Rickety Victorian drainpipe needing more than bits of string and wire.

My friend Linn asked me to draw her a blog header.

Then I decided to re-draw everything and do this.

I gave it to her, too, so she can choose.

I don't have a good reason. I know it's quite unremarkable. I just really like it.

Oh yes, I do love string quilts! This one is made up out of the lovely Ruby line by Bonnie and Camille. Blogged here.

I'll comment on streams and everything later - super busy!

I don't know why but we don't make it to this beautiful location very often

3 string beads - all poymer of course!

Had not used my Nicca 5L for awhile, and had forgotten how nice the 50mm f2 Nikkor is. Also, having a separate viewfinder and rangefinder slowed things down, which was very satisfying. The winds downtown were incredibly gusty, up to 40 mph, so lots of steadying needed. At least the temps were warm enough not to have to wear gloves. Thanks to the flickerans who continue to inspire. I am constantly amazed how really talented you all are.

You can see more shots of this complex in my Valencia set.

Built for the HF Breakout Collab on Instagram.

I made this quilt for my son Evan.

And, of course, I had to get some of the City Hall Lights!

If you are curious about how this image relates to string theory, watch the "Five Flavours of String Theory" (Hour 2, chapter 8) and "Getting To One Theory" (Hour 3, chapter 3) at The Elegant Universe homepage. Available in quicktime and realvideo. The whole Elegant Universe movie is 3 hours (all of it available on the site) and is highly recommended if you're an interested layman.

(If you're in a hurry you can watch only "Getting to One Theory" and skip to 1/3 into the clip)

This is string - not wool yarn.

Heavy-duty nylon thread in various colors, for the "string" theme. Just for grins, I took this one using the Minolta 100mm macro lens from last week's photo, using the original Minolta bellows adapted to the Sony a6000. Individual threads are about 0.5mm diameter, and the width of the image is about 22mm, for a magnification of about 1.07. HMM!

Cooking string!

I was trying to use the word 'THEORY" for 'String Theory' but I couldn't get the string pieces small enough for the word to fit below 75mm/3". So I used Athol., and it is 73mm from bottom left of the A to bottom right of the L.

As I found out just six years ago, the name Athol is now important in my life!

Metal string a.k.a. wire rope.

The visible extent of the image is 3".

The bad thing about this is, the oxidization shows how often I change my strings.

All basted and ready to quilt. I just have not been in the quilting mood, hopefully soon.

This quilt took me nearly 8 months to finally get done. RELIEF! LOVE! It measures 62" by 51" (ish!)
