A macro closeup shot of peacock plumage. Fascinating to see the arrangements and the amount of details you get to see.

Dortechs Structural Silicone Glazed Curtain Wall systems can be used to create almost perfectly flush-fitted glass facades. The appearance of structural glazing is achieved by using profiles that are only visible on the room side. From the outside, only the glazing and the slender shadow joints are visible. The gap between each piece of glass is approximately 25mm (this can vary) in comparison to the 50 – 60mm site line prevalent with traditional, visible grid curtain wall systems.There are two main types of SSG system Dortech offers;
The first is based upon specialist double glazed units which are manufactured to include an SSG spacer bar which incorporates a ‘U’ channel. Typically the spacer bar will have a bronze anodised finish. Structural silicone is used to bond each piece of glass to the spacerbar. Once the curtain wall grid has been erected on site, these specialist glass units are delivered to site and locked into the grid using metal toggles which are designed specifically for each respective aluminium suppliers curtain wall system. Finally a compatible silicone is applied over the top of the vertical and horizontal joints to create a flush finish.
The second utilises traditional double glazed units manufactured with structural silicone. Aluminium carrier frames are then bonded around the perimeter of each piece of glass with structural silicone. On site, the perimeter frame is locked into the curtain wall grid and then silicone is applied over the gap between each piece of glass.
Please note, the SSG Curtain wall sysems cannot accomodate significant structural movements.
Dortech has carried out a number of projects utilising the following SSG Curtain wall systems:

After dropping off two lenses for repair/cleaning at Strauss in NE DC I caught sight of some creative metalwork on the side of a building near the north side of the 8th St and H St NE intersection.
More heavily processed than I usually lean towards but I was trying to evoke the flag with the heavy vignette, what do you think?

In the bottom left corner of this image you can see the temporary shoring that was used to support the end of the first set of girders-until the next girder was attached and was able to rest on the abutment. Each step in the girder placement has to be planned and engineered to ensure that the structure is stable and ready to support the next girder to be placed.

This simple and symetrical Victorian cottage is stunning! If the brick is structural -- and not just a veneer -- then it is a very rare find indeed. In it's favor, the brick looks old and weathered. However, the brick in the pediments and gable, the wood floor of the porch with concrete steps, and the uniformity of the bricks, say veneer. Also, if the brick were structural, you'd think there would be evidence of earthquake damage and settling over the years. I can't decide if it's a veneer or just a very well-built brick house. I'll let you decide.
There were quite a few of these around the temple. Rather than hinder the tree's direction, the growth is actively supported.

Temporary structural supports called "walers" have been installed now that headhouse excavation efforts have reached the first level.
Or is this perhaps enhanced reality? Hmm...

No 'shopping trickery here. Nor a double exposure. Just a plain photo.
And another one here.
Here's a video that shows what went on from start to finish.
Alarming fissures are opening up at the east end of the church, plasterwork has been removed accordingly to reveal the extent of the cracks.
My final church of the day, St Bartholomew's at the virtually non-existent village of Foston, a church hidden away behind trees on a quiet rural lane, very easily missed. I arrived to find the church being stewarded by a nice lady who was about to lock it up again so my timing was fortunate indeed!
The church looks small at first sight and for good reason, having been truncated on three sides, a shrinking population over the centuries having resulted in a shrinking church! The biggest impact has been the loss of the original chancel, the present east wall roughly marking where the chancel once began. The south aisle too has gone, although its arcade remains clearly visible inside, and the tower is a peculiar oblong shape as a result of the collapse its western face in the 18th century and the subsequent reduction in size when it was rebuilt.
Inside it becomes clear how much earlier the origins of this building are, since the north arcade is Norman work, but the wall it carries is evidently older still, as witnessed by the surviving head of a former window above the easternmost arch, presumably part of the church's Anglo Saxon predecessor. The church was somewhat restored in the Victorian period but there are still things to enjoy, most noticeably the large 17th century Faunt tomb in the north aisle bearing effigies of the deceased and his wife, somewhat rustic in quality but still of great interest.
Foston church is usually kept locked when not in use for services. Currently the east wall is causing some concern as cracks have opened up on either side suggesting that this part of the building was never properly bonded with the original parts after the old chancel was demolished and this end of the nave infilled. This will be a heavy burden and a major challenge for the small community that still uses this church, we can only hope some assistance will be given before the situation gets any worse.

First responders from across the country were in Virginia Beach for a massive structural collapse training exercise hosted by the Virginia Beach Fire Department and Virginia Task Force 2. The annual School was held at the sprawling complex of crawl spaces and staged disaster zones representing different scenarios – things first responders have seen and experienced first-hand. This course gives urban search and rescue teams a chance to practice their skills. More than 160 people took part in the hands-on training lasting for 8 days with students coming from as far as San Francisco, California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware.

And the girder is gently lifted, assuming you can say "gently" when referring to a girder that is 145 feet long, weighing 128,000 pounds.

This 6' x 13 ½' pipe support structure is made of carbon steel and also includes beams, plates, and angles. Several of these structures were made for sites in Texas that convert landfill gas to energy.
