After the beam of light goes through the diffraction grating, it continues straight through for the central bright fringe. There are also a number of other spots that show up, the so called bright fringes. You calculate these by counting from the central fringe. We call the number of each fringe m. So the two next to center are m=1, then m=2, etc.

This landscape picture shows the organization of many parts of the ecosystem of North Creek Forest at different levels of size and complexity. The vertical structure of the different plants and trees reveals the complexity of single organisms below to the communities above and all around. My main focus of this image was the dead tree on the right showing the difference in the vertical structure next to the thriving trunk and full tree to its left and in the distance. In the bottom right there is a different species that adds a different height of structure.
