I make string (yarn) and dye it. It's my job!

It's a great job.

HMM!!!

....I refurbished & modified this $17 dreadnought guitar. Picked this up in an auction. The neck was broken. I made a new neck & headstock (Maple). fretboard (Black Walnut), bridge (Black Walnut), bone nut & saddle, and new pick guard. Replaced the old tuning pegs and installed new fret wires. 5 string to play in open G tuning, because of my left index finger index is gone due to an accident years ago. I named this guitar "Song Sparrow" because of the woodburning on it; the bird, feather and footprints on the fretboard.

That's the cord to my new kazoo, which I use to get animals' attention. Whitey and Patches (and their sister Lilly Pad) are available to adopt at The Cat Connection, in Brighton, Massachusetts. They're one year old.

finally finished the quilt i started in JULY 2007. jeepers, i'm slow. :P

it's the first quilt top i ever made, but the second quilt i've finished. the first quilt i actually finished was poppy's quilt, which i made a couple weeks before she was born, in august 2008.

the backing is hot pink polka dots (obviously!) and the binding is some leftover marimekko fabric i had from making

this wallhanging...the same marimekko fabric is featured throughout the quilt. it's the appelsiini print.

the rest of the fabrics throughout are, by and large, vintage, ones i collected over the years. the backing fabric was new, as was the bright pink corduroy, and that orange with fuchsia dots, too. but most of the rest was found at thrift stores around the country, mostly ones i picked up when living in or visiting florida.

inspirations? that craft in america program on pbs, denyse schmidt, the fabrics themselves...for starters.

Tying down the Xmas garland out front - HMM & HTT!

Guitars seen through a shop window.

A string of Bungalows at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui resort at sunset. This was taken several years ago, during my honeymoon to the islands of Moorea and Bora Bora in French Polynesia. The colors on these islands are unreal (as evidenced by some of my other posted pictures). When we were deciding where to go on the honeymoon, I convinced my wife that we should go somewhere awesome - your bank account may take a hit, but the memories are worth it! How many opportunities will you have in your life to go to Bora Bora, right? Anyway, we don't miss the money, and we had an amazing experience!

This was mt first trip with a DSLR (July 2012). I was always interested in taking pictures while backpacking, and finally used this trip as an excuse to upgrade. This isn't the best quality picture I've ever taken, but I needed to crop down significantly to get the view I wanted.

A female Baltimore Oriole visiting our yard, discovered some twine being used to hold some branches of a Smoke Tree in line. She is unravelling the fibers to bring back for nest building, Orioles weave hanging nests so string, long grass, fishing line....all works nicely to tie off the nest.. In this shot you can see that she has successfully started to unravel the twine....

Of course when I bring out my lights, half of the string doesn't work. Did I fix it before I put them away after the holidays? No. Do I feel like fixing them now? No.

All that glitters is not gold.

I love the juxtaposition of complexity and simplicity

Macro Monday - String

A mixture of 3 twine strings and 3 cotton strings, plaited and knotted.

To make it more colourful, using red and blue food colouring, I dyed one each of the types of strings and left one of each its natural colour !!

As I was walking around the rose garden I almost ran in to this spider, made me think he was trying to string me along. :)

at Planting Fields Arboretum...

A Macro Mondays submission on the topic "String".

This was such a cool location and I was so lucky that I got to take this shot while the weather was so calm that the reflections on the lake were so clear.

Literally, a minute after I took this shot a slight breeze started blowing and made it impossible to get any more reflections in the watter.

For this week's Macro Mondays challenge.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. I just love the resulting string of bokeh pearls that match her earring. Enjoy!

Knot in a piece of string on a felt heart decoration.

This came in the mail today :) Thank you so much for the plant, Drew!

Update: They still haven't formed into balls, so I'm guessing this is another kind of plant. Geez.

No matter how many times I shoot this it is always great to experiment with composition.

This was a rope dog toy. It has been shredded. Made art to say goodbye.

Monks playing with students at a combined school/monastery in Mandalay, Myanmar.

The Burmese game where children jump over a string is known as "Htong-htaung seik" or "Sein-nyo-htwey." In this traditional game, a horizontal string is held by two players at each end, creating a low arc above the ground. The other players take turns jumping over the string without touching it.

Butchers string, it was around our weekend beef joint, and has had 3hrs in a slow cooker. Strong and useful string for Macro Mondays theme 'STRING'.

This is a collaborative work between my dog Fritz and I. He shreds the rope & I take the pictures. This was a 2 inch thick 2 foot long dog tug rope; he shredded it to string in under two hours.

Watch for our upcoming collaboration on shredded cardboard boxes. (I’m not kidding.)

The D string of a guitar vibrating.

Lit with a Godox V860II in a mini soft box. The flash was in multi-flash mode. I plucked the string and shot as it vibrated. The flash fired 3 times, capturing three different exposures of the moving string.
