The word "fragile" has been on my mind lately. I have always thought of the mind being very strong, but watching my mother struggle with dementia makes me realize how fragile the mind can be. These worn/fragile items were pulled out to paint because they are, indeed, fragile and in need of a little extra care. We all do from time to time, don't we?

The cloth has seen better days, bristles are falling out of the brush, splint weavers are brittle and broken - but I love them still, perhaps because they have weathered the storms. The basket was made by my grandfather's brother, Otto, and was given to my grandmother, Emma, to use as her egg gathering basket.

It is one of those paintings I got lost in, losing track of time while working and just enjoying giving these simple objects my full attention.

Some of Computer fundamentals, 80% are Math and Equations, 20% programming. It's like other languages, 80% for the grammars, 20% for how to read and write; then you should be able to read and write anything.

At the end computer programming is a language like tongue or human languages, Don't use it, you will lose it.

I am not a student, i shoot this as a subject to use my SB-900 speedlight and my NEW light room.

A short sample of some of the work that I produced recently for an ad campaign for Hasselblad featuring the very latest and first £1m supercar from Aston Martin, the One-77. The work was all shot exclusively on a Hasselblad H3DII and has just gone live today, 1st January 2010, on the main Hasselblad global website which is a great achievement for all at Ambient Life as this is our first piece of work for Hasselblad. I am pretty well known for my work with all things automotive in the UK and abroad but as we push into 2010 we are starting to enjoy a more diverse range of work which is always good as well as continueing with our seminars with Jaguar and Land Rover.

A shot with a bauty dish as the main light.

Just picked up this new ball head for my 2012 Camera gear setup :D

This thing is seriously heavy duty with a huge load capacity, exactly what I wanted for the long lens setups, no more creeping of my giottos head that couldn't handle the weight :)

Now just waiting on my Manfrotto 055XPROB legs to arrive and my new tripod will be complete :D mwhahahahaha :P

These are from waaaaaaay back :D Haven't got round till now to share them with you all.

Anyway I was so inspired by fellow Flickerinos smoke shots that I had to give it a go myself, first attempt and still got a long way to go but its a cool start and I wanted to show you all something different :)

Pretty much straight off the camera. Gels on the 580ex 2 were used to colour the smoke.

Portrait of Sameer AlSaeed at Home Studio singing a book

Set up was for low key lighting with an added hair light and a reflector.

Taken using a hasselblad with a polaroid back, then I scanned it in on my crappy scanner :)

I have been set so many projects along side each other for the next 8 weeks at uni!

Last hurrah to summer, pushing the palette knife around.

The client wanted a shot to showcase their new putter design - both front and back - in the same view. Usage was for print adds. This image was taken back in 1999 and 30K (think 80K today) for "new" large format digital was not in my budget, plus it wasn't any better (back then) than film.

Set up: Both putters were clamped to c-stands and were set in position, while looking at the ground glass on the 4X5 view camera. A black roll paper background was set several feet behind the products. This image is slightly cropped from the original Fujichrome Velvia RVP film.

Lighting: 3-strobes + some small reflectors (soft & hard silver). To CR & CL, one each Elinchrom 500 w/8" dish holding barndoors & Tough Rolux diffusion taped on. Between the lights and subject, was a larger T.R. diffusion panel clamped to light stands just outside of camera view. This was for the specular highlights on the shaft and base lighting on the putter heads. Background light was an Elinchrom 1000 w/8" dish, barndoors, deep blue gel and "cookie cutter" pattern projected on the background (hindsight tells me that the pattern was a bad idea). Small silver reflectors (from poster boards) were stuck on light stands to provide gradated specular & diffused highlights on the putter heads. This was to define the shape and bring the eye to the name and logo. Image is about 95% as shot with a little post to fine tune it. Nik Viveza 2 (love the control points) & Lightroom 5 for post.

Strobis info: 2-Elinchrom 500's & 1-Elinchrom 1000. Sync via cord and optical. Don't forget several 4X5 Polaroid test images. Yes, it would be a lot easier today with high end digital capture.

Camera: Horseman 4X5 LXC w/Nikor 210mm f/5.6 @ f/16. Fujichrome Velvia RVP.

Scanner: Epson 850 @ 800dpi. Click on image for larger than life view.

My New Lens, Nikon 35mm f/1.8 G DX, Just arrived this is the first shot of it, other test shot will be post soon. [See all Photos with this lens.]

First Impression: A WONDERFUL CHOICE

This little "Potato Bush" flower was plucked from the container bush on my patio. After all of the off road images that was just up loaded, I was looking for a challenge. Besides its been awhile since using my studio lights. The steam is to flimsy to photograph outdoors when getting this close. Flowers are always moving with the slightest breeze.

This little puppy is just over an inch inch in diameter, not that much to look at in reality, so it was play around time with the macro lens, strobes and software - not trying to go over the top, just making it a little "artsy".

Strobist info: 2- Elinchrom strobes and a reflector. To CL was an Elinchrom 1000, w/medium honeycomb & barn doors. A diffusion screen was between it and the flower. To CR, was only a white reflector. From CR and beyond the set up, was an Elinchrom 500 w/snoot, creating a circle of light behind the flower, on a maroon cloth background. That's it - keeping it simple.

Post: Macphun Luminar w/ layering in several filters. Lightroom 5 for basic set up. Crop is 1:1 ratio, taking off from top and bottom only - full frame otherwise.
