(Metallic-green tanager / Tangara verdinegra)

Metallic-green Tanagers inhabit humid montane forests in the Andes in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. They are mostly blue-green in color, although strongly they appear to be blue or green can change, depending upon light conditions.

Their diet consists almost entirely of arthropods and fruits. Metallic-green Tanagers are usually found in pairs or small groups and often join flocks consisting of multiple tanager species.

There are two recognized subspecies of the Metallic-green Tanager (Storer 1970):

-labradorides Boissinneau 1840; type locality Santa-Fé de Bogota [Colombia]

Occurs in western and central Colombia and in western Ecuador (Storer 1970, Hilty and Brown 1986, Ridgely and Greenfield 2001).

-chaupensis Chapman 1925; type locality Chaupe, Cajamarca, Peru

Occurs in southeastern Ecuador and in northern Peru (Storer 1970, Ridgely and Greenfield 2001, Schulenberg et al. 2007).

The pilot tender of the Belgian Pilotage Service "Pieter de Coninck" has brought the sea pilots aboard the two sea giants sailing in the background and is sailing back to the pilot harbour of the town of Flushing (Vlissingen)

The aluminimum hull is designed in such a way that operations can continue up to a wind force of 8 Beaufort at a wave height of 2,5 to 4 meters.

The ship is propelled by 2 jet foils and has a high course stablity and maneuverability so that the pilot can board the ship to be piloted in complete safety, without the ship having to slow down.

The cruising speed of this pilot tender is 28 knots ( 50 km per hour)

Elle avait été vu le premier jour que je suis allé à la rencontre des parulines de la première petite chute du ruisseau d'Angrignon. À mon arrivé elle avait déjà quitté les lieux. Dès que Jocelyn Bernier m'a avisé tôt le matin de sa présence, grand merci Jocelyn, j'espérais qu'elle s'y retrouve toujours en fin d'après-midi, au moment où je planifiais ma visite du jour. Et bien elle y était encore. Pur plaisir!

Ma première rencontre avec cette paruline fait partie de mes impérissables souvenirs de mes premières années d'ornithologie. Un rayon de soleil m'était soudainement apparu sur une branche basse au Jardin botanique de Montréal il y a 25 ans... Doux souvenir...

Strong gate - weak fence! I don’t know what this gate is protecting because the road back into the property seems to be the “road less traveled.” I’ll tell you one thing, by the time one gets finished reading all the signs the dog will be upon you. Apparently, you can’t do anything on this property. Everything fun is forbidden - how boring to live there. They do make signs now that say ‘Trespassers will be Violated’. At least a sign like that is good for a laugh.

There are several ways into this secret property. You could just climb the gate or cut the wire on the fence. I don’t believe that there is a dog, but I’m not that curious to see what is back this overgrown road. If it is a pristine Jaguar in a barn, I will be kicking myself later. If there is indeed a dog, you would see him coming a long ways away and be back over the gate before he gets in attack mode. HFF
