It's Saturday morning, November 1, 2008... the last days of this election campaign, some are feeling worn out and are concerned to say they just can't give anymore... then there is an event like today that was so different, so refreshing and invigorating... Danny Devito, Rhea Perlman and Jon "Bowzer" Bauman toured Southeast Florida venues, encouraging people to vote early for Barack Obama, for people to get out the early vote for Barack Obama and to get out the vote on election day itself for Barack Obama. What was really amazing was that Devito, Perlman and Bowzer ended their events by actually driving people to the polls to vote if they had identified themselves as not having voted yet. So, after leaving the Cocowood Lakes Clubhouse, the carpool rock-n-rolled all the way to the early voting polls at the Public Library on Hagan Ranch Road in Delray Beach.
Standing at 4' 1", Danny DeVito is ten feet tall in my book. He is an actor, director and producer, that we all may best know him from his character, Louie De Palma, on the TV series, "Taxi". You've also seen him in wonderful films like, "Romancing the Stone", "The Jewel of the Nile", "Ruthless People", "Throw Mama From the Train", "War of the Roses", "Other People's Money", "Tin Men", "Twins", "Junior", "Batman Returns", "Renaissance Man", "The Rainmaker", "The Big Kahuna" and his appearnaces on Saturday Night Live. Right now Danny plays the character Frank Reynolds, in the hysterical sitcom "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" on FX which once you take a look at, you'll have so much fun that you'll be hooked. Danny DeVito is also an outspoken Democrat and supporter of the OneVoice Movement, a non-profit organization that strives to empower moderate Israelis and Palestinians to take a more assertive role in resolving their conflict.
Rhea Perlman, an active and outspoken Democrat, has received ten Emmy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series "Cheers", winning the Emmy four times. She starred in the sitcom "Pearl" and was featured in the TV drama "Kate Brasher". Rhea played Jacqueline Kennedy in the TV film "How to Marry a Billionaire: A Christmas Tale", the character Honey in the hilarious film "Canadian Bacon", the grumpy shopkeeper in "Packin It In" and she also played opposite her real-life husband Danny DeVito in the film "Matilda". Right now you can see Rhea Perlman in the role of Bertha in the West End of London, in the comedy "Boeing Boeing".
Jon "Bowzer" Bauman was a recognizable member of the group Sha Na Na, singing barritone as he taunted the audiences while flexing his muscles. Bauman currently tours extensively with his group, Bowzer and the Stingrays, performing at fairs, amusement parks, cruise ships and conventions all over the world. They currently headline "Bowzer's Ultimate Doo-Wop Party."
Talk about inspirational... this event was so out of the ordinary and so special because these incredible celebrities took so much of their time and made so much of an effort to convince undecided voters to get up and go with them to the polls and cast their vote for Barack Obama.
Always striving to go places not many others have is one of my constant goals when it comes to railfanning. I don't see any fun in going to the places that hundreds of unoriginal, boring sheep have milked dry to oblivion such as the iron range, LS&I, Trona, or the Columbia River gorge. On my recent fully self-funded trip (springowski could never), I wanted to explore the deep south and its plethora of rarely documented shortlines, as well as some actually enjoyable class 1 action that the two eastern roads can't provide. Among my main targets was Alabama and Gulf Coast and their newly acquired fleet of GEs. One of those, ex Conrail C40-8W #4055, recieved G&W's 125th anniversary heritage paint. I thankfully timed my trip while it was being used on the turn job from Columbus, Mississippi to Boligee, Alabama and back. Here it is paired with a Columbus and Greenville SD40 as they build their train to head south. This is seriously one of the best looking engines I've ever seen. Hats off to G&W for doing this shit. The train would wait a few minutes as Golden Traingle would depart in front of them, and they themselves would make Watco's Alabama Southern wait at their diamond in the southern part of town. Columbus is an extremely underrated little railroad hotspot with 4 different shortlines and 2 class 1s running locals to town. More deep south content is to come.

1865, als ein verheerender Brand große Teile des Marktes von Admont verwüstete, wurde auch ein Großteil der Abtei ein Raub der Flammen, darunter auch die Stiftskirche. Nach dem Brand wurden die Kirche und das Stift wieder aufgebaut, obwohl in vereinfachter Form. In den Jahren von 1866 bis 1869 vom Architekten Wilhelm Bücher, zum Teil auf den romanischen und gotischen Fundamenten, neu errichtet, ist sie dem Regensburger Dom nachempfunden, und der erste neugotische Sakralbau Österreichs. Am 12. September 1869 erfolgte unter Abt Zeno Müller die Kirchenweihe.
Even in winter one can find many motives to take a photo of. In post processing I played a bit with colours and texture to make it look less dull.
Auch im Winter kann man viele Motive für ein Foto finden. In der Nachbearbeitung habe ich etwas mit Farben und Textur gespielt um es weniger flau wirken zu lassen.
I have heard that always setting new goals and striving for new heights can somehow be defeating. But nature is constantly setting new goals. The universe isn’t static. It’s ever changing. Those changes create new obstacles and opportunities. Life strives to overcome the obstacles thrown in its path. It’s more important to not get too upset when goals are not fulfilled. There is opportunity to diversify one’s approach and try again. The biggest obstacle to fulfilling one’s goals is probably simply a failure to try. Paralysis by analysis has thwarted many a dreamer. Do your best to understand the obstacles. Practice your passion. Learn from your errors. Don’t be afraid to reach for new heights. #Giraffe
Still striving for that perfect black and white flower shot, whatever that might be. This isn't it, but I like it.
I am not a "flower photographer", but I do enjoy the challenge of getting a good flower shot. And while I don’t always know what kind of flower I am shooting, on a good day, I can usually tell a rose from a daisy.
The Art Nouveau movement brought a new style to visual arts and architecture in Europe and Prague. It was developed by a brilliant and energetic generation of artists and designers. Art Nouveau designers believed Art should work in harmony to create a total work of art in buildings, furniture, textiles, clothes, and jewelry; all should conform to the principles of Art Nouveau and Art should strive to be a part of everyday life. There are many fine examples of Art Nouveau architecture in Prague.

Balance, something so important in life and which I strive for but so difficult to reach at the same time.
T-Rap is a good example of balance in toy photography. With his big head and his joints getting looser with time, it's sometimes quite a challenge to photograph him.

We all strive to improve over time, be it a personal goal or a photo of a subject. The photo on the left is my first photo of a Marbled Godwit taken in Winderemere Basin in Hamilton in 2017. The bird was too far away. I used a 2x converter on 500mm lens to maximize the reach. The bird was barely recognizable from its shape and pink at the base of its beaks. It made my life list then. The second photo in the middle of a Marbled Godwit was taken in Stayner Sewage Lagoon near Barrie on May 27, 2019. The bird was closer, and the photo was better; however, there's still plenty of room to improve. The photo on the extreme right was taken in Tommy Thompson Park in Toronto on Aug 27, 2019. This time I managed to get a lot better picture with clear identification of a Marbled Godwit. Now, the question is am I going to stop taking photos of a Marbled Godwit? Most likely not, if the opportunity for betterment is there, so will be I.
This was taken in the Almudena Cathedral, Madrid. Although in the neo-Gothic style, it was completed in 1993 and took a hundred years to build.
It strives to impress by its sheer size. It is huge.
But what caught my eye as I walked round was this wall of light viewed through an arched opening.
Wonderful colours from the light streaming through the pop-art stained glass windows.
Now THAT’S impressive.
