On June 17, 2026, Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to a fire at a large cold-storage facility at 1400 S Los Palos Street in Boyle Heights. Firefighters found fire visible from the roof of the 1,000' x 500' structure and initially engaged in offensive suppression before a suspected ammonia leak prompted a shift to a defensive posture.
The building's size prevented effective ground access, leading crews to deploy helicopters for water drops, an approach not typically used in structure fires. LAFD fire companies, hazmat specialists, drone pilots, and USAR teams coordinated extensively with partner agencies over several days of suppression and overhaul operations.
The incident prompted evacuations and shelter-in-place orders for the surrounding community, along with extended air and water quality monitoring as crews worked to bring the fire under control.

Between those two metal boxes with the yellow stripes, there was a bus structure, you know, the little hut you can hide under when it's raining and you're waiting for the bus. Then the Pittsburgh Steelers won the Super Bowl and the hooligans decided it could not stand.
I lomo-tized this shot because frankly, it was boring without it.
