Fourth Grade Expressionist Painting:
These Emotion Compositions are inspired by the work of the Expressionist Art Movement. Students brainstormed common elements in paintings that lead the viewer to feel particular emotions, including color, symbol, brush stroke style, size and movement. After choosing an emotion, fourth grade students made extensive lists and sketches of all the visual elements that would help express that feeling. Can you guess the emotion of each painting without looking at the title?
Ask yourself: How might you paint each emotion differently, yet still express the essence of the idea to your audience?
Calligraphy ink tests by Haoyuan Guo on papers made and decorated through the month; book by Aimee Lee
When I think of my future job, I want it to possess characteristics similar to me. I want it to be fun, yet informative. The text on the bottom is important because it provides the functionality of the poster; it is meant to be taken literally. December 16, 2010 is the rough date of my completion of college, at which point I will be looking for a 9-5 job, preferably doing event promotions. The Duke Energy Center is the convention center, a location of major events in my hometown, which I might return to upon graduation. The “21” is the number of the lecture in the series, which also represent the approximate size of my desired company. The background text lists the attributes and task I want in a company, while serving as texture. The central image, octopus, represents the multifold role I want to have at my employer. It, also, represents my ability to multi-task. The ink splatters portray my fun and juvenile side. I chose to do an overall playful, youthful design, that also has functionality because I believe this represent me, and what I would want in a corporation.
The display was designed by the students 3D Visual Mdse instructor (moi), but it was the students responsibility to implement the display from the plan-o-gram and directives given to them. They were also given some clothing, and they supplied others. I asked them to style the mannequins the way that felt appropriate. The space can be difficult to work in because it's only 30" deep.
