Designed for kids aged 6-10 years old, the STRIDER™ SUPER 16 (SS-1) No-Pedal Balance Bike is the ultimate bike for those young riders who are ready to venture off trail or perform tricks

and stunts that a heavier, more complicated pedal bike won’t allow.

The SUPER 16™ was designed and built based on the same, simple, lightweight, no-pedal design as the original Strider No-Pedal Balance Bike. It has a unique combination of features — the larger integrated footrests and ergonomic caliper handbrakes — making it the only bike of its size capable of pulling double duty as a teaching tool and stunt bike. It is the perfect starter bike for older kids who don’t yet know how to ride on two-wheels, while also designed to ride alongside skateboards, scooters and mountain bikes at skate parks and BMX tracks around the globe.

Making Waves

This photograph of a water strider demonstrates surface tension and wave interference. A water strider is small enough that the surface tension, which is the attractive force between molecules of a liquid, of the water is able to hold it up so that it does not sink. Male water striders vibrate their legs to create ripples in the water, and these ripples demonstrate wave interference. The waves that are farther away from the water strider demonstrate constructive interference, which occurs when crest meets crest and trough meets trough. Waves like this are in phase, and the result of this interference is a larger wave. On the other hand, destructive interference occurs when the crest of one wave hits the trough of another wave. Waves that meet in this manner are out of phase, and they cancel each other out. In this photograph, the water strider creates two sets of waves by vibrating his legs on both sides of his body. The intersection between these two sets of waves, which is at the center of the photograph, demonstrates destructive interference.

The Red Bull MiG-17F was built in Poland in 1959 and entered active service in the Polish Air Force as a Cold War warrior, patrolling the Iron Curtain for about 25 years until it was parked in a "bone yard" in Poland. The aircraft was purchased from the Polish Air Force in 1994 by a Phoenix, Arizona-based Polish immigrant, who imported 15 MiGs and a hangar full of parts for resale in the United States. Bill Reesman purchased the MiG in March 1994, two weeks after his first, Chinese-built MiG exploded and caught fire just after takeoff. The Polish aircraft was in terrible shape after being parked in a field for nine years, so Reesman had a team of 10 mechanics completely overhaul it over two months. Today it is meticulously maintained and is the best conditioned MiG-17F in the world.

During the late 1940s, the Cold War between the Free World and the Soviet Union escalated. During this period, the Soviet Union made great strides in developing new combat aircraft, which were equal in performance to those built in the West. These included the MiG-15, which flew for the first time in December of 1947 and was cleared for mass production a year later. The first production batch of the MiG-17s began leaving the factory during August of 1951. Early production MiG-17s were used primarily as air superiority day fighters and escort fighters. The MiG-17 was an outstanding aircraft for its time. American fighter pilots found the MiG-17 to be a maneuverable dog-fighter not to be taken lightly. In fact, the MiG-17 was so effective against American fighter pilots in Vietnam that the Navy created the Top Gun school, and the USAF created the Red Flag school to better train U.S. pilots in air-to-air combat.

The MiG-17F (F for Forsirovannyy-boosted or afterburner-boosted) was the widely produced variant of the MiG-17. The MiG can pull up to 8.0 Gs of force, putting an incredible amount of stress and strain on its pilot.

Small lion cub closely following its mum to a safe hiding place.

It shows I've been too busy the last few months: I 'discovered' more pics of the young lion cubs this weekend (after I posted the picture before this one), and there are quite a few good ones there...

They were so close to our vehicle (10m and less) that I had to swap lenses: the 300+1.7TC was simply too much. By the time the 120-300+1.4TC was on I hardly had time to zoom out, hence the missing rear end of the little fellow.

Spotted in Masai Mara, a lioness taking here three very young (~3 weeks) cubs to safe hiding in a dry river bed. We only had several seconds to enjoy the sight AND take some pictures of it...

Strider serves as a mobile production and post-production facility throughout the coastal waters of Southern and South Central Alaska (from Ketchikan to Kodiak). Strider is a Viking 74 Sport Fisher with the enclosed bridge (after all, we are talking about Alaska here) and a pair of 2000HP MTU Diesel engines. Typically cruising at 25-28 knots, Strider allows us to reach remote locations quickly, outrunning the weather when required.

Strider has all the latest electronics (Dual radar systems, dual depth finder systems, 360 degree Sonar, thermal imaging system, etc) and a full edit suite with a high-end MacPro system with FCP and REDcine to support dailies as well as rough editing. A 65” Panasonic Professional Plasma Display with 12-bit color supports reviewing of dailies.

For production Strider is equipped with an adjustable bow jib with a Cineflex mount. Most of the time, we leave the Cineflex gimbal mounted on the bow for weeks or months at a time, shooting from the comfort of the Wheelhouse where dual 24-inch monitors and a Leader waveform monitor enable us to capture perfect images. The bow jib can be adjusted so that the Cineflex gimbal can be positioned down near water level or 5 feet above the foredeck.

Strider also carries a 20-foot skiff (RIB) named Frodo. Frodo is also equipped with a bow jib, allowing us to sneak into shallow areas with a low profile to capture unique shots that have never been seen before.

Strider is also equipped to serve as a dive boat for underwater filming, with an on board compressor and storage for tanks. During the shooting of Icy Killers (Summer 2008) we often had three divers aboard, plus crew to operate the boat and cinematographers to shoot with the Cineflex or shore-based cameras – all at the same time.

Strider is currently in use during filming Accidental Quest for Enlightenment as well as several other features.

Major General John A. Logan is a public artwork by American artist Franklin Simmons, located at Logan Circle in Washington, D.C. The monument is an equestrian statue dedicated to American soldier and political leader John A. Logan.

This statue shows Logan upon his horse. In his proper left hand he holds the reins and in his proper right hand he holds a sword which is pointed downwards. Logan, wearing a long belted frock coat, boots, gloves and a hat, is shown with long hair and a long mustache. The horse strides forward with its proper right front foot raised.

The sculpture sits upon a bronze base, which itself rests upon a low stone base. Each corner of the bronze base features an American Eagle as a symbol of patriotism. The front lower portion is adorned with palm leaves, which symbolize victory, and surround the inscribed word LOGAN (which appears on both east and west sides of the base).

The bronze base features reliefs depicting historical moments in Logan's life. The west side of the bronze features Logan, dressed in a military uniform, standing with fellow officers who are meeting to discuss the Civil War. To Logan's proper right is a table with an open map on it with three officers looking at it, with one pointing to the map. Logan stands with his proper left hand on the map, looking away, while the other officers look toward him. The east side of the bronze depicts Logan standing with Vice President Chester A. Arthur. The scene shows Arthur swearing in Logan as a senator in front of a group of other senators. Logan is shown raising his proper right arm while Arthur raises his left and holds a book. The other two sides of the bronze base feature two allegorical female figures. One represents Peace and holds a laurel wreath in her proper right hand and a fasces in her proper left. Peace wears long robes and a laurel wreath on her head. The other short side shows a female representing War, holding a shield in front of her, wearing a crown-shaped helmet and a dress with armor details. In her proper right hand she holds a sword.

The bronze base was installed on April 18, 1898, the sculpture was installed on Jan 23, 1901 and dedicated on April 9, 1901. It was paid for by the government and Society for the Army of the Tennessee and cost $65,000. It was estimated that the bronze base would take one year to cast, but sculptor Franklin Simmons paid extra to have the foundry work around the clock to have it made, which took only 31⁄2 months.

The bronze base, which features a depiction of Vice President Chester A. Arthur, is historically inaccurate. When Logan was senator, Arthur was not Vice President, however, Mrs. Logan wished to have contemporary famous men shown in the panels during Logan's death, hence the appearance of Arthur.

Cranford Paving Company provided the foundation construction and placed the granite for the base. Simmons was unhappy with the first base and requested a new base be replaced in September 1897. The sculpture arrived from Rome in December 1901 and was stored at the Brooklyn pier for a month. The bronze was too large to be transported by train to Washington. Eventually the piece was placed onto a two-masted schooner and arrived in Washington on January 16, 1902.

Good day, sunshine.

I have a tea party, Lord Sir Saint Professor Beckham has come with his mighty sword, also the Purple Krays, I get them special fairy cakes and Tizer.

Suddenly there is a rumour of crime in the north forty, precinct 28b, downtown Gravesend.

"I shall stride forth !" says Beckham, "My sword, whom I do not name, is avid for blood and entrails !"

"Me too ! Also him !" say both Krays, identically, as they do.

And they are gone ! Life is full of drama.

As it happens, it was a False Alarm, just one George who didn't like the other George's tie, and these things can get out of hand.

The Krays wanted to tighten each George's tie so that they could not speak, and so prevent them insulting each other beyond The Point Of No Return. But this was not necessary.

Walk Tall !
