfoil and place as far the coffee table would go, light the tinfoil with a 430 with M 1/128 and position it about one foot from the table. A 580 was attached to the camera and point toward camera left, which is bouncing from a home made tinfoil reflector (ok I just taped a really big piece of tinfoil on a poster board and taped that on the wall) and fill card was place on subject right.
Yes I do realize that if I just take a photo of the set up, it will be less confusing. Unfortunately I was working on it right till Don needed a bottle...so I was in a hurry to pack it up.
Forgot to mention I was using the 4x marco add on with the 1.6x telephoto accessory lens.
