A set of 22 sepia photographs all datestamped on the reverse 31 March 1939. They came in an envelope from Jerome Ltd of Kings Cross Road London that was addressed to Miss Sear. From other photographs of the same girl her first name can be identified as Marjorie.

First shoot for JD, and he stepped into it like a pro. We started with natural light to keep things relaxed, then shifted into a more sculpted look using the Godox AD600 and a Phottix modifier. Shot mostly on the Nikon Z8 with the 85mm f/1.2, tethered to Capture One on the iPad. Mixed in a few frames on the Fuji GFX for added depth and tone. Simple setup, strong energy — the kind of session that reminds me why I love doing this.

Originally shot against a white background I extracted Kara and made my own background. Shooting against white is good for digital backgrounds. I have a ton of them but this one is homemade.

I was really out of practice so had to re-learn how to do this. That's part of the reason it took me so long to get these posted.

It's pretty simple but the hair is the big challenge.

Model Kara, shot at Ikonix Studio 506. Original image captured against white background and replaced with various digital backgrounds and a digital border.

I'm not sure if this emerald green background meshes with Kari's attire but I like it. I added a slight vignette to all these. Maybe I over do the vignetting but I can't seem to help myself. I like it too much :Þ

Kara shot at Ikonix Studio against white background. The colored window background is a purchased digital background. I modified it a bit though by copying the background layer, brightening it and then blending it with the original with the multiply effect. I think that makes it a litte more dramatic.

I like Kara's pose for this. And she's youthful enough to pass this off as a senior portrait.

In hind-sight this photo could have benifited from a hair light.

I had the privilege of shooting some images of double-neck guitarist Ian Ethan Case after his performance Saturday night at Studio 99

For most of the images I wanted a "street lamp" style look, so I had the Fabulous Sara hold a gridded strobe directly over Ian's head in the studio. I think these images look pretty sharp.

Big thanks to Ian for sticking with us past Midnight and letting us take some portraits!
