Dispatched at 2:46pm on the afternoon of April 12, 2025, firefighters soon arrived at the 3100 block of East Fairmount Street to find heavy black smoke pouring from the rear of a property.
The bulk of the fire and smoke was due to an automobile and carport burning behind a row of single-story bungalows, but the intense flames had already spread to a neighboring single family dwelling as well. Additional companies were requested, while crews on scene worked to contain fire on both properties and prevent any further spread. 38 firefighters achieved a knockdown of all fire within 22 minutes, enabling the Incident Commander to cancel the additional incoming companies.
All occupants were evacuated from the affected structures and assessed by paramedics on scene, with no injuries reported.

Hawker Nimrod's were invented in the 1930's to operate from Royal Navy Aircraft Carriers, they were Fighters designed to Defend the Fleet from Enemy Aircraft. Originally known as the ''Norn'' the Nimrod was developed from the Hawker Fury Biplane Fighter, it has longer wings, and was fitted with special equipment, such as 'flotation boxes' in the wings and fuselage. The type entered service with the Fleet Air Arm in 1932, replacing the ''Fairey Flycatcher''. All Nimrod's could be adapted to become either Landplanes with wheel undercarriage or Seaplanes with twin floats.
In 1933, a total of 36 MK.II Nimrod's were built, they were equipped with more powerful Engines, swept wings, arrester hooks to help them to land on shorter Aircraft Carrier Decks, and other modifications. Nimrod's remained in front-line service with the Fleet Air Arm until 1939 and were declared obsolete in 1941.
Hawker Nimrod MK.II K3661 was built in 1934 and issued to No.802 Squadron in 1936, she was probably sent to RAF Lympne in 1939 as a ground instructional airframe and was later transferred to the Air Training Corps in Ashford, Kent. Found on a rubber tip in Ashford in 1972, the Aircraft fuselage, wings and tail unit were stored by the RAF Museum at Henlow and Cosford until sold to ''Aero Vintage Limited'' in 1991.
Restoration for the ''Historic Aircraft Collection'' began in 1992 using several small parts from K3661 held by the Kent ''Battle of Britain Museum'' at Hawkinge and a Rolls-Royce Kestrel Engine from Canada. A large number of technical drawings were obtained from Denmark, were local production of MK.I's had been planned but never begun. K3661 returned to the air at Duxford in 2006 and is the only airworthy Nimrod MK.II in the world.

Saturday's monsoon theater began with a downburst falling on the northern White Tank Mountains.
It's odd to me how little lightning I've seen from the storms this year. This storm rolled west for almost a solid hour and didn't produce a single bolt.

This ornate Second Empire structure was designed by architect Samuel Hannaford and built in 1884. It is a jewel among the Hoosier State's many outstanding limestone courthouses from the 19th Century. It is one of my favorite courthouses in Indiana.
The edifice was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
Vigo County, pronounced VEE-go, is located in western Indiana between Indianapolis and Effingham, Illinois. The small city of Terre Haute, pronounced TEAR-uh HOHT, is a great town that is home to Indiana State University.
Inspired by fpsurgeon and subblue. Geometry built in Structure Synth. Messed around with cameras and shaders in Sunflow. Final result took 10 hours or so on my 2Ghz laptop. I thought about enabling caustics but maybe with less busy geometry :).

Niagara Falls Fire Department was dispatched to the 700 block this morning around 08:18 for a fully involved working structure fire.
All of the occupants made it out of the house safe. A dog was still inside of the house when a Niagara Falls police officer arrived on scene. He ran into the burning house to rescue the dog.
Red Cross is assisting the family. No word yet on the cause of the fire.
I decided to give Image Based lighting a try here. After waiting over 2 days for the finished product, I have to share it... Maybe I should stop using reflective surfaces for everything and it wouldn't take so long...
