I still remember this tree years later, and it took me much longer to process this shot than I'd expected. It's not perfect, but it conveys the message I felt well when I first saw this guy striving for life in old age and after weathering many storms. It's on an exposed ridgeline in Patagonia, and as anyone who's been there during a storm knows... this guy has seen some insane conditions and lived through it all.
A lone flower bringing vibrant yellow and purple to the surrounding sea of greens. Summer still has some colours to give yet!

... And here I am again, with another photo from my last sunrise session at the beautiful, peaceful meanders of the river Adda, just downstream the Eastern arm of Lake Como, just before the river leaves the last hills to patiently delve into the Padan Plain. A little, precious world blessed with wetlands and strange, lazy bends and widenings of the river that thwart productive utilization of the area, safeguarding it.
It was just another clean, bright, absolutely cloudless sunrise (we have been experiencing mostly clean, dry weather for months now, leading to a severe drought, with the Adriatic sea flowing upstream the river Po for some 15 km as of today). Yet the early morning was gifted with a beautiful golden light that made the springy colours of the fresh buds literally burst with life. This is another detail of that amazing place I have captured by zooming in a bit, so enthralled by the beauty all around me to forget to put the lens hood on. This quiet corner of our much troubled world has the potential to heal my soul - for a while, at least. And I hope that it stirs positive feelings inside you as well - this is my gift for this weekend.
Some words about the title, that would strive for having both a literal (the weather) and a metaphorical meaning (which is totally up to you). As my fellows addicted to Douglas Adams novels would have got right in a split second, the title of this photo is related to the entry about the Earth in The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. After some 15 years or so of conscientious and extensive field research by one of its collaborators the editors, the Editors resolved to publish a somewhat drier entry:
The Earth - Mostly harmless.
Two words. Full stop. A clean, nice, simple answer to the Fermi paradox - after all, who would be interested in visiting a planet that is merely "mostly harmless"?

I have processed this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-2.0/-1.0/0/+1.0/+2.0 EV] by luminosity masks with the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal" exposure shot).
Along the journey - post-processing always is a journey of discovery to me - I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic to give a slight tonal boost to several parts of the scene. As usual, I gave the finishing touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.

A short wander through the Rose Garden gives one a view and aroma like this - taken at Polsden Lacy . A snippet from the NT write up on the Rose Garden ---
The Edwardian walled Rose Garden boasts well over 2,000 roses, including over more than 100 rambling roses on the pergola. The rest of the roses in the centre beds are made up of around 35 different varieties of hybrid tea, floribunda and hybrid musk types, all in bloom from June late May to late August and beyond. We’ve been working to improve the soil health in recent months and also replaced aging and struggling rose plants in several beds, as we strive to turn Polesden’s rose garden into a true showstopper. We also have plans to replace the pergola, which is starting to show its age. We will do this in phases, likely in the Autumn across several years, so as to protect the roses and ensure the pergola continues to support its glorious display for our visitors to enjoy.
The Fox Oakland Theatre is a concert hall and a former movie theater, located in Downtown Oakland, California. In the 1920s theaters across the nation strived to be more than just a typical building. This theater's interior with rich colors and intricate gold accents resembles an Indian temple. It closed in 1965, was refurbished in the 2000s, and reopened as a concert venue in 2009.
I processed a balanced and a paintery HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

The Pallas Cat, also known as the Manul, is a rare and enigmatic feline species that inhabits the high-altitude tibetan plateau . With its distinctive appearance and elusive nature, this cat has captured the fascination of wildlife enthusiasts and researchers alike.
The Pallas Cat is characterized by its stocky build, long fur, and expressive face. Its round pupils and low-set ears give it a unique look that sets it apart from other wild cats. This species thrives in harsh environments such as rocky terrains and alpine meadows, where it can blend seamlessly with its surroundings.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the Pallas Cat is its solitary behavior. Unlike many other feline species that are social animals, these cats prefer to lead a solitary lifestyle. They are highly territorial creatures that mark their territory using scent glands located on their cheeks.
Due to their elusive nature and remote habitat, studying Pallas Cats has proven to be challenging for researchers. As a result, there is still much to learn about their behavior, reproductive habits, and overall population status.
Conservation efforts are crucial for protecting this rare species from further decline. The destruction of their natural habitat due to human activities poses a significant threat to their survival. Additionally, illegal hunting for fur trade continues to be a major concern.
In conclusion, the Pallas Cat remains an enigmatic creature whose rarity adds to its allure. As we strive to understand more about this fascinating feline species, it becomes increasingly important to protect them from threats posed by human activities. Only through conservation efforts can we ensure the survival of these captivating creatures for future generations to appreciate and admire.
Buona serata

"Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
As we enter into those Golden years together, we have set goals that we both strive for in retirement. These past two weeks some of those dreams have begun with a short camping trip together in quiet spots where we met very little people. It was wonderful to know we enjoyed each other's company enough to not miss having others around. We shared similar passions and talked about simple plans going forward. It was an amazing time away.
What is this black figure doing by the frozen canal?
Is he the Pyrphoros Titan, the Fire-Bringer,who holds the fire in his hand?
It must be Προμηθεύς (Prometheus) ,a Titan of Greek mythology, who stole fire from the Gods on Mount Olympus & brought it as a gift to mortals, marking the birth of human Culture & the beginning of Civilization with a rebellion against the Unjust Power in order to overthrow the system ...
His name means "Forethinker,a really meaningful Theophoric name.He became a figure who represented human striving and the quest for scientific knowledge.

Oswald strives to be ordinary. You think all wizard workshops are rickety and colourful? Well you are wrong there my friend. For you have obviously never meet Oswald, who is the one wizard in all the land who prefers the laws of gravity to imagination.
Entry for R1 of the LCBTC.
Hello everybody, its been a while. And it may seem I have been rather inactive but in truth I have been busy building things that just cannot be posted yet...
I don't mind this, it's not really a wizards workshop that much. No bright colours and wonky angles (hense the name). Oh well, hopefully i will do better next round (if I get through that is :p)
Hope you enjoy and C&C Needed.

Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one morning while walking the Endless Wall Trail in New River Gorge National Park & Preserve. This setting is looking to the northeast from Diamond Point Overlook. With this image, I focused on the look across that ‘endless wall,’ capturing some of the cliff face present along with the forest of trees that seemingly went on to a distant horizon. By metering for the slightly brighter areas in the tree leaves, I felt I was able to capture enough of the highlights, while later being able to pull out the more shadowed areas without a color cast. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 4. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 4 where I added a Polarization, Foliage and Skylight filter for that last effect on the image captured.
I strive to get shots full frame. It's not always possible when the birds are too far away. I hope you know what I mean.

“All strive for victory. But not all understand what it truly is. To a soldier or pilot on the line, victory is surviving the current battle. To a politician, victory is an advantage one can bring to a bargaining table. To a warrior, victory is driving an enemy from the field of battle, or bringing him to surrender.
Sometimes victory is greater than the warrior could ever hope for. Sometimes it is more than he is able to hear.”
- Thrawn
It all started almost two months ago with an idea. Make something for May 4th (I’m late, I know, but cut me some slack). Me and Jan, the Creator are both big fans of the Imperial architecture seen in the Star Wars universe and wanted to do something large in size. After some hours of researching, looking through many concept arts and designs, the plans were put together and we set out to build our creations.
~ Platform ~
The starting point for me here was the platform on which the custom Tie Fighter (designed by Jerac) and many minifigs are standing on. One piece of concept art / Imperial structure we found was a large landing platform on Kashyyyk. To get the shaping right, a combination of corner slopes, hinges and many larger tiles were used to get the look. Since the surrounding area was to be terrain, I went with Dark Orange as the color for the ground. I purposefully left this area more flat and basic to leave attention towards the base. I also wanted a small area below the platform to store speeders which also helps break up the bottom area, giving it some action.
~ Base ~
The base itself was built in two main sections and some medium sized segments at the top. Walls here uses various tiles in LBG and DBG to form this Imperial architecture design. Was quite a challenge later on with the lack of tiles in certain areas so I had to get creative in how I would spread them. Instead of just using regular tile, I also made use of sandwhich tiles, corner faucet cut tiles and some snot to built up this area. Lots of other elements were used for detail including some DBG frames that I attached to tiles to create this column in the middle wall. The key thing while working on this was to keep a balance of simplicity and detail, something that can get lost while working on a larger creation. As we get to the top, you can see more detail and extras, like crates and dishes that populate this area.
~ Minifigs ~
The last thing I want to discuss is the minifigs used throughout the build. The Imperial selection of officers, troopers and crew is very extensive so once again, keeping a balance was important. Me and Jan wanted to include characters like Grand Admiral Thrawn and Moff Tarkin to give these creations a bit more purpose. Perhaps they’re here to inspect something new, here for a strategy session, the point is these two give a presence, even with being two small minifigs. The Death Troopers additionally work well to complement those, giving you once again the feeling that there are things at work here.

Come my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world
for my purpose holds to sail beyond the sunset.
And though we are not now that strenght which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will.
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
Alfred Lord Tenysson (1809-1892)
...
Venid amigos
No es tarde
para buscar un mundo nuevo,
pues sueño con navegar
más allá del crepúsculo
y, aunque no tengamos
la fuerza que antaño
movió cielos y tierra,
Somos lo que somos:
un mismo temple
de corazones heróicos
debilitados por el tiempo, pero
voluntariosos para luchar,
buscar y encontrar
y no rendirse.
Alfred Lord Tenysson
Que vuestros deseos se cumplan en 2011!!!
