I hiked up to the famous Old Man Storr the same day I arrived at Skye. I photographed the sunset, but it left the giant rocks in the shaddows. When the sun was gone I struggled for an hour getting my new tent set up. The image posted here, is the view I woke up too. Unfortunately, no clouds, but I wasn't complaining. After an hour of shooting, I had a lovely breakfast with bacon, Scottish roles, and coffee just admiring the view.
Something a bit different. I decided to climb The Old Man of Storr only to find that I couldn't see a thing, only shapes but thought I would take a photo anyway.

Old Man Storr ... la compo incontournable !
The Storr is a rocky hill on the Trotternish peninsula of the Isle of Skye. The hill presents a steep rocky eastern face overlooking the Sound of Raasay, contrasting with gentler grassy slopes to the west. The area in front of the cliffs of the Storr is known as the Sanctuary. This has a number of weirdly shaped rock pinnacles, the remnants of ancient landslips.
Beginning of the long climb up to the Old Man of Storr, Isle of Skye, Scotland. Panorama of 7 stitched shots.
This shot is taken from the path to the Old Man Of Storr on Skye looking over the Isle Of Raasay with the mainland in the distance. I was up early to catch the sunrise over the Old Man but it never came to much, and after hanging around for an hour for some good light and not getting any I decided to head off to my next location. However, on the way down the sun decided to peak out from below the cloud cover and gave me some nice rays to catch. I thought about heading back up quickly to get the Old Man in the foreground but the good light never lasted long and disappeared just after I caught this image.
Sunrise at the Old Man of Storr on Skye, after a long walk up in the pitch black we were rewarded with some incredible light!
Looking North-west from the Storr out towards the other Hebridean islands, I love the islands so much I would move there in a heartbeat. Bronica 4 x6.5 70mm lens fuji velvia 120 roll film
Initially, we planed to visit "The Quiraing" on our first early morning session (alarm was set on 3:00 am), but on our way to the north of skye, we spontaneously decided to give the "Old Man of Storr" a shot and hiked up the one hour long walk.
First, because the moon was shining bright and helped our eyes, and second (as it turned out), because it was the only clear morning of our trip.
Every other morning these iconic rocks were hidden in fog when we passed it. And that sadly happend quite often.

Another workshop photo had us in the right place to capture the sun bursting through the Old Man of Storr rock formation. Lots of re-positioning as we each sought to get the best angle.

Those pinnacles form the so called "the Sanctuary" and are the classic landmarks of the Trotternish peninsula, north Skye.
A 5 image panorama. The original file is over 16,000 pixels!
A climb up in the dark with a head torch was required to be in position overlooking the Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye, for the sunrise. Luckily the clocks had changed that week so sunrise was at 6.50am. This was good as it was around an hours climb to get here, so the 4.30am rise was manageable (just).
On the monday whilst on the Isle of Skye it snowed on and off most of the day, along with hale storms, rain, wind and sun. Yes, we got all weathers in one day, as we arrived near the Old Man of Storr we couldn't see it, it was in cloud as the snow fell, then as it stopped a patch of blue appeared and so did the old man, only briefly but that's all it took to get this moody shot.
